Shine on you crazy German neo-socialists. With enough bubblewrap u may yet end all violent deaths
That gives me an idea, The German government can replace all pointy/gun shaped/video games with bubble wrap! instead of going around killing people, you can now pop bubblewrap! Thats waaay funner than Far Cry 2!

heh, My dad came back from europe and gave me an east german police shirt. I think I might hang it on my wall...

Germany may still be a bit over-anxious about keeping a lid on some of its less-admirable national instincts - starting two world wars less than a half-century apart will have that effect - but how far can a government go in regulating fantasy before it topples over into outright paranoia?

Correction: Germany only started World War 2. They got scapegoated for World War 1 by the allies, even though pretty much all of Europe had a hand in starting that one.
My thoughts exactly. Germany shouldn't be portrayed as the bad guys in WW1 just because we fought them.

THIS JUST IN:

New study finds that 98% of all crime in Germany is committed by individuals who drink beer on a regular basis. Lawmakers have announced a new plan to require 100% of domestically produced beer be exported and restrict imports of foreign beers to U.S. "macro-brews". "This new plan will ensure the complete abolition of all beer consumption and resultant crime within a month," claimed Chancellor Merkel.

Just wait. Pretty soon they'll ban knives and forks, while everyone is out working in the "voluntary" mines, listening to the Great Leader's speeches, then coming home to government brand grool. Großer Bruder passt Sie auf!

Things like paintball and video games can be outlets for violent people. Taking away these from them could be a MISTAKE.
It is a mistake. I don't know what I would do without a outlet for my violence. Actually I do know but its too obvious for me to say what.

I was thinking the same thing, the given reason for the start of WWI is the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria by a Bosnian-Serb nationalist, Gavrilo Princip which caused a cascade effect as several treaties came into effect forcing the hand of many nations.
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was merely the spark that caused the highly volatile international situation at that time to erupt. International tensions had ben growing for some time, largely as a result of the rivalries between various imperialist powers, and nations such as Germany and Italy who had no empires, yet wished to have the prestige that went with them. The nationalist policy of Weltpolitik in Germany helped to drive the entente cordiale between Britain and France into more of a military alliance because of the aggressive actions take by Germany in the 2 Moroccan crises, and Balkan nationalism resulted in the expansion of Serbia into a powerful, aggressive power, leading to Austrian paranoia, which explains their very aggressive actions towards Serbia after the murder of the Archduke: they acted as if they wanted war.

...sorry, I've just done a history exam on this subject.

They're thinking to small. Violent Video games/sports are only a part of the problem. They should stop ALL sports (because they also, can increase agression), and also stop violent movies (even disney can be damaging). There also shouldn't be any scores in school tests, because people may be angry when they do badly and that could promote violence. The internet is just as dangerous, for many reasons, one of which being that they may get bad ideas from "backward" countries like the US, so internet censorship would be a good idea also, blocking all non-german websites. To enforce this, there should be home security cameras so that police can watch the citizens, otherwise, who knows what they'll do in their homes?!

But, if they REALLY want to stop violence they should introduce a thought police, that way, when someone thinks of doing something wrong, police can stop them.

Funny to see how many people still won't make a distinction between the German people and the German government... guess it's just more comfortable to refer to us as 'the Germans'. Especially when we're about to restrict or ban something. I can almost see the sneer.
Looks like old wounds really don't heal.

They did NOT start two World Wars! If you want to get technical about it, they didn't start any. Hitler was only a partial cause of WWII and Japan was the other. And he probably wouldn't have been so pissed if they hadn't scapegoated Germany for WWI to being with!

You're not exactly special in that regard. My parents lived in Germany for awhile before I was born and later told me similar things about the way Germans talked about "the Americans". I've seen comments from people from many different countries talking about "the Germans", "the Aussies", "the Swedes", "the Japanese"- you name it. The distinction between the government and the people is rarely made- don't take it personally.

It upsets me to have spent four years of my life in the US military all for the sake of a bunch of little bastards who don't know a good thing when they have it.
