Did it really end with ‘76 or are there still a surprising amount of defenders?

Well, there are some diehards in '76 who will point out that they fixed it, eventually. I haven't gone back myself (and I was pretty moderate on the original) but I've got friends that say its come up to more or less what you'd expect, and your mileage is gonna very on whether you thought Fallout itself was solid mechanically to begin with.

That said, if we cross compare with No Mans Sky as the "they fixed it" bar. '76 still took longer to get there, and has been (and still is to my knowledge) bloated with microtransactions that are overpriced even compared to free to play, including both cosmetic and gameplay bonuses, and a premium subscription system tossed in as well. Hello Games for whatever else you think of them, has released all their explansions and updates for free.

Neither of these two are gonna have an easy time selling a Day One (or DAy sixty) game again, but I have a lot more faith in ones commitment then the other.

Although Bethesdas holed in on Microsoft, so I probably don't even have the option (Playstation and my computer current certainly isn't gonna be handling AAA anything)

I have railed Hello Games continuously for the tremendous amounts of lies Sean Murray told before launch, and the terrible state the game launched in (and the fact that their Steam page used screenshots from the false "gameplay" trailers for years). However, none of that holds a candle to Bethesda's utterly clueless handling of Fallout 76, especially that $100/year subscription service whose perks didn't even function properly most of the time.

Just out of idle curiosity, other then the omission of multiplayer, what was the actual lie in No Mans Sky

Like straight up hardline factually untrue. Not a subjective thing like the looser implementation of the trade economy or whatever.

An hour long but it's really the only thing I got to explain any of it.

See the video posted above. It goes over everything and it's a lot. Like A LOT!

I got 13 minutes through that, and 12 of that was pre-amble and stupid nonsense irrelevant to what I asked.

And out of the gate, the first 3 examples have no context and 1 was factually wrong (there was trading in NMS at launch. It wasn't expansive, it didn't flesh out til later, but it was there).

(and by context I mean, realistically a render from a game 4 years before its release is obviously not representative of final or maybe any gameplay, along with stuff like "you can land on comets at the moment" from 2013 or whenever)

I'm not gonna leap to their defense and say what they launched was great by any means. It was mostly a walking simulator style game for intents and purposes. But that video and others I've seen just seem too buys trying to make memes and shit then line up any kind of actual information.

Here is a shortened version of the list, with most stand-out features the user believed were not included in the final game even though they were promised at one point or another:

  • Planetary physics
  • Ship classes with meaningful differentiation
  • Faction reputation with meaningful gameplay impact
  • Homogenous resource availability
  • Asteroid landings
  • Space station and fleet destruction
  • Large fleets
  • Traveling freighters
  • Large scale battles the player can join
  • In-atmosphere battles
  • NPCs outside trading posts and other docks
  • Ringed planets
  • Sand planets
  • Flying between stars (as opposed to warping via the Galactic interface)
  • Complex creature behaviour including environmental interaction
  • Rivers
  • Points of interest such as large structures and crashed freighters
  • Hacking locked doors
  • Radio chatter
  • Interaction with other players
This list is not the full list, however the full list was deleted off of reddit because a lot of the features that were promised are now in the game. But at launch there were addtional things missing like an actual "awesome" ending, multiple languages, and player jobs.

If Forza is a Microtransaction fill piece of shit, I'm going to give up Driving games forever.
Don't give up on them too much, if it happens. Just start going for the old-school style arcade racing games you can find on digital stores. There are quite a few that have physical releases, but a lot of them are on Switch. I am not quitting altogether, but I am not gonna bother with any of the AAA racing games, if they all do what GT7 did. Many times, the smaller budget racing game have that instant turn on the game, and play immediately, No fluff. No supped up, over-glorified, too cool for school tutorial. Just turn on the game and race now!

Yep this is the kind of quality you can expect from Blizzard going forward. Get used to it people.
I wonder, if Blizzard fails to make all the monies as they once did, will they also be sent to toil in the Call of Duty mines, becoming fully Activisionized, like Infinite Ward before them. And Treyarch. And Raven. And Sledgehammer. And High Moon. And Toys For Bob. And ...

Looks to me like Activision has finally gotten their wakeup call that the mainline CoD games still matter, because if they're shit, their money printer aka Warzone will be shit too. At least, shitter than it already is.

I have no words. Dunkey said everything
It was pretty shocking. If fighting games can basically have the same roster and gameplay every few years and still have sequels feel justified, a hero shooter like Overwatch should also be able to manage. Really looks like they just don't want to put in the effort.

Thirteen years after acquiring Eidos Interactive, Square Enix has divested itself of the development group, along with several key franchises including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, and Legacy of Kain. The new owner: Embracer Group, which is already the parent company of THQ Nordic, Gearbox, and Saber Interactive, with a total of 111 studios under its umbrella.

Despite the high profile of some of the Eidos Interactive franchises, its sale price is modest when compared to the eye-watering figures that Microsoft and Sony have recently spent on Activision Blizzard and Bungie respectively. The deal will see Embracer acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, and Square Enix Montréal for approximately $300 million US. The deal is expected to close between July and September this year.

Most recently, the Eidos studios have moved away from their original IPs. Eidos-Montréal handled Guardians of the Galaxy, while Crystal Dynamics was responsible for Marvel’s Avengers and is currently assisting Microsoft studio The Initiative with Perfect Dark (though it is also working on a new Tomb Raider).

Despite dropping its Western internal studios, Square Enix retains its publishing branch and ownership of several externally developed franchises, including Just Cause, Outriders, and Life is Strange.

In the press release announcing the news, Square Enix indicates that the sale “enables the launch of new businesses by moving forward with investments in fields including blockchain, AI, and the cloud.”
Well at least someone has managed to snatch those criminally neglected properties off the alcoholic gambling parent more interested in NFTs than making games now.
