I would also say this year was a step-up from previous award shows; There were many more actual game announcements and showcases, and the speeches and skits were cut down to a minimum (except for the award speeches, those I feel can go on a bit longer).

There were some cringe moments, like TLOU2 winning best adaptation or that pvp shooter reveal at the end, but overall It was alright

When that thumbnail leaked I was kinda hoping that'd turn out to be Steve or otherwise some kind of we-have-Leon-at-home expy. Yeah, the boy band do only makes him look older, but Leon's just a haircut and a roundhouse kick at this point.

She's just into Leon if he's a boy band twink that bottoms for Krauser (RIP Jim Ward), I'm into him so long as he's got the OG RE4 personality. Which was only kinda there in the remake. Here he looks RE6 level of grim about the mouth, damp drizzly November in his soul.
Seems fine to me. While serious, he's not completely grim, and he's still more like his RE4R counterpart. Which makes it more consistent in this RE engine continuity now.

IDK, I had my "oh shit" moments with Divinity, two Tomb Raider games, two Star Wars games, Megaman, and TW: WH40k, none of which I saw coming
Mine were Megaman, Control 2 and Jonathan Blow having a new game.

I think it was pretty weak ending it on "here's another online shooter btw".
Tomb Raider, Mega Man, Control 2, and Stupid Never Dies were my oh shit moments!

And just like with every year, some people are butt hurt over winners.

There are WAY TOO many for me to cover, but starting with something smaller; No man's sky winning Best Ongoing game

* Okay, this person doesn't seem too butt hurt, just surprised

But it's nothing compared to people butthurt over E33 winning GOTY

* Okay, maybe KDC2 devs are just meme-ing here

Like a majority of social media, i'm going to continue ignoring all that. As for that one post going on about the white supremacist: fucke em. They didn't choose what got to be game in the year and they didn't add much to the sales. They're parasites that will latch onto anything and do the usual grift.

Silksong still should have won.

Then let it be your game of the year and not theirs. Max and Simmons called this out during the year, long before the awards even started. E33 was going to win game of the year in a lot of places, and not just at the VGAs. The golden joystick awards pretty much gave that game g o t y as well.

My goty is Shinobi: Art of Vengeance.

Thank you, but I already know about the collection. I just played fighting force recently on emulation. It really has not holed up well. I do prefer the japanese version. Metal Fist. Here's hoping they have that in the collection or a combination of its better features with lives, and an actual continue system.

My GOTY is probably Dispatch, because I think that's the only 2025 game I've actually played.

ETA: There are a couple of other ones after looking at a list of 2025 releases that I've played. Abiotic Factor and Rogue Prince of Persia. Dispatch is still my personal GOTY.

The new Capcom IP Pragmata has a demo out. Its pretty cool, its got over the shoulder shooting like the new Resident Evil games, but you have more movement at your disposal. I was worried about the hacking, but on a mouse and keyboard it felt pretty good to do and I ended up liking how it flowed into combat. Speaking of Combat, you have a starting pistol that has unlimited ammo, it is certainly a pew pew gun, the only other weapons I found were a netgun, very useful to keep things stationary, and a shockwave gun, its a shotgun and damn satisfying to use against hacked bots. The enemy destruction also feels really really good, some of the most satisfying robot destruction I've seen.

I'll play the demo on consoles when it becomes available.

Certainly worth checking out. They manage to make it feel really good on mouse and keyboard, probably better on controller.

I'm going to give No Man's Sky some credit here: 2025 saw some actually impressive improvements for the game (including a complete redux of the water physics), so I could see that playing a factor.

I still probably would've put Marvel Rivals ahead of it, though.

Really? Because it doesn't look like they did much besides give him wrinkles and a slight stubble, so I don't know where all that feedback went to.

And from up close... he just looks weird. Capcom has a history of not knowing how to age their aging Resi characters. This wouldn't be an issue if they made new characters, but they REALLY don't know how to do that either.
