Personally I am now just counting down the days until someone attempts to marry their AI creation... A professionaly photographer would be called in to take photo's on the DS of the budding Groom next to his loving newly-wed wife...

Sickening... I bet it would be that insane woman who 'married' the Eifel Tower!?

Now, what people like to do in their personal lives is none of my business. I may think it's weird as hell, but if people would rather/are desperate enough to get their love from a virtual girlfriend, more power to them.

But holy crap, that commercial was hilariously strange. Do...do people do that in Japan? Sit around on couches showing off their waifus to each other? I mean, at least they're being nice and inclusive about it by including a lesbian in the group, but...very odd behavior.

Like I said:

fake e-mail from a virtual girlfriend is better than no e-mail, ever.
I would say it's worse, because that would mean you're so alone that 1s and 0s are pitying you.
For some people, that is a reality.

That sounds pretty cool, really. If it were a game I'd be focusing on for a while, that'd be a really immersive featu--

New LovePlus, sequel to 2009's rather depressingly-popular girlfriend-simulator LovePlus
...oh, right, we're not allowed to say anything positive about dating sims. Never mind.

Um...wow, that sounds really dumb. Ha ha, Japan must be full of loveless losers who only get their rocks off to virtual women, ha ha. How pathe-

Okay, I can't even finish that stupid sentiment.

YAY let's mock another countries culture out of ignorance!
Though I don't agree with the mocking another culture, there is a serious issue here. Isn't Japan the country where there are major worries about the birth rate. Not saying there is a causal link here, but you do wonder....

Wonder? That's like saying America has too much violence so all those FPS games being released makes me wonder if that's the cause.

I am utterly speachless... It's exactly how I imagined it... And I am 3 years out of date...

Is it too late to say: Stop this planet, I want to get off?

Some people in the world really do worry me! :/

(I understand it is a condition though, and that falling in love with inanimate objects is something that some people cannot help, and as a disclaimer, I am completely writing in jest... its strange how the human mind works at times!)

Unfortunately, the fact is America's violent crime rates have been dropping since 1993, the year Doom came out, to a current record low. So not really something I wonder about, as it is not actually a real problem. Unlike the issue for Japan. But good try.

A quick wikipedia check shows that Japan's birth rate decrease started mid way through the 1960. I wonder what cultural art form became popular in Japan in the mid 1960's... I wonder...

And no I don't seriously think Manga is responsible for the decrease in the birth rate. Else it would not be an issue for most of the western world, though Japan has it the worst. I'm just having some fun.

Sorry where I grew up violence is just expanding in the inner cities of Boston MA, so I didn't look at any statistics when I thought about violence in America, I really just didn't get the generalization you were making.

As an American I'm interested, might actually be worth the $4 a month. Just need a 3Ds, the game, and then I can start the service.

I think that has a lot more to do with a country where owning a home big enough to raise a family is extremely expensive.
Japan already has one of the highest population densities in the world so hardly a huge issue if their birth rate is dropping.

To concede that games or any media should not be available due to it's effect on the fringe of society is and always has been a terrible argument.

I'm not quite sure how to respond as I don't quite understand what you are getting at. Is it underhand now to use statistics and facts to backup your point of view? Also I don't get where I was generalizing, you did say that America (taken to mean as a whole) has too much violence right?

There is always going to be differences if you drill down into local area's. I'm sure there is a town/towns in Japan where birth rate has been increasing and they would say there is no issue to them, but that does not mean that on a national level it is not decreasing. In a similar way to your perception of violence in your local area being different to that at a national level. More peoples perception of violence is being circumvented by the media, who give the impression it is going up rather than down, by reporting on it all the time. It is the wrong perception, it was not lower in the past, it just was not reported about as much.
