Oh wow, another failed live service. Who saw this coming? /s

Nearly all major live-service games by SE has failed; Babylon's Fall, FF&: First Soldier, and now this. I wonder if that's why they're moving onto something new life NFT?

Because NFT games are TOTALLY gonna do better! /s

I'm surprised that they aren't giving people more warning, but maybe that's because nobody is playing so there is nobody to warn.
The remaining players are gonna be pissed.

All 3 of them.
I wonder how Random Black Gamer feels about this now. He was one of the few defenders of this game. I remember when Max_Dood tried to defend this game giving it a 7 out of 10, only to change his mind about nearly a month later. Steve still tried to defend it and say "it's fun", but he clearly was in pain trying to over defend it and make excuses on why he was still playing.

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAA!
I actually remember that article...

What happened to you Phil? Or was the Phil we (thought we) knew, ever real to begin with? I asked this, and I'm not even a big Microsoft fan. I did respect Phil Spencer, but that's becoming less and less day by day.

You guys remember when people were mad that Spider-Man was going to be Playstation only, and i said it wouldn't matter because by the time Spidey came out nobody would give a shit about the game?

@Chimpzy Hand me the phone please.

Maybe that'll send a message to the people making that suicide squad game.

Nah, they'll just keep doing it as if its a sure fire thing, nobody care about the *look at note* avenger, but suicide squad!

Hey let's be fair, it got Gotham Knights to pivot pretty hardcore. And while GK isn't a great game, it is certainly better than it would have been as a live service shitpile.

Good news I guess? They ruined the franchise so much by this point. I am not sure if it's salvagable, or if I can trust a new studio.
Or maybe is this a sign for Halo to be put to the rest?
It's kind of funny that when I picked up the Master Chief Collection and played the single-player campaign of 4, it was striking how underwhelming the gameplay and weapons felt (and I was never hugely into the series in the first place). Especially the weapons; the Forerunner weapons as a whole just felt like dull, weak rehashes of the other guns, and they sucked a lot of what little fun the game had to offer out of it. It's amusing that the studio which was formed specifically to make Halo games couldn't seem to figure out how.

2 little 2 late. I will give the game a shot on an unrealistic chance of specialists completely disappearing and being replaced with generic soldiers.
I wouldn't hold my breath. I think EA is still holding out for microtransactions.

And nothing of value was lost. Now will people stop buying into live-service frauds that can be rugpulled at basically a moment's notice?

Dammit, I checked and am now very disappointed it's not actually 3 people. Babylon's Fall however ...
On a vaguely related note, it turns out there are a number of people hanging out in the r/anthem subreddit. Like a lot more then I imagined there would be for a game that's pretty dead with no hopes of anyone ever updating it again and didn't do very well to begin with.

More surprise then anything else that there's that many people who are still hyped about it(I scrolled through a bit and there's a number of "Man, this game is AMAZING! Why did it get abandoned?" posts/threads). People like what they like but there's a lot of hopium/copium going around in there.

Now will people stop buying into live-service frauds that can be rugpulled at basically a moment's notice?
Haha....NO.

As mentioned in the recent escapist podcast, even casual gaming fans are starting to notice that lives services aren't good or that they only have time for one. Hell, even some non-gaming consumers are noticing this. The big problem is those at top still don't want to listen. They can't get out of their own and everyone else's way.

Interesting...

I recommend this article; the journalist that wrote it put a lot of effort and thought into it. The fact that the EU is mostly legislating in favor of consumer rights makes me supportive of the efforts.

EDIT: Should mention: this is an opinion piece.

They got Chinese investor money protecting them, worst case scenario is they sell the framework to Tencent and recoup the costs as the foundation of a mobile game

Good for them. Assuming the Chinese investors don't get sick and tired of the constant failures, fuck the AAA companies over by saying "We'll make our own with blackjack and hookers!", while pretending to act like they have "standards" like NetEase did with Activision. They can fuck off and I could not give two shits either way.
