I still don't know how you guys find this stuff before me.

I had a tarantula in my house once; the gigantic, yet harmless kind. However, Queensland is renowned for dangerous (mostly feral) animals, so when they're running from these things I would advise them to watch out for cane toads.

Oh, and you're all pussies.

I live right next to a nest of these, one of the top three most venomous (and deadly) animals in the world.

And they look damn scary, when they do what they're doing in that picture it means that they're going to jump on you.

I live in Australia and this is the first I have heard of this.
Damn you traditional media! How dare you focus on swine flu instead of the real issue of giant spiders!!!

A similar situation exists in Tasmania (I think) where residents of a town are terrorised by large, extremely resilient ants that can kill if you have an allergy to their venom, an allergy which is very common.

Come to Australia!
We have the greatest wildlife in the world!
Come to Australia! You might accidentally get killed!

As scary and hardcore as these spiders are, nothing beats the Sydney Funnelweb spider, for being the only animal in the world who genuinely wants to kill you and will cheerfully chase you down even when you don't invade its territory.
I just felt a small prick in my knee and I jumped. DAMNIT It was just my headphones hanging from my desk drawer, thanks for that. Really. :<
Oh don't worry, after reading this story I started hysterically kicking at my feet, and hyperventilating when a loose thread from my skirt brushed them. It's a universal thing!

...Just so you know, because you said that, I will probably never, ever, EVER, EVER be visiting Australia. For any reason.

EVER.
They only live in Sydney! Just stay clear of rural areas, and you are mostly safe. Except for the white tailed spiders I guess. And all our snakes...

Man, I love my country. WHY IS IT TRYING TO GRIEF ME? ;___;

God I love my country- no other place on earth has a natural tourist deterrent like ours :)

Also, I seriously doubt the movie Arachophobia truly scared anyone in Australia or New Zealand
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delena_cancerides <--- i grew up surrounded by these friendly little fellers :D

The one thing I love about Britain... You can count the dangerous animals on one hand.
Yep; Welsh, Scottish, British... and foxes.

That's four.
Amy Winehouses nose. Thats 5. Things like a black hole, with what she put in there.
LOL I guess it is a viscious animal in it's own way!

Wow it's legs can get really long. Awesome.

Everything on Australia evolved to be an asshole. Every time I hear about Australian wildlife it's because they are doing something dangerous.

Still, I don't think these massive spiders will be able to thrive in an urban environment.

You could probably be fine if you stay near the beaches. But then there's the Stonefish. And the sharks. And the Blue-Ringed Octopus, the Cone Snail, Bluebottles, race wars, submerged rocks....

You know what, maybe you should stay out of the water.
Don't forget box jellies. The venom from them can kill a human with incredible ease.

And all they have to do is brush up against you.

Goddamn Australia, attempting murder on every front.

I live in a very dangerous part of America and it's nothing compared to Australia. All we have to worry about is alligators, bull sharks, rattlesnakes, coral snakes, water moccasins, black widows, brown recluses, barracudas, jellyfish, tiger sharks, and the flesh eating virus.

Edit: And every disease mosquito's carry, lousy swamp >.>

Jesus I'd hate to live there. I'm extremely scared of spiders. I'm someone who flips out even to the tiny ones that you can barely see.
