We're not going OHMYFUCKINGGODWHATTHECUNTMOTHERFUCKINGSONOFABITCHIFUCKINGHATETHATFUCKINGASSHOLE over his gaming comment.
It's his abort-every-african-american-baby stance that's getting everyone riled up. When someone reaches that point, it becomes a sole defining characteristic.

There are no challenging jobs available, unless you count being able to properly clean and maintain a grill and fryer combo as challenging. all those jobs that are what I assume he is talking about are fucking outsourced, and his whole "manhood" schpeal is just bullshit in an of itself.

Not trying to defend his video game stance, but Escapist is totally wrong on the "he wants to abort all african-american kids" thing. This popped up years ago and it was a pretty sad attempt to try and make controversy out of nothing (BTW, the Book "Freakonomics" said the exact same thing as him and didn't generate any controversy).

In addition to proposing to abort all African-American babies,

Wow.

Just... wow.

I was about to prepare a witty come back for this guy until I read the above sentence. After that, why even bother?
To be fair, he never said that. What he said was in response to someone saying allowing abortion may have caused the Social Security problem we have now, his response being people say that crime has gone down since that ruling, which suggests that the best way to get rid of crime would be to abort black children (which he then goes on to describe as "morally reprehensible"). Of course his statement's still dripping with bigotry, but he never actually called for aborting anyone. He's pro-life, that wouldn't make any sense.

OT: I agree that he's got some warped opinions and that he's wrong to make video games a culprit in unemployment and make it sound like guys should be competing against women to have more jobs and degrees if they hope to be seen as men etc etc, but that doesn't excuse the amount of word-twisting and coloring of facts in this article...

Where is here, exactly? And besides, I don't believe he's held elected office, from a brief glance at Wikipedia he's been appointed to positions by Reagan and Bush, but not elected. And currently he just has a radio show.
UK. And still, someone appointed positions by the PM here would probably be forced to resign if they said something like that. I'm thinking more of the things he said about women and African American babies.

I can only assume this is the same William Bennet ex-politician that had a massive gambling problem is now telling us to stop playing games. Thanks buddy, I'll hold your opinion real high.

What a dick.

Again, he only has some kind of radio show no one listens to now. I don't have a timeline of these remarks, but since he hasn't held a government job since the Bush administration I doubt he said anything while holding a government job. This remark certainly wasn't, and I'm pretty sure the other was on his radio show as well.

Ah William Bennett...a drug czar addicted to nicotine, author of "The Book of Virtues" and a compulsive gambler.

Yep....

The Washington Monthly and Newsweek have learned that over the last decade Bennett has made dozens of trips to casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas, where he is a "preferred customer" at several of them, and sources and documents provided to The Washington Monthly put his total losses at more than $8 million.

"I don't play the 'milk money.'"

Bennett has been a high-roller since at least the early 1990s. A review of one 18-month stretch of gambling showed him visiting casinos, often for two or three days at a time (and enjoying a line of credit of at least $200,000 at several of them). Bennett likes to be discreet. "He'll usually call a host and let us know when he's coming," says one source. "We can limo him in. He prefers the high-limit room, where he's less likely to be seen and where he can play the $500-a-pull slots. He usually plays very late at night or early in the morning--usually between midnight and 6 a.m." The documents show that in one two-month period, Bennett wired more than $1.4 million to cover losses. His desire for privacy is evident in his customer profile at one casino, which lists as his residence the address for Empower.org (the Web site of Empower America, the non-profit group Bennett co-chairs). Typed across the form are the words: "NO CONTACT AT RES OR BIZ!!!"

Now, how many of us have dropped that kind of money playing games? Speaking for myself, my biggest loss was pre-ordering Dragon Age 2. BTW, Bill, professional pilot and former military officer here. Thanks for playing, though.

*sigh* I can't even be bothered to ridicule this mans stupidity and small mindedness.

all I ever think now when I watch/read the news is "I don't want to live on this planet anymore"

I have a job by the way, and I play games. I spend at least 2 hours minimum a night on gaming, instead of watching tv etc. I work for a school as a teaching assistant.

