Are you worried about the efficacy of the suit or are you just trying to be protective of Valve?
I mean Valve is no saint, but NGL I would've been a lot more supportive had she gone after the likes of EA or Acti-Blizz.
Sorry, I don't agree.
I believe it to be a duty of society to look out for its weaker members, offer help to parents and adults who are prone to falling for gambling mechanics. In an ideal world parents would be infallible and 100% on top of what their children play and adults would have the strength of character to reject the allure of gambling... but also there wouldn't be companies designing games to ensnare children and adults with gambling mechanics. Sadly we don't live in such an ideal world and I believe we as a society should make the effort to make up the difference.
Turst me, I get what you're saying, but what usually happens is policymakers using it as an excuse to enforce control; Look at what's happening at UK, or the recent policy changes to Discord.
As for society taking up the duty to protect weaker members, while in perfect world this sounds nice, in reality it turns into a cancel culture where people flock to a witch hunt someone w/o deeper fact-checking. (I'm looking at you, twitter and Tik Tok!).
A bit off-topic, but
Hogwarts Legacy is a good example of how crappy the cancel culture is; While it is true J.K Rowling has made terrible comments about trans people, the game even featured trans NPC to, and it is no way an offensive game. But no, some nutjobs made it their mission to attempt to cancel the game and anyone who is playing it.
My point is, it doesnt matter how good the intentions are; It is gonna get blown out of proportion, and misused at some point.
I guess it can be argued that these gaming companies can be really deceptive when it comes to "in-game spending" and therefore allude parents on what their kids have access to. But with rated M games, I think parents have some responsibility to check what their kids are playing.
The worst ones I feel are the non-rated M games that feature lootbox mechanics like FIFA and Genshin Impact. Because parents will probably feel safer with these game without understanding how their kids get legendary-tier items or characters.
