She hates jedi?
"Hate" is putting it nicely...
If she hates jedi that much, I may just have to marry her.
You do that, provided she hasn't already married any of her Marty Sue protagonists yet (or Boba Fett....)

Jokes aside, my biggest problem with KT is the one which recieves the most attention in Star Wars circles: her inability to present two points of view on certain subjects. In all (or nearly all) of her SW novels, she pretty much only has her characters exprese a single point-of-view, with any characters who differ from this making appearences only for the sake of being told just how wrong they are.

Now, I've never read any of KT's Gears novels, so I wouldn't know whether this trait carries over. My opinion of her being the writer for this game, however, has made me rethink looking into Gears 3 (which would be the first Gears game to ever get my interest).

People, lets please not start a flame war regarding Traviss's SW novels. Anyone here who has been to TheForce.Net knows that these always end very badly.

Despite her views on the jedi, Traviss does a good job of giving characters very tight personalization. That is her main strength. She gives each of her characters a unique outlook, and even subverts it when her more impressionable characters start following other characters outlooks.

The best this could give us is actually making the COG and the GEARS people we can relate with. Because, in the first two games, it was basically Texas's way of negotiating with bugs.

I don't know if acclaimed is really the right word for Karen Traviss... feared and loathed maybe... especially by the not so Boba Fettishists...

Gears of War 3 could be written by Jesus himself, I still don't intend to buy the game.

The books she does are actually really good. I look forward to single player :)

spoiler, you kill things with an impossible gun/chainsaw hybrid and constantly yell inaudible words at your teammate. also that guy in the mask dies yet again.

I really dont understand why people like Gears of War, I mean take the main characters for instance. when your bicep is bigger than your head you know you have problems.

also, little know fact, having that many muscles would actually make you a lot more cumbersome... oh wait, I guess thats a good depiction of how the controls feel.
I think I may of cracked why people enjoy Gears of War. I think it might be because some people enjoy this weird emotion called fun.

I once heard a rumour that playing through a games co-op with a friend where you actually need each other can be fun. However I doubt you'll of heard of this weird thing called "fun" as like me you're clearly someone who enjoys not enjoying anything. Ever. Someone who also enjoy pumping out the same thing about how games the days are "too gritty" or something but never really gave them a chance as you'd made up your mind that you'd hate it and it would take nothing less than Jesus descending from high heaven and telling you that God him self thought this game was the tits to convince you this game was half decent. As their's no way your preconceptions could be wrong.

I hear Halo 4 is going to be written by Dan Abnett.
Yeeeeeaaaahhh... no.

1) Abnett is busy writing a movie script and a Horus Heresy novel.
2) Abnett wouldn't write for Halo, seeing how he already writes about space marines far superior to Spartans. :p
You also forgot the final Inquisitor trilogy...Either way, Dan Abnett makes me nerdgasm. |: (And if he was writing Halo 4, even if there won't be one...Well...I would explode.)

Oh dear. This isn't going to turn out well at all.

I say this not out of genuine hatred of Traviss, but her ego problems [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SmallNameBigEgo] (scroll down to Literature), bad relations with fans [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DearNegativeReader], and the many, many assorted controversies involving her Star Wars novels [http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=112980] somewhat undermine my faith in her doing a good job with this new task.

Who knows, maybe I'm wrong. I hope I am, as a matter of fact; GoW 3's story has a lot of potential, and I don't wish it to go to waste just to prove Ms. Traviss's more vitriolic haters right.

Given that in Aspho Fields she basically reused all the things that the Star Wars fandom derided her for, except swapped out Mandalorians for Gears (but still apparently said they were some race of special forces supermen), I'm not hopeful. Though they basically did ignore everything she wrote and contradicted almost all of it in Gears 2.

Until now, Gears was actually doing quite well in it's story, it's muted and told by the environments and details, not by in your face twenty minute cutscenes (seriously, watch Dom in Ashes to Ashes and tell me that his story arc through the series hasn't resulted in actual character development).

Now Travissty is involved, it's fucked unless they keep a tight leash on her.

Well thank god she is getting work after the way Lucas treated her.

Hint, when you personally hire someone to flesh out stories/ideas/people, it might be a good idea to ACTUALLY USE THEIR MATERIAL. Otherwise, why hire them?
I had thought it was because she trampled all over the established material? That's what I've heard, anyways. Also read she never actually read previous novels in the Star Wars EU; just told the publisher what she wanted to do, and they did the looking up for her.

And this is a good thing? Now the Gears of War writing -- not exactly that great to begin with -- is going to be brought on par with the Expanded Universe tripe.

I've never seen any news on him making the third Inquisitor series, though the introduction to the Ravenor Omnibus swears it will come to pass (Eisenhorn vs. Ravenor will not, I'm afraid, be the subject).

EDIT: According to Black Library's website, two other authors will be working on the next few Gaunt's Ghost series. Crap.
