Either that or just completely removing my card off the system as soon as I use it. Was trying to remove the card on my xbox live account, but it's tied to my subscription, and so I need to phone them up to cancel the subscription so I can remove the card. -.-
That's what I did on Wednesday. Even though they say their servers are safe, Microsoft are just as much at risk as Sony was, now that something like this has been pulled off successfully by the hacker community.
I still had two months left on my current XBL Gold subscription, but I had it cancelled just the same in order to remove my credit card info from the system. Luckily, the nice lady from customer support managed to get me my money back, so everything worked out fine.

I just hope the hackers won't be interested in my personal info they got off the PSN, seeing how no credit card info is in there. Still... the concept of ID theft scares me.

Hopefully the Hackers who shall be enjoying a nice lawsuit along with more if they get caught.
Honestly, if the identity/identities of the hacker(s) in question is ever found out, I believe it's highly likely someone would actually kill them. Rather quickly, too.

Just wanna play some FIFA online damn it..
Everyone should cancel their PSN linked cards..
But to be honest everyone should use cards with online use only in the first place..
I would never use my real credit card with my savings on the internet.
Sorry lads but if you use a card with no limit and loads of cash in order to buy stuff that cost 5$ or 10$ you are fucking lazy and crazy..

To all people who quoted me (To lazy and don't have enough time to go through each quote)

When I first said speical treatment I merely ment the fanboys who believe the users of PS3 shouldn't get angry at sony at all since they were hack. Now, I do feel bad that sony got hack but you sort of lose that sorryiness when you lost all your user's information. I know companies get hack all the time but this big? Come on that a bit hard to believe in my opinion.
Not too long ago Amazon.com was hacked in similar fashion. It was a pretty big story, though I can't find a proper article atm to see what happened. The fact that Sony's security was hacked, well, no one should be angry at that. Nothing is hack proof, and if a group or a really determined hacker wants to, they can continue trying until they get the desired result. If there is something that Sony DID do wrong here is lie to us saying it was just "outage, chill, we'll be back by monday" and then tell us what really happened some days later.

I completely agree in that respect. Sony fucked up with customer notification. But to say "Sony's security is shit" is a little retarded, no one knows how long these people might have been at this. Think about it, the PS3 has been out for several years and only now in the past few months has it been cracked open. That's pretty damn decent security if you ask me.

Also when I ment if this happen to xbox, their just seem to be a lot more hate on MS then Sony in my opinion around here. Which I get annoyed that I can't simply go to a forum to look up information about stuff without seeing comment after comment how about one system is better then the other. Or just elitelist in general. (Looking at you PC users.)
PC elitists understandably have a bone to pick with consoles. PC was always the main development platform ever since Commodore 64 and such. So suddenly when this generation came around, they weren't the favorites anymore. Instead of getting a proper version of say, Gears of War, they got the same game, no improvements, nothing to work with modding wise, controls were mapped horribly and there was no support for the many bugs that plagued it. Now, of course Gears of War is probably one of the worst PC ports ever made.. but it's an on going trend. Hardly anything is really MADE FOR PC anymore. It's not how it used to be, this is why they're mad.

I am a bit worried of the future of gaming. I don't think the entire gaming world would dissapper due to Sony (PS3 at least) going under but what would happen to the gaming companies who work with just PS3? Who would filled the void of Sony? Time will only tell and I'm sure PS3 would somehow come out of this but I firmly believe if they do they will get have gotten hit hard and probalby wont have many excluises as they are use to or will make their users pay for online like xbox.
It's reasonable to believe that the PS3 will be hit hard in terms of PR, future sales, and it'll be tough for them to get some people back. But something like this won't effect the amount of exclusives or making paid online subscriptions mandatory. They'd probably actually be sued worse than this if they did try to make Playstation Plus mandatory since it'd be false advertising.

You seem like an intelligent person, Skopintsev, which is why I must point out that you erroneously used the word "effect" instead of "affect". I'm bored.

Are debit cards at risk? I mean it's a silly question but I used a Debit Card, not a Credit card to purchase stuff. Well at any rate this made me feel real bad... I feel nausea now.
Yeah, debit cards are at risk too. Never used my new one on PSN so I'm safe, the one on PSN has expired XD I believe Debit has the advantage of having a £250 limit per transaction without a call from your bank to verify it.
You can withdraw £300 from a cash machine a day with it, too.

So its now confirmed they were able to get into sony's encrypted data as well and access card data? ouch Sony fucked up big time.
Where was this confirmed? After monitoring most news concerning this story for the past week, it's still yet to be confirmed.

This story doesn't confirm it. Nothing has confirmed it. Like many others have stated, what's stopping some random dickhead from claiming to have information and trying to scam criminals out of money?

And seriously, why would they try to sell it back to Sony? Or hell, post it themselves anywhere on the internet that they're selling it, if it were the real hackers.

