Ha, Ha! Exactly this. I never go on Steam forums, not even for troubleshooting and support. Their choice of blackish gray background annoys the hell out of my eyes. Good thing I didn't give Steam my credit card info since I purchase via PayPal.

The the accounts on the Steam forums and the digital distribution platform Steam aren't the same, it doesn't matter for Steam whether the hackers got the passwords on the forums or not.

OT: I was already wondering why I couldn't access the forums today. Maybe it's time to change from vBulletin.

Both are separate. Need to sign up separately for the forums so it's not tied to your main Steam account.

Of course not, but if I just look at it from my point of view, Steam is one of very few accounts that have a CC attached to it, and while Steam has excellent security I'm sure the forums don't. I'd hope that most at least have 2 passwords, and it would make sense to separate those for sites connected to each other. It's very possible more than 90% would do it, but I hope it's not 99.

Why do people give a shit about this? It's a god damn vbulletin board. They get hacked all the time. It is totally separate from your Steam account.

Is it a fucking slow news day or something? Is everyone just too uncreative to find a decent story at this hour? I just don't get it. Why report on a vbulletin getting hacked? It's fucking pointless.

The same thing happened to the Bethesda forums a while back, and everyone already doesn't give a shit about that.

Not only are Steam Forum Accounts separate from Steam Accounts, most people are using Steam Guard, so they would have to get your email account too. Unless you have the same Username/Password for all three, in which case you probably deserve to lose what you lose.
