Matt Booty isn't the boss. Asha Sharma is. And her former position was AI Executive at Microsoft. That does not bode well at all.

Speaking of AI:

So how do I pray to the machine gods for the AI market to crash sooner? Or is this something that they intended?
That's why I buy new products like Ps5's or whatever ASAP, because there have been to many ransom reasons why shit gets more expensive not cheaper. It used to be that adopting tech early came at a premium, but lately it feels like getting things early is the cheaper option.

Then again that might simply be the case of the software is advancing faster than the hardware can keep up.

Also, at least we didn't get this guy from the AI department

Imagine this idiot applying the same logic for Xbox. That's gonna be two parts of the company he'd be razing to the ground

Phil Spencer retired effectively by end of day Monday morning, plus his number 2 trainee quitting with him?

Naw that smells like he was fired in favor of the AI shill, and his bestie quitting in solidarity. Or Phil knew the brand was gonna become AI slop whether he liked it or not and is quitting before the shit fails.

Phil can still fuck off either way, and doesn't matter anymore at this point.

Doubtful she can change MS culture. Phil used gamers, and they responded by dropping Xbox in droves. The execs, boards, and investors can't see past the next quarter. No wonder MS stock is tanking, but I would rather have someone competent than someone who was too weak to stand up to an unimaginative board, investors, and execs. I also think the MBA degree should be axed in America; replace it with a finance degree or a marketing degree.

I think the bigger problem is that her prior position in Microsoft was AI Executive.

Xbox just needs to go the way of sega and just make games for other people's consoles already. Kind of a win-win situation at this stage. They sorta kinda are doing this half way as it stands (apparently Avowed just came out on ps5 when I was told it was an xbox exclusive or something). I dunno if you need an indian AI lady to figure this out but anyways I hope they do figure it out at some point.

Forza 6 is coming to Playstation at launch as well, and probably Fable soon after.

I think taking the SEGA route is the best option for them, but I don't have much confidence in that because they've bought a bunch of studios and ultimately have produced very little. Their biggest purchase was Bethesda and Starfield fucking sucks.

Another guy said it better than I would: Bluepoint desecrated art that they did not understand, thinking they were more talented than the original creators. Good riddance. While Shadow of the Colossus for the PS4 wasn't as artistically revisionist as Demon's Souls, I still would rather return to the PS2 version to marvel at what Team Ico was able to do with that hardware. Publishers remake as much as they do because they're too cowardly and clueless to make good original games. The remake culture is way more cynical than in other mediums.

So the last hope of a Bloodborne remake/remaster is now dead. Rip
Official statement for Herman Hulst:
Hello everyone,
I wanted to share an important update from the Studio Business.

As I mentioned in the December Town Hall, 2025 had some strong highlights within PlayStation Studios. Ghost of Yōtei launched to critical and commercial success, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach further showcased our commitment to narrative excellence, and Helldivers 2 and MLB The Show continue to drive on-going player engagement and revenue.

At the same time, we're operating in an increasingly challenging industry environment. Rising development costs, slowed industry growth, changing player behavior, and broader economic headwinds are making it harder to build games sustainably.
To navigate this reality, we need to continue adapting and evolving. We've taken a close look at our business to ensure we're delivering today while still well-positioned for the future. As a result, we will be closing Bluepoint Games in March.

This decision was not made lightly. Bluepoint is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. I want to thank everyone at Bluepoint for their creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality. Where possible, we will work to find opportunities for some impacted employees within our global network of studios.
While I know this is hard news to hear, I'm confident in the direction we're headed. Creativity, innovation, and building unforgettable experiences for players remain at the heart of PlayStation Studios. We have a robust roadmap for FY26, with much to look forward to in the months ahead.
Thank you for your hard work and continued support.

Best,
Hermen Hulst
CEO, Studio Business Group
So losing $400M w/ Concord but still developing more live-service games do no create " increasingly challenging industry environment", but studio that excels in single-player games do?

Actually, it probably makes sense for you greedy mofos who only cares for max profit.

Do you think they are going down this route because Xbox is no longer a competitor to them? Sony is the only game in town these days making games that are generally favorable.

Xbox doesnt have a Spiderman, or a Ratchet and Clank, or a Kratos, or any bearded dad games, no Bloodborne, no iconic RPGs. The only thing Xbox has is disappointment and canceled games.

Xbox putting Halo and Forza on Ps5 means that literally the only two things you come to Xbox for are now on Playstation.

Which means Playstation is free to go scummy because people dont have a rival console to go to when they chose not to support Sony anymore.

I'd argue that their current route was determined by Fortnite and its ilk's existence rather than Xbox' fumbling.

The allure of having a GaaS cashcow that the whole world is playing has proven a bit too big, especially in a time where children are more likely to get hooked on mobile phone slop, tiktok reels and YouTube Shorts rather than traditional games.

Nintendo is kinda in the villain phase now but is it me or are they the only of the big three not in complete collapse right now? Xbox has bee suffering for years now, and Sony keeps funding and canceling failing live services that seem to devour their studios whole.

It feel like all of the big studio are struggling because of the rise in development cost for big budget game, which makes things extra hard for two other reasons. You have the rise of chinese studios, who are able to crank out AAA level game on reasonable budget by simply... not paying their dev very well and having them work crazy hours, gameplay/technical wise their game are pretty much at the level of western game and they're toning down the chinese aspect in a lot of case to be more successful oversea.

On the other side, you have small indie studio who are making game that aren't quite as technically impressive as the big studio, but they do it on a fraction of the cost and either pull reasonable number or flat out do AAA sales numbers. They do that by either serving niche that big studio have forsaken or by being excellent in the gameplay department.

Big studio just refuse to give up their practice of super hig dev cost and so cannot afford to take any risk. So their only choice is to go all in on every project they do, and try to get the biggest things, so live service title that are blend so they don't alienate any part of the audience, anything else wouldn't be able to recoup dev cost.

Nintendo is able to survive because it has strong IP, just look at how pokemon game are... mid tier to be generous, but still pull insane sales number.
