I don't see any Americans in this thread who say America is better than any other country. Most are saying they are ashamed of being American (smh @ them) because of an asinine article by some jerkoff. Please flame said jerkoff and not all of America.

I think this is a big source of misunderstanding between the United States and other nations.

When someone in the United States says "we're number one," it's not meant to be taken in a serious and literal manner. We don't mean to imply that others are somehow inferior or that we're superior. In fact, within the United States we do the same thing, especially when it comes to sporting events. Sure, when the Giants and the Patriots are playing in the Superbowl, the New York fans are saying "we're number one" and the New England fans are doing the same for themselves, but they don't seriously mean to imply that others are inferior.

That is to say, the United States is the greatest country the world has ever seen, and so is Great Britain, and so is France, and so are dozens of other countries. We fully expect people from each nation to believe in themselves and say patriotic and nationalistic things like that, and I've never heard an American nationalist begrudge a foreign nationalist for being a nationalist. It's not meant to be taken literally, it's just a rallying cry. Yes, there are exceptions to this: some Americans really do think that America is better than every other country, but I'd say that they're in the extreme minority.
Blind patriotism is as bad and ignorant as blind faith. I suppose people expect something more mature about something as important as a nation as opposed to a football game, and shouting "We're the best nation on earth" does not exactly project this image.

You have got to be kidding me, this whole thing is idiotic. I usually dispise how American acts, both locally and globally. But what i just saw makes me dispise America even more.

Will all of you shut up about, "God, typical America," etc.?

THIS IS TWO PEOPLE WHO ARE JOURNALISTS.

From now on, I'm going to purposely go out of my way to search out anything some idiot in the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand or however it's spelled say, so I can make a post going, "Oh, look, look at what EVERY PERSON IN THE UK, ETC. thinks based on the statements of three people!!"

Get over yourselves. Everyone of you putting "Stupid America," are as bad as the people who complained about the google image.

For how long should we remember the honoured fallen?

Someone who shares my feelings on the matter - I feel much the same way about ANZAC day: Let them have the rest they deserve, finally.

I want to correct something that a lot of people here seem to be making a mistake about...

The Soviets were on their own side, not the allies. In fact, there was nearly a war between the two, right after Germany was defeated, but the Allied leaders didn't think they could beat the Soviet war machine (as embarrassing as it is to admit that.) The Soviets also, initially, signed a non-aggression pact with the Germans, in which they promised not to interfere with each other...if Hitler hadn't been a fool and attacked Russia before Britain was finished off, Europe would be part of the German Empire today.

...That's a fascinating thought, actually...I need to draw up ideas around that...

I'm pretty sure Google has honored D-day before. They probably just wanted to try something else in the name of fairness and diversity, which unfortunately are the hallmarks us commies. As much as these guys demand we respect our dead soldiers, they sure like to whore out their memory in an attempt to shame liberals into getting in line.

Blind faith is an oxymoron, as all faith is blind.

This is just stupid and another perfect example at how up themselves Americans can be.
Not everything revolves around you America and as Kwil said in the third reply, Alot of people who use google aren't even American. And I doubt they even give a shit about some of their "major American patriotic and religious holidays".

Maybe google should make a home page specifically for Americans to satisfy their self-centered delusions.

(man it's been a while since I vented some steam at Americans. That felt good:) )

This makes me sad to be American, where every little god DAMN thing we do has to be politically correct so we don't get our asses sued off, and apparently we have to pay tribute to every little thing we did cause the government can't get enough of itself. Honestly, it's Tetris! A nice happy game that *almost* everyone liked. Now the only thing we use Freedom of speech for anymore is to make more money!! Next I bet if I forget the date of Saddam's death and celebrate something else, people will knock down my door claiming I'm for terrorism.

1. Who says it's blind?
2. Which is worse, blind patriotism or blind hatred? Blind faith or a blind lack of faith?