It's a load of crock and sensationalist reporting.

That being said, I'm glad the only card I had on there is expired two years, and I had the info removed awhile back, and I was just operating in pre-paid cards. If nothing else, this teaches people to take proper precautions.

Everybody should cancel their current cards and get new ones because this is quite serious and it's better to be more cautious with this type of information than not. (i use a 360 and even i'm shocked)

I'm not saying we should be mad at that they got hack. I say we should be mad that if they had their user info just as plain text with nothing else to block access to it, then thats what the PS users should be mad at. If I put my trust into a company and they do little to protect my info then I should have the right to be angry that they didn't at least put up a better block on this stuff.

Also when I ment if this happen to xbox, their just seem to be a lot more hate on MS then Sony in my opinion around here. True, but then again most games in my opinion won't work with PC type gaming. I also on a type of Dawn of War 2 forum and when they release that they were going to do a 3rd person hack/slash game for the console people flip out on them and sign a petition for PC port. To me this is a bit childish as the company (Relic) is trying to expand its user fan base by going to console for this type of game. They are amazing (in my opinion) RTS makers and this is probably their first game for console (Beside The Outfit which was a ok/meh game). Though I do see that they get the short end of the stick at times with ports but at the same time I don't belive they should be push into making a PC port if they choose not to at the start.

But what I was mostly talk about is the fanboys who will aruge about which console is better and will not listen to any other side but their own. This is what annoyes me that I get downgraded by some random person on the internet due to what console I own. There no need for that and is mostly pointless.

I am a bit worried of the future of gaming. I don't think the entire gaming world would dissapper due to Sony (PS3 at least) going under but what would happen to the gaming companies who work with just PS3? Who would filled the void of Sony? I do not know what holds for the PS3 though I don't see anything good to come from it. They will have to do something to make up for the loss. If they don't have good PR or have poor sales then how else will they make up the money? They will also probably have to upgrade their secerity to make people who do stay with them happy and make sure they don't get hack this badly again. Though if you can think if they can do something to make it up for the loss from getting sue and losing sales then please share.

Network hacked? account info stolen? Sounds a lot like http://www.zdnet.com/blog/security/xbox-live-hacked-accounts-stolen/131

And with that I leave this speculation, as the xbox is still alive (kinda) and kicking (when it isn't dying a lot)

Sony will be fine.

Anyone by this time that has sat on their hands and not done diddly with their bank account are asking to get robbed. There hasn't even been a bank holiday since day one of PSN getting shut down.
Unless Sony is lying through their teeth and asking for legitimate arguments for lawsuits against them, they have already stated the three digit code for credit and debit cards is not saved on their servers and therefore not there to be stolen by the perps. That alone gives the lie to whoever is trying to sell any info. This is more likely just some copycat trying to cash in on people's ignorance on what is going on, helped by the fact that PSN is still down and unavailable for confirmation on what info is really in there. It's sucks for Sony that they had this happen, but they are looking just as bad as the hackers every day that they aren't giving some way for customers to access their accounts.

Heh, almost makes me feel better about buying an Xbox 360.

Almost.
Yeah, I wouldn't be so smug about that. PSN accounts aren't a guarantee to find CC info since it isn't a charged subscription. If someone were to get into Microsoft's LIVE accounts, it would be a real coup. People are already phishing gamers for their info on Live as we speak. Then there is that whole Microsoft has a reputation of being crap for digital security anyway. I would be buying points at the store, and if possible keep your CC info off of Live.

Its the credit card company's time to shine now.
What color is the sky in your world? Credit card companies put 100% of the burden on clients to take care of their own account. Everyone who had their accounts stolen is going to be having a very bad day for more than a year. They will have the burden of presenting what evidence they can to show that any fraudulent transactions weren't made by them, and then their credit score is going to go into the toilet, preventing any wonderful summer vacations anybody had planned to go away. As well as some people's homes and jobs. Credit reporting firms are even less responsive than Credit Card companies.
Whoever did this is a real piece of work. If and when they get caught they are going to cry crocodile tears over how unfair they are being treated over a little hacking.

Steam's a likely candidate for this, as well as Microsoft's Live service. I catch a whiff that there is something shady going on with Steam's service I am calling my bank. I may go ahead and remove the info anyway since right now I can't afford anymore games at the moment.

Actually no, that's not necessarily the case. I've had two instances of fraud on my primary credit card; one isolated, and one where my card was fully compromised and had to be replaced. In the isolated instance, my credit card company called me and immediately removed the charges and blocked any further attempts from that specific source. In the more extensive event, I simply called up the company, mentioned the transactions, and they were immediately wiped, and my new card arrived within 3 days.

Hell, my bank froze my debit account once and called me because one of the companies that I pay out of that account automatically included their phone number on the bill that particular month for some bizarre reason, and the bank's software assumed that it was some sort of scam.
