I get called a woman all the time. At work customers will always say, "Excuse me, ma'am." when they haven't even gotten a good look at me. My coworkers joke with me saying that I sound like a woman on the phone. Heh Someone even did a little practical joke on me and took my name tag and added one letter to make it into a woman's name...I still need to get that fixed...Anyways, some of my close friends always tell me I'm like a sister to them......oh and I'm not gay.

I used to deliberately use masculine avatars and usernames on forums like this, just to weird people out when they found out I was female.

It's all in the face. The avatar, y'know. ;) If my username was something more neutral, I bet I'd get mistaken for a guy at least once.

It's the avatar. Happens to all of us. Crazy people thinking I'm a manta ray....

(clearly I'm a shark.)

It's the Avatar.

I don't really think that it's normal for a guy to have a picture of a girl as a face.
It kinda goes against the point for me.

People with femaleish avatars that do NOT focus on the boobies/vagina/booty/combo are automatically females.

Pro tip: Star control II avatars let everyone know you are male, old, have incredibly good taste.

When I was in grade 7 I had stupid long hair and a high pitched voice. Surprisingly, I was only ever once confused for a girl, and that was from behind.
Even if it's only the one time, it can be really painful.

Just because I have a Repo-man as my avatar doesn't mean I go around repossessing organs which the owners defaulted on for a mega medical corporation.
No, but it does make you awesome

yeah its your avatar that confuses people, but its not exclusive to you I think it happens to everyone(including me) that has an avatar that isn't the same gender as they are ATLEAST once

People often mistake me for a male, which I could probably find humor in if it hadn't been happening my entire life. I'll usually just correct the person and move on, as I can definitely understand why this particular misconception was made.

I haven't run into gender problems, internet or real life. Internet, I understand, not too girly features with me [small](except for maybe the emoticons... :p)[/small], but in real life, it's kind of confusing because I got some really long curly hair. No one ever called me a girl for it. Weird.

People always assume I'm a guy. Even those gender tests I took online think I'm a dude. Shit, I got the 3ed highest score on Spark.com's Bastard Test. It doesn't bother me anymore & I don't feel a need to correct them.
It's the chibi Gambit.
I'm pretty sure that cute chibis & hot Cajuns fall into girly teritory.

I don't actually look at people's avatars or even their NAMES most of the time. As such, I make no assumptions about one's gender unless they tell me what it is.

I get this more at uni than here.
Sometimes I look at someone and wonder, are they male or female?

At least here you can sneakily look at people's profiles.
I feel like sneaking into people profiles is the equivalent to lifting a person's skirt.

Surely, I jest.

OP: It's your avatar. People have a preconceived notation that avatars are meant to represent you.

Hell, I get confused as a girl ALL the time. (that's the games where no headsets are included. Otherwise it'd be wierd o_O)

They say I "write > sound like a female".

I don't know if that's just something the majority likes to imagine me as, but... *shrug*

Perhaps my humor, gamertags and the liking to purple hints them enough in order to jump to horny conclusions.

I always check their profile if I'm unsure, so luckily I have yet to get in any awkward conversations.. Yet being the operative word.
Same, but normally I find that beyond "her" and "him" I won't treat male and female members all that differently. Or I at least hope I don't.
I usually can't tell who is male or female so I don't really have a problem with treating people differently. You could all be mixed gender android assassins for all I know. If I have to use a gender pronoun I either guess if I'm feeling especially fat, or check their profile.
How did you know about my day jo- I mean I'm not an assassin in any way at all.
