She does good work, but i wonder if she can mold the story into something presentable, GOW isnt exactly a gold mine.

Bah, Didn't sit well the Clone wars Tv show? Fuck the TV show, Imperial Commando would of been awesome.

Well. I am sure his name means something to some people...although, at least it means hes accomplished. Always good to see proper writers doing stuff in games!
Honey, Karen is a woman's name. Please don't be so quick to assume the masculine, especially considering that Karen's gender was explained to you.

Anyway, let's hope she can really punch up that storyline and make me give a shit. I've already stated what I think about Gears of War 2's story here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.130913-Gears-of-War-2-an-MSE-review]. The sad thing about the narrative of this series is that it has so much unused potential.

(Also, expect a review of Avatar from me when it comes out on DVD and I can reanalyze it).

I actually called it the second I saw the title (squad based game, squad based games turned into books). It's great that Lucas' stupid mistakes about canceling Imperial Commando (after those great Republic Commando books, based on the one of the few good Star Wars games, one of which is KOTOR) won't end her career. I'm starting to have more hope for Gears 3 now.

Though, if any Star Wars author were to write for a video game, I would have bought said game in a heartbeat (provided the game is still fun) if the author was Timothy Zahn.
I agree with you whole-heartedly.

I hear Halo 4 is going to be written by Dan Abnett.
Yeeeeeaaaahhh... no.

1) Abnett is busy writing a movie script and a Horus Heresy novel.
2) Abnett wouldn't write for Halo, seeing how he already writes about space marines far superior to Spartans. :p

Which movie is he writing? The next Wallace and Grommet movie (crosses fingers)

This is gonna be good, then. Karen Traviss wrote the Gears of War novel(s) (not sure if there's more than one) and she wrote some good Star Wars books. I especially like her work in shaping Mandalorian culture in the Star Wars mythos. I'm pretty sure she even wrote their language.

Hello-oooo...? It's Dan Abnett. What else is it going to be besides something W40k-related? (And thank God for that.) He's the main writer for the upcoming CGI-animated Ultramarines movie.

Heh. Though I have to say - a Wallace and Gromit movie written by Abnett... that sounds like a whole new kind of entertainment. ^^

Good grief. If I cared about the Gears universe I might care. She's an appallingly bad writer who makes my head hurt.

It wasn't a direct link to Zahn's Elomin. It came from the Eol Sha from Jedi Academy and for reasons I forget I put min at the end. I can't remember fully. But Zahn actually made me want to get into writing. He did something no one else had done beside Kevin J. Anderson and create a back history itself that could be expanded on, Thrawn, the Chiss, Outbound Flight etc.

Hah! Now that's something I never would have guessed. Not exactly a complete polar opposite to his usual stuff, but close. How curious. ^^

Hmm...I've read every Star Wars Novels and with only a few really bad exceptions, hers are the worst in my opinion. I struggle through each one (I know, I know...why read them then?...because I've read all the others...I can't stop now. I'm a MMO guy...I consider them grind books!)

My biggest concern is that she will actually try to make a story where there isn't one. This is Gears of War...I don't think anybody really plays it for a compelling story line. It's has decent gameplay...big monsters...and a gun with a chainsaw.

With all the weird things she did to clone troopers, I'm nervous she is going to try and give these characters more depth than they really need. Just get me from Point A to Point B with fun gameplay and kill that one rookie in an interesting way again. :p

I am so happy at this news, she's my favorite author! She adds new points of view to tradition situations, such as clone POVs instead of Jedi

Her Gears books were pretty good, and Gears never had an incredibly terrible story, just average. They just could never present the story well... like at all. Hopefully she could do better.

The Locust Queen was one of the marines...mother? I can't make a joke about this because I don't know about Gears of War.
