I just hope that this isn't an april fools joke... because if it works well once they're done with it, there's a chance they'll do something similar in other places :D

Yea they only provide free email, free internet search engines, pay for youtube, free web browser, google earth, android phones, and work to protect chinese activists from hackers.

Good assessment of their tyranny.
Yeah, they only want to side with Verizon in an effort to eliminate network neutrality [http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2010/08/google-verizon-netneutrality].

Read up and shut up.
Yea certainly sounds like they want all net neutrality gone. Ignore all the stuff about making ISPs say what they're blocking... all the stuff about how people carrying out lawful activity shouldn't have their services impacted...

Really the only wrong with it was exclusion of wireless networks, but really, a proposal is a proposal - did it go through? Have you heard anything about it since last August? I don't give two shits about cell phones. Up here in Canada we WISH we could have this proposal, we're getting gouged and throttled left, right, and centre. Sounds like you're one of those ppl who thinks a company is evil based upon its size and not its accomplishments.

But hey, keep fighting the power man, just remember everytime you use youtube, gmail, google, an android phone, or google chrome you're supporting them.

1 gbit internet, sounds quite useless. I've got 54 mbit (actually its 100 mbit but my wifi limits it to 54 mbit) and i rarely am able to download anything at maximum speed. That said being theoretically able to download at 134.2 MB/s sounds awesome.

Well, in Latvia (Eastern Europe), we have had 100 Mbit/s internet for some time now (~2-3 years). And our (biggest) ISP is providing 200-500 Mbit/s (!) fiber internet to some areas. And it's been around for a year too.
We have 1-2 Mbit/s internet at our campus by default.

What? Are you jealous?

Edit:
The thing is - not every server (game or web) has so huge upload speed and some computers even have lower data tranfer rate than this. It's just for showoff you know.
Like:
A: I got 100 Mbit/s
B: Yeah?! Well I got 200 Mbit/s
A: Wow!
C: Meh, I got 500 Mbit/s, beat that!
A & B: O_O

You can never watch all the porn.
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to comment on porn download.

My mind was blown when I read about a gigabyte download speeds, but I really have to wonder about the cost of it and when, if at all, it'll be used in other countries like the UK and Australia.

Living in a country where 60% have internet at home and but 90% at work this is a amazing and kinda sad.I know its an experiment but there are places where this would be more beneficial.Even if they just spread it out.

1 gigabyte per second download speed
AHEM: Gigabit, not byte

That's an eighth of the speed you're thinking of.

OT: I have a 256 kB/s DSL connection.

Fuck me.
Fuck you indeed. Haha. That's ridiculous though, where do you live?

Steady 10MB/s here, live in Norway. Never have any issues.
The untamed plains of central Ohio. Home of flat land and more flat land.

The internet here is competent, but when I first got this connection it was the best this ISP had and all other ISPs had data caps or other deal breakers. Probably could get something better, but never bothered.

I could just imagine porn on a super high-speed connection.

The action would be like VREEEEEEE, and you'd have to slow it down to a ridiculous degree just to watch it.

The greedy fucking telecoms won't upgrade their lines, but they'll let Google do the work and then use it to charge you out the ass for access. Try 100+ bucks a month with a 20-60 GB cap

Think of it as a compliment about your lax net laws.

Great, by 2012. South Korea will go state-wide to 1 Gb/s :)
