However, generative AI thing does raise concerns for me; yeah they are promising it will be used for very surface-level tasks, but how do we know they won't rely on that more throughout the development?
That's like saying 'Don't worry, our plagiarism will only be surface level'.

Guess I shoulda seen it coming with Larian, being that they're in the gaming industry.

Came here just to comment on that new Divinity trailer, only to find out that my goodwill for them might have been just getting hoodwinked by clever corpo PR. Emphasis on "might have" though, I'll wait for a more extensive exposé than some posts on Bluesky before I make any big judgments.

Anyway, sheesh that trailer. Multiple people were commenting that they felt like adults needing adult supervision watching it, and I kinda agree. I was okay with the human sacrifice and deliberate gross-out stuff, but then the self-flagellation and seemingly ritualistic orgy showed up, and I started wondering what the hell I was watching. All that squelching and crunching was legit getting to me, and I consider myself to have a pretty strong stomach for that kind of thing. I don't know when was the last time that we saw a trailer this overtly graphic in this many respects, it was like something out of the messed up parts of Berserk.

As for Larian's claims about this being their biggest game yet... eh, I think we're well due for the industry as a whole to examine when a game is simply too big. Both BG3 and Divinity Original Sin 2 are absolutely massive games, and some of it did feel excessive and indulgent. I don't know how many of these 80-100 hour RPGs I really have it in me to finish anymore. Elden Ring I burned out on basically completely, I haven't really continued my new playthrough of Witcher 3 nor Divinity Original Sin 2. Sometimes leanness and restraint is a virtue. Dragon Age: Origins managed to feel like a massive game that told an epic, satisfying story with tons of content to explore, and I finished it in roughly 40 hours, plus like 10 for Awakening. Clair Obscur is one of the best RPGs of all time by now, and it took me only like 35 hours with pretty extensive exploration. I love it when I feel like I can truly lose myself in a game like that, but it's another thing entirely when I feel it taking over my entire life in order just to finish it. I enjoy a good steak dinner at a fine restaurant, but that doesn't mean I want to order 5 of those steaks at the same time.

Not that I liked Fortnite that much to begin with, but I never thought they would reach COD level of stupid crossovers. This feels like a new low
Does gen z even care about the Kardashians? I met plenty that don't or don't know who they are. So glad I will never play this game. The best celebrity crossover will always be Gorillaz. They actually got new people on board.

There's at least some positive news here! I wish them for the best.

Improved Controls
Adjusted inputs for attacking downed enemies. Previously, attempting a follow-up attack on a downed enemy often resulted in a grab. We have adjusted the sensitivity to ensure attacks on downed enemies are easier to execute.

Hint Message Updates
Updated the hint messages displayed when defeated in a boss battle.

Bug Fixes
Addressed several other minor bugs.
The update hit consoles too.

Swen responded:

I believe you when I see it, Swen. Although as always people on internet loves to cause drama after reading one word or sentence from articles.

You might also want to address the claims over at bluesky as well regarding the terrible hiring practices.

Well, I applaud their bravery. I think QnA might be flooded with AI usage questions. I just want to know where in Divinity universe does this game take place, how different the gameplay will be from DOS2 and BG3, and of course, when it's coming out

Thinking Epic is about to start giving a free game away a day till Christmas. Happened last year and got a game today. Rather than wait a week, another secret game on offer tomorrow.

People are so dumb. AI is a tool and that tool is going to be used whether you like it or not. Artists, developers, marketing teams, everyone is going to use it because it will make productions faster. And like most tools employees will have to learn to use it or they will get skilled out of their job market.

It's like people complaining that writers are no longer using typewriters and now using Microsoft word because there is a spelling and grammar check in the program.

"These fucking writers are too lazy to spell and getting a machine to correct their shit. Lazy assholes."

Less a tool, and more of a thing people are being forced on, because some execs believe in fucking magic and think AI will solve everyone's "problems" (the shit heads in charge). Forcing it on everyone and trying to replace anyone possible. You're just a coward making excuses and being a pawn of those fat cats system. Congratulations, you're playing yourself.

AI can have its uses, but it should be never used in these ways.

When something like this is more beneficial (using AI to find cancer early), than trying to replace everyone and their human jobs and humans for the sake of a bottom line.

Not to mention, it cost way more to run things by AI, than just having actual people, or having some people managed and unnecessarily "complex" AI "system(s)".

Thank God for AI disclaimers Steam put in place. Epic are being bitches about it, but fuck them. They and their store sucks. So I know which games to avoid.

So the cut bullshit.

It wont be good, people should not be excited for it.
Too bad, people are still excited or holding out on copium. Thank God I never cared for Elder Scrolls.
