To be fair, he never said that. What he said was in response to someone saying allowing abortion may have caused the Social Security problem we have now, his response being people say that crime has gone down since that ruling, which suggests that the best way to get rid of crime would be to abort black children (which he then goes on to describe as "morally reprehensible"). Of course his statement's still dripping with bigotry, but he never actually called for aborting anyone. He's pro-life, that wouldn't make any sense.
See, even if he doesn't advocate it, that's a terrible position to hold, as it relies on the underlying assumption that black people are criminals. Yes, SOME black people commit crimes, but that's true of any group. Let's see how that quote plays when we single out Jews:
"But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every Jewish baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."
Or Italians:
"But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every Italian baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."
Or the Irish:
"But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every Irish baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."
If those quotes offend you and the first one doesn't, you have a serious problem.
