From Wikipedia : "The bite from an Eastern tarantula is not fatal to a human, but can cause up to six hours of vomiting. The venom can cause death to a dog or cat within thirty minutes"

That alone justifies the act of stamping on these things with very large golf shoes. If something came near my dogs with the intent to kill i would plunge my thumbs into its eye sockets and pull its tongue out through its asshole.....(Wait do spiders have tongues?......Or assholes??!)
I think they have assholes, but web comes from it.

But God damn, I seriously hate spiders. Even more now.

I used to think Australia has it good. But then I've remembered "The Last Continent" by T. Pratchett.

Harmless animals of XXXX: "Some sheep."
Is that why Yahtzee lives there? Tee Hee Hee...

Omg, I had not heard of this. I am so not going to be able to sleep tonight, and I am getting a shotgun in the morning!
Also for all you talking about the dangers of Australia, here you go.

There isn't a gun in the world big enough to make me feel comfortable with being within a mile of one of those motherfuckers.

Needless to say, I am never going to Australia after seeing that image.
This pretty much is what I would say. I have enough trouble seein a spider smaller then a quarter, one that size would make my pants brown.

God I love Australians, but I'm eternally glad I live on exactly the opposite side of the planet to your wildlife. Those are some crazy lethal spiders you got there!

The thing is, when I say, "Don't let it touch me," people assume I'm talking about spiders in particular.
Seriously, don't touch me, or I might reflexively punch you in the face.

As scary and hardcore as these spiders are, nothing beats the Sydney Funnelweb spider, for being the only animal in the world who genuinely wants to kill you and will cheerfully chase you down even when you don't invade its territory.
...Just so you know, because you said that, I will probably never, ever, EVER, EVER be visiting Australia. For any reason.

EVER.

Technically, Camel Spiders aren't spiders. They're a different type of arachnid (solifugae). They're also not venomous or particularly aggressive unless directly threatened. Most of the reaction comes from how ugly they are.

Sydney Funnelwebs are the spider you don't want to meet, because they're the bogan of the spider world, aggressive, especially when searching for a mate (which is when most encounters happen), and frequently found near the homes of decent people (they like water, so swimming pools are a favourite).

And for some reason, like bogans, they think that normal people are interested in their (munter) women, so they do actually view humans as threats to their mating.

And now, some more things for arachnophobes not to click on.

(Goliath Bird Eating Spider, one of the largest in the world)

It's one of the main reasons I don't intend to go to Australia. That kind of shit I can't handle. Put me in a ring against two trained Kangaroos instead of one large spider any day.

Damn you traditional media! How dare you focus on swine flu instead of the real issue of giant spiders!!!

A similar situation exists in Tasmania (I think) where residents of a town are terrorised by large, extremely resilient ants that can kill if you have an allergy to their venom, an allergy which is very common.

Come to Australia!
We have the greatest wildlife in the world!
Come to Australia! You might accidentally get killed!

As scary and hardcore as these spiders are, nothing beats the Sydney Funnelweb spider, for being the only animal in the world who genuinely wants to kill you and will cheerfully chase you down even when you don't invade its territory.
I just felt a small prick in my knee and I jumped. DAMNIT It was just my headphones hanging from my desk drawer, thanks for that. Really. :<

Hm...I'm a massive arachnophobe, but the picture at the beginning didn't bother me at all. Now, as for the spoilered pictures a few posts above mine...