Luckily I'm not American, I feel bad for you guys when your politicians are this stupid and don't try to hide it.

At least our politicians pretend they are smart, they have a huge wall of pretense between the voters and themselves with which they think we are all none the wiser to the fact that they have no power or any clue on how to deal with the problems we are all having.

That guy is just derp.

So like...what I understood is that woman getting more diplomas and jobs is a bad thing. What I heard was "WTF MEN! Woman smart and are taking over! Get out your pitchforks and torches and don't let this happen!"

Yeah, I know the issue is guys are seemingly spending so much time playing games that they forgot they have a life. And I have so many arguments to counter that: Games are not gonna cause the apocalypse, it's a lie, he's fat and old, and so on. But this argument is filled with sexist comment both towards women and men. And they are:

-Guys are fat and lazy and dumb and games are to blame and if they could only drop that controller, we could go back to the 1800s where women were treated like slaves and guys ruled the world.
And...
-Woman are evolving into a smart creature ALMOST like men. This is an outrage and we should stop this. If woman do manage to gain some sort of significance in society, the world will end. And a three-legged puppy will be kicked. You don't want that, do you?

*Sigh* I'm just not even gonna bother anymore...*Does something productive*

get a challening job
Well I would love to but nowhere I fucking apply to fucking hires me.

I always get through the interview process, I always answer their technical problems. Often times, they'll say "wow, that's the fastest we've seen someone solve this!" but no, that's not good enough because I don't have incredibly specialized experience they're looking for.
Whoa! you got an interview? you must have a hell of a resume.

I wonder if Mr.Bennett will hire me to slap him every time he is about to say something stupid, cause he clearly needs it.

The message about priorities is quite correct, but blaming video games, that is as bad as any leftist, you rightist tard. It's not like he can cite anything that says men aren't getting jobs because of X, Y, or Z. He is assuming men are playing videogames instead of working. I would say that isn't true. Besides, videogames is a passtime that does not come cheaply at this point.

He is clueless, but he has a good message behind it. Listen to part B, not the wrong part A, I suppose is in order.

Also, who gives a shit if women make more. My god man, grow up. This is easily explainable by the wage disparity between women and men. Women get paid less for the same job, so the incentive is obviously to hire more women.

The easy thing to do would be to make a law that says women have to make as much as men. Then a bunch of women could get fired and men hired. We are clearly the superior half of the species.
/sarcasm.

For real though, if a wage disparity exists, then that is why women get more jobs men used to have. So, don't go knocking the disparity, enjoy the job, haha.

I have long believed that somewhere in the American heartland, there exists a rift in the time-space continuum that keeps spitting out witless defenders of medieval mores, people whose values had already been outdated when Columbus first set sail. This guy here seems a pretty good example for that kind of person.

The shear fact he says people need to "get a job and stop playing videogames" If jobs weren't so hard to find now, I'm sure plenty of people would be happy to work. As is with the job market, now many don't have jobs and so when not looking for one they may decide to play video games. And then there are the people who play games as just something fun to do and many have jobs.

I don't even care about him blaming this "problem" on video games, I'm more concerned by the fact that he considers women rising to success a problem.

You are quite right, but to correct on one thing, he is not an elected politician. He got a political appointment. Both of which were granted by presidents, who are obligated to pay off the people who helped get them elected. As a minister of Education, he couldn't mess up because the school system is all messed up anyway. As a drug czar, he couldn't mess up because there is a million layers a drug company has to go through before they reach him. He had harmless jobs. I agree that a lot of politicians are stupid, but most of them put on a good show for everyone. This guy isn't even trying to put on a good show. I would say this is some weird attempt to get a job when the Democrats get ousted. Weirder things have probably happened.

All right, Bennett, time to put down the politics and get on a goddamn treadmill or something, because your far-less-than-challenging-and-mostly-bullshit job is making you a fat, fat old man.
On a side note, "the machismo of the street gang calls out with a swagger" sounds awesome.
