You cant sell consoles if you don't have hot games coming out of it, it's just common sense. I wonder why they still don't understand this after like 10 years of a whole lot of nothing.
Because they're still stuck on Halo. Be over relied on it and Gears for so long, that Microsoft really doesn't know what to do with themselves anymore.

And while gaming pass was successful initially, did they not realize profit wasn't gonna be nearly as much as console or game sales?
I mean Microsoft is a small business man, they can't possibly understand the concept of selling stuff.

I think they actually thought that every xbox user would automatically pay for gamepass and it turns out that's not really the case.

Yeah that's always been there problem. Microsoft is the gaming equivalent of Al Buddy constantly telling stories about his one great football game in high school, except instead of Football it's Halo.

Advanced Wars just got remakes of the first two games. Punch Out Wii is the best franchises has ever been, and there's really not much you can approve upon, aside from having a new cast characters. Or having the next one play more like Super Punch Out and the original arcade. I would still buy it. ARMS is pretty much a spiritual successor to Punch Out. Kid Icarus needs a remaster and port on the Switch. I will never play the 3DS game. Fast RMX is the new F-Zero now. Or Redout I & II.
I'm not sure how a lot of that actually refutes what I said, but:

-You can make a reasonable claim that Advance Wars isn't dead by virtue of the remaster (not remake, remaster), but it really depends on what happens next? Do they remake Dual Strike and/or Days of Ruin? Do they make a new entry? Or is this a two and done? That Advance Wars got a re-release doesn't really say much by itself (Kid Icarus is in a similar hypothetical scenario of re-releases).

-A lot of those are spiritual successors, that doesn't change the spiritual predecessor being dead. If IP X is dead, and IP Y is the spiritual successor to IP X, even if Y does well, X is still dead.

It's definitely a remake. How much they changed and added, I don't know. I do know the originals used pixels and the remake uses 3D graphics (with 2D animation for the character portraits), therefore it's a remake.

Ask Nintendo that; not me. I will say that if this does well, maybe you get either remakes to the later sequels, or just plain new sequels. Fans won't complain either way.

Kid Icarus has always been a lukewarm franchise to Nintendo. The first NES game and GB port are just average and aged terribly several times over. While the 3DS reboot/remake is so much better, has the worlds most unintuitive control scheme, and something that should have been put on the Wii U first, and then ported to Switch. This a game begging for a Switch port.

I know. I was giving you options. If it makes you feel any better, the announcer in Fast RMX is the same guy from the F-Zero GX.

Microsoft was getting too big. Uk said stop it.
From what I heard Sony didn't kill this deal, but cloud gaming. Basically at this point Microsoft has major shares in cloud gaming, getting Activision would mean total domination, no future streaming service could ever rival them. UK regulators realize this, and stopped the deal.

Nothing - hence why I don't call it a remake.

We're clearly using different definitions of remake. My stance is:

*Re-release: The game is re-released as is
*Remaster: The game gets an overhaul in some regard (usually graphics), but is functionally the same
*Remake: A completely different game based on a pre-existing one (RE1-4 remakes are the best examples)

Successful by what metric?

Couldn't have been profit as they were basically giving it away for free to people who already subscribed to Xbox Live Gold.

Gamers were delighted though; OMG, for only 1$ a month I can play all big releases on launch! It's basically giving away games for free! Gamepass is so awesome!

There's lots of buzz if you're giving away free candy, sure. Someone's in the middle footing the bill though and they won't be forever.

Well too bad, I just looked it up, and it's considered a full on remake. A one-to-one remake.

Unleash your superior strategy skills and take on the baddies in this all-new spin on the beloved strategy series. This remake features two campaigns that cover the events of Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising!

The key differences between Re-Boot Camp and the original games are the new art style, re-recorded soundtrack, the use of 3D graphics, and the addition of online versus functionality.

Re-Boot Camp contains the full campaigns of Advance Wars and Black Hole Rising.

Plus, I wouldn't consider something like this a remaster, when it's no longer pixel graphics and everything is using polygons and hand drawn animation for the character portraits. Those are all completely new assets made. A remaster is usually something that's ported over and it's usually upresed for HD. Or if it is already in HD, then a game is either given better frame rate or slightly better visual fidelity, if the game is already good looking to begin with. If this was really a remaster, everything would still be pixels. I know the lines have been blurred between remasters and remakes (some are exactly one to one and others are completely new or different games), but this is clearly a full-on remake that is done one to one. The only difference is that the first two games are made as one package. Similar to Oneechanbara Origin. If it doesn't count your little category, too bad, it's a full-on regular remake of a pixel game using polygons instead. I know you at this point, and you have these weird stances that make no sense and are contradictory, so I'm not doing this back and forth. And don't even start with that agree to disagree nonsense either. You got a problem? I really don't care. Take your complaints to Nintendo, and they will send them to Don't Give a Damn Island.

The Microsoft-Activision story is good news.

I'd rather not have the video game industry turn into the TV/film industry, where a couple of huge companies own most of the IPs.
*sigh* Yes, in some way. I also don't want corporate consolidation.
But... the reasoning here seems silly and selective, and I worry that it will be overturned and MS is gonna end up looking like some kinda hero within the industry. Like a good thing for bad reason situation that in the long term could be very very bad.

Yeah I mean eventually something was going to stop Microsoft from just buying studios up. I think they planned to dominate the games industry by sheer buyout power, since clearly the current state of their division is in shambles. I'm glad the UK stopped it because i don't think it was going to be a good thing in the long run.

Only to the dumbass Microsoft fanatics and those that like to suck the genitals of corporate overlords. Most sensible people knows what's up, and Microsoft ain't exactly fooling anyone.

What the fuck? Already?

Am I the only one who thinks this is really quick from announcement to launch? Like it's a pleasant surprise for sure probably, but...I don't have a lot of faith in FromSoft when Miyazaki ain't around.
Odds are they had it in development in the background for a long time. This isn't one of the first cases of this, and at least the fans are getting something. Miyazaki can't save everything. Just like how Shinji Mikami can't be a part of every project he is on. There's a reason why he stepped down for Evil Within 2. From Software has got this.

Whut whut now? Neato. Unless the pc port sucks. Which it probably will. Cuz it's 2023 and also FromSoft.
