Good. Gears of War's story hasn't been it's strongest feature... ah who am I kidding. It's been the laughing stock of the gaming community for a while. But hopeful this will be the best story of the franchise.
It'll be nice to have some proper narrative driving the story this time around. Please, make the focus on the important stuff, not Dom's wife.

Karen Traviss is one of the worst things ever to happen to the Star Wars Expanded Universe. I say this as a massive fa of the EU, she is the sole reason, and I do mean the sole reaosn, that I threw away everything after Destiny's Way, and will no longer be buying Star Wars EU content which has been influenced by Travissty.

It's pretty much summed up entirely by the recent Penny Arcade comic on the matter. Gabe talks about them having to go through canon with an axe to fix the changes made to the Mandalorians. Well basically, Ms Traviss is the reason those changes had to be made.

Rant over. I was on the fence about GoW III, and now I am firmly in the against camp.

What else is it going to be besides something W40k-related? (And thank God for that.) He's the main writer for the upcoming CGI-animated Ultramarines movie.

Heh. Though I have to say - a Wallace and Gromit movie written by Abnett... that sounds like a whole new kind of entertainment. ^^
He and Andy Lanning wrote Legion of Superheroes for DC for awhile... that wasn't really 40k Related.

OT: I've never read any of Karen Traviss's books, but her highly militaristic style should work perfectly with Gears, especially since she also wrote the Gears novelizations.

Still, Gears of War 2 had one of the DUMBEST stories and some of the WORST characters I've ever seen, trumped only by the abysmal plot and characters in Killzone 2.

This news actually has actually made me look forward to Gears 3. Ill be honest and can say I havnt read any of the star wars books apart from the Republic Commando series she did after being recommended to me from a freind who as read every single one of the star wars books. Im currently reading through the final installment (501st) book and man she is good. I might even have to pick up the Aspo Fields book she wrote, its been gathering dust since Christmas

Here's a link to Traviss' latest blog post about how seriously she's taking it. For all the nay-sayers, just take a look.

Dan Abnett, as of now, is writing a Warhammer 40K book (Prospero Burns), his own book (not W40K, his own universe thingy), a W40K movie (probably done writing it, but he'll be needed for fixes I'm sure), and I've read that he's almost constantly helping someone with comic books.

I just want the bastard to write another Gaunt's Ghost novel, or another Titan book.

My friend assures me Karen Traviss is a good writer (if she broke canon or not, he can't say). Her Gears of War books... I liked the stories, but I wasn't sold on her style. Eh.

And though Zahn is a good writer, I'm not sure he deserves the 'ultimate writer' status people give him. I personally think Abnetts a load better, but most people are not fond of Warhammer, so... whatever and what not.

Well, i guees it's going to be and entire game about how awesome the stranded are, and she's going to kill off a major characters love interest, so bye bye anya, and attempt to rewrite canon to fit her view of how it should go, because after having read so much expanded universe stuff she just goes and wrecks everything up,without consulting any of the other authors about it, Ahem, sorry, i just really don't like what she did to mara jade.

Hah! Now that's something I never would have guessed. Not exactly a complete polar opposite to his usual stuff, but close. How curious. ^^
I'd trade my signed copy of Legion for a signed copy of that.

I have a signed copy of Graham McNiell's "A Thousand Sons" as well.
You do realize you're asking for it, right? :p

Just finished reading my copy of it, not bad. In my eyes McNeill is second only to Abnett when it comes to W40k literature.
Nick Kyme and James Swallow are also shaping up... Can't stand Ben Counter, though.

Well, honestly I don't think Dom got enough attention the first game, so they tried to counter it by giving him too much attention the second time around. Honestly, it was kind of sad that he couldn't find his wife, but the he got a bit whiny towards the part where you actually find her.

Maybe this will be a good thing. I would really love for Gears to have a better story. It looks like it might be pretty decent, judging by the trailer.

I haven't actually read it yet. I'm going to soon. I do agree that McNiell is just behind Abnett, but they're both great.

I got my signed books from a sci-fi stuff chain called Forbidden Planet. They regularly get authors to do book signing events, and then send a few copies out to their stores. They're usually the same price (or sometimes even less) than you'll get them in a regular bookstore. I originally bought a regular copy of Legion the day before I saw the signed one, and it was £1 less than what I'd got the other one for.

They some times put them on their website too. Here's a link for a signed copy of James Swallow's Black Tide. It's less than you'd get it in a shop.

I'm not GOW fanboy I'm not even fond of the game as a whole.
I just read that blog and it reads as self-gratification. What does she mean 'cut your teeth on a really big bugger'? If you want to start writing for the games industry (which is what I want to do and studied a BA and MA for) you just jump in to a multi-million pound franchise and hope you don't balls it up?
Frankly I find it sickening that she has the job coming from a different form of media background, well done if it works for her. But, if it turns out to fall into the same ravine of the planes, trains and automobile wreck which was Command of Conquer 4 I will rip it a new one for days.

Eh, getting your hands on signed copies of English novels isn't all that easy when you live in Germany. ^^° Still, I'll look into it. (Tomorrow. Now I have to force myself to go to bed so I won't miss my 10am lecture. -.-)
