So it's been about 6 months since GW2 released. I've been levelling one character to 80 on and off and generally have found it a good experience, pouring 70 hours in so far and only doing 30% of the map or something.

What does everyone think of the game if you've been playing it?

I personally really like that it has no sub fee because I can just give it up for a few weeks or months then pop back in like nothing happened. WvW is also kinda fun.

I gave up playing GW2 a month in after I had already hit 80, got my character's "order" gear, and then realized that there was nothing to do as the "better" armor was negligibly better, and took 5,000,0000 years worth of grinding karma to get. There really was nothing to do once you beat the game.

Not to mention the fact that Anet basically told 80% of its player base to fuck off and that they wouldn't be able to do dungeons because you NEED a good team to get even halfway through the things.

It just feels so damn contradictory to make 99% of the game this "everyone helps everyone, tons of level scaling" type game and then make the dungeons the EXACT opposite.

Dont get me wrong, the game was AWEOMSE when I did play it, but now, meh, i need an expansion.

I'm still playing the game til this days when other has lost interest in it. Granted most of my characters has not finish the story yet but soon they will. Either way I am still loving the game otherwise I would of stop playing it now.
Wheather or not will I stop playing it after that will remain to be seen (I did bought three more character slots but I highly doubt I will complete their stories) but it's not a bad thing if I lost interest in it seeing how thanks to that game, I made a backlogs of other games that need to be played.

EDIT- BTW there is a group page of this game and we do got a Escapist guild in the game as well http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Guild-Wars

My experience with dungeons hasn't been that bad, I've only failed a dungeon once really but it's a big step up from the normal PvE stuff, but they were mainly just people speedrunning through and me somewhat tagging along. They're a different type of game from the normal game and coming in so late has left me at a disadvantage since I haven't been able to learn what to do myself. I've only done AC up til now though.

At least theres a lot of room in the world map for expanions eh.

Only played for a short while.

Got 2 characters to 80 and one to 54 and found out there was nothing much to do.

The PvP is kinda lacking and not half as interesting as it was in GW1. WvW is a clusterfuck, kinda fun the first 2 times, but then gets repetitive. There are only 4 sPvP maps with the same objective in each one, also gets repetitive VERY fast. I hear the competitive side of PvP is non-existent, but I can't personally vouch for that, because I've never been that into it. The game itself is lacking a dimension for not including healers, but that's another rant.

With all that said, I still enjoy it and am looking forward to future updates which, I hope, will fix most of the glaring problems.

I have mixed feelings toward the game. I bought it about a month or so after release. Since then I've cleared 95% of the map and I've played each class up to at least level 20 or so. I have an 80 Engineer (originally spec'd for grenades, now spec'd for the Flamethrower) and an 80 Thief (Power/Precision/Crit Sword/Pistol build).

I had a lot of fun leveling the Engineer and Thief... but now... /shrug. I find it pretty boring now. Pretty much no endgame at all other than PvP (which doesn't interest me at all), and many of the game's classes are either incredibly buggy or just fundamentally flawed.

I barely play anymore.

Got a character to 80, next highest is probably... 40? I think?
Enjoyable but it's pretty much dead now. Shame.

Still playing. Still really enjoying it, I must say.

Still think WvW is the best iteration of PvP they've ever had. You could kind of see what they were trying to do with Alliance Battles in GW1, but WvW really pulls it off. Never felt so epic.

Could perhaps do with some server mergers, to re-populate some of the zones, though.

GW2 is a wonderful leveling/soloing experience, a middling to poor dungeoneering/grouping experience, and a positively bi-polar PvP experience. The end result is a game that is great fun until you hit max level, and then loses a great portion of what makes it enjoyable.

SPvP needs a complete overhaul, all dungeons aside from FOTM need a complete overhaul, WvWvW needs a complete overhaul...the game needs a lot of work. Unfortunately, the live team seems to be incredibly small for such a populated game.

Yeah, this was always a concern. The population is actually quite high...about 1/2 of WoW's population (in far fewer zones), but the zones are huge, and due to level scaling there's very little clustering of the population. Makes everything feel quite empty. Lovely for soloing in, but it takes some of the piss out of the larger events.

They really need to make some events soloable by one person in a few minutes then level it up when more people arrive because loads of the events are just impossible, such as some champions. They also need to spread out the dungeons a big boss events more around zones cos at the moment the population is only in Lion's Arch, the zones of the dungeons, and the zones where the Dragons are.

I played for 4-5 days and then just gave up on it. It's not a bad game, but after some time all the events merge into one big mess and the fighting system has only little tactical potential. I liked the exploration, but in the end it wasn't enough.

played for about a week until getting boring/giving up on it -- it gets boring when you realize you have no reason to level up. srsly? whats the point?

There no carrot to chase, while others might like this, I felt like I had no goals to reach, everyones on the same playing field - whether you spend 6 hours a day playing, or play once a week, you'll end up being the same.

not the mention the embarrassingly juvenile main quest story.

I played for a good month with my Asura Engineer. I wanted the game primarily for the pve, so I really enjoyed the leveling experience and exploration, the story mode dungeons and the personal story, but that kind of went out of the window when I hit max level. I hated pvp since my class wasn't very good at it and I didn't really want to do it, and the explorable mode dungeons were fucking nightmares, especially after they were "fixed", to make them unfarmable. I eventually got a good portion of my level 80 dungeon set and then just stopped playing. I tried to come back for the god awful lost shores update, but because the game was super buggy and the fractals were wonky, I gave up. I'll probably come back if the next major pve update is good, or if they release more personal story.

Got to level 80, 96% of the map explored(iirc) and couldn't be arsed to play anymore. Both the combat system and the quest system were a disappointment and felt really dull after a while. Couldn't even get a second alt to level 10+ because I got bored instantly.

Nailed the problem I had with it right on the head, there just isn't any incentive to get stronger other than just being able to do higher level zones, I eventually quit during the lost shores event cus I got to take a level 12 warrior into a level 80 zone and do exactly as well as a bunch of veteran level 80s, completely crushed any hope I had of an actual power creep.

Played it for a bit, was generally dissapointed by the changes made in comparison to GW1. Then Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition came out and i dropped it entirely.

Might have been able to keep me playing more if it didn't have a server system where i can only play with a few of my old mates.

I started playing it around the end of december after all of the people exclaiming it to be the best game ever made.

Got to like level 13 or something and so far it's been nothing but boring and generic really.

I'm guessing that at release it was crowded with people. Well now, it's almost completely dead. I met maybe 10 different players the entire time i was playing.

I don't see why it's any better than WoW because for me it feels like it plays the exact same, possibly even worse. It's pretty much a completely linear experience because of how you basically shouldn't be exploring beyond your combat level (which makes sense), so you have to do quests in order to go to the next area.

The quests just aren't really interesting though. Same for the areas and pretty much everything.

Meh.

Ahhhh Guild Wars 2. Bought is, was really excited for it; love the world building and the story but somehow the game bugged me. Something with the levelling not rewarding you with anything and the removal of quest rewards rubbed me the wrong way, and I have one char on 40 and one on 20 and that's it. Playing The Secret World just before it released didn't help either.

It's a shame really, I really do want to like the game but I just can't.

I see MMORPGs aren't very popular on this site. I'm still playing it and still enjoying it.
