What the fuck? Already?

Am I the only one who thinks this is really quick from announcement to launch? Like it's a pleasant surprise for sure probably, but...I don't have a lot of faith in FromSoft when Miyazaki ain't around.
The game has been in development long before it was announced, there was already a lot of chatter about it something like 2 years ago.

I'm just happy to see gameplay, it seems very close to armored core 4/for answer, which did have Miyazaki involvement.

I was hoping they were going to announce a port of the whole franchise to PC at the same time, to get people who didn't play the previous version on board, but guess that won't happen.

Successful by what metric?

Couldn't have been profit as they were basically giving it away for free to people who already subscribed to Xbox Live Gold.

Gamers were delighted though; OMG, for only 1$ a month I can play all big releases on launch! It's basically giving away games for free! Gamepass is so awesome!

There's lots of buzz if you're giving away free candy, sure. Someone's in the middle footing the bill though and they won't be forever.
Success as in gaining many subscriber count, and many people continuing to pay the monthly fee. The $1 was for the trial month (which is no longer the option anymore) and everyone has to pay at least $10/mo. Which if you think about it, is still a sweet deal for consumers, in theory.

But yes, I'm willing to bet the execs were banking on subscriber counts to keep growing. But just like Netflix, they stopped making quality content themselves, and just say "look how many games we have!" to give the illusion that it is a great deal.

I still would argue it is a better deal than most other gaming subscription services, like prime gaming. Prime mostly offers in-game cosmetics or consumables for games I don't care about, and the free games they do have arent too impressive either

I'm probably gonna go for the deluxe version because I desperately need a constant stream of music, but were I independently wealthy, the $450 mech hanger bay would be really tempting. I could put my gunpla in there

Couple of year back they release a boxset of the full franchise soundtrack and I'm still kicking myself for not having found out in time.

Seems like the collecor edition can only be brought on their website trough, that means a lot of gouging...

Sonic fans are really unique.
Yes. And? I know Sonic's fan base has it's loud, annoying, or jackass fans, but that's just not unique to Sonic. A diverse fan base yes, but most of us know how to act appropriate. Now we've had some special cases of stupid, but I can think of a few worse than what it goes on in the Sonic fan base.

As for the audience: it makes sense why the reaction is so strong. I know I have my issues with the live action movies (the first one is just okay and while the second one is great, suffers from padding), but they struck a core and actually brought in new Sonic fans. Lots of new Sonic fans. I do look forward to the third movie. As long as they don't do that stupid wedding subplot or something like that again, with the human cast kept to a minimum (aside from maybe Sonic's parents), I'll be happy. They can't afford to do something like that again. Hopefully they can get Amy Rose and Rouge in there too.

Guilty as charged. ^_^
It's not even the fact that they really enjoy Sonic and are excited for more Sonic.

It's that Sonic games don't have a great track record for being very good outside a couple exceptions. So the idea that the fanbase is still so crazy about Sonic despite the lack of stellar quality is just wild to me.

I feel the same thing about sports fans of teams that never win anything.

As mentioned over on game article and video thread, Jedi Survivor launches with terrible performance on PC. Skill up is just one of many reviewers pointing out the messy launch. The console ports are doing fine.

It's sad to see this seems to becoming more common.

I know Sonic had 2 dork ages, but most of the games aren't even bad. It's just contrarian critics and those trying to sound smart by claiming certain Sonic games that are great we're never good in the first place or just average. While only some of it is true, most of it is either lying, down playing accomplishments, or joining in on the game critics ragging on Sonic because it's the popular thing to do. To me the only really bad Sonic games are Sonic 06, Boom and its first 3DS game, the storybook games, the night time stages of Sonic Unleashed, and Forces (I found it average with all the hype and marketing, I can't blame people for disliking it). The rest are either great, regular good, or just average, when talking about the main line games. The office where it gets a bit more tricky, but I'm not going through all that. Frontiers excellently and is a good game. It's got an issues, but it's good overall. Sonic is already in a new golden age. As long as Sega remembers to actually take times with their games first and don't rush them out the door, then it's fine. Still doesn't make up for their bull crap on the Sonic Origins collection, but that's a conversation for another time. I just recommend anyone getting that collection, just to wait until June and pick it up. It comes with all the Game Gear games.

That's kind of an understatement. 2023 has been a pretty terrible year so far in regards to pc port quality of AAA games.
Oh I know. Either the port quality is great but the game isn't (Like Dead Island 2 and Atomic Hearts) or the game is great but port quality isnt (Like this one or Dead Space remake).

Sometimes, the game fails on both ends.

Steam discussion page for JS and the subreddit is going absolutely bonkers right now. I'm seeing claims like 20 fps on a 10700k /4090/32Gb and 30-45 fps on a 3090 FE/5700x.

Yeah, I've read comments of people with 13900k/4090 beasts not able to maintain a stable 60 at 1440p in Jedi Survivor, and seeing vram usage balloon to an insane 16-18gb.

The Dark Side is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.
