Japan already has one of the lowest birth-rates per head of the population as it is, give them a century or two and the entire culture will die of old age.

But then again, Japan also has the longest life-expectancy in the world, so it isn't as much of a problem there as it is in other developed countries.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the girl on the right in the picture looks really cute?...........Why do I get the feeling I shouldn't have said that out loud?

Anyway, I honestly don't think Japanese women have anything to fear from dating sims. Sure, it might seem "appealing" to men to play out a fantasy they might have through a game. But ultimately, as others have mentioned, there really is no substitute for the companionship and emotional support that only a real person can provide.

Infact, I would dare say that men have more to fear from dating sims for women. Due to the competition of the "perfect male" image coming from movies, romantic novels and soap operas, men already lack confidence when it comes to trying to form relationships. If you throw in virtual competition in the mix, then it's going to be even harder for them to take the initiative.

They do have an ageing population though like a lot of Europe. I blame wealth and freedom to make choices about lifestyles and family planning. Damn you wealth and freedom! Damn you to hell!

Fun fact, Japan is having a HUGE problem with depopulation. People just aren't having enough babies. Most sociologists say it's because of an increase in both timid, quiet, unconfident men, and intimidating, strong, career minded women. These two factors means not alot of babymaking is going on.

Whether how awesome a virtual girlfriend Nene makes is a factor in this is unknown. THough to be honest, I got the game imported and she's not that great. Can't understand a word she's saying.
