I would be happy with them simply not fucking it up. Though I have a few things I would like,

-More information about the Forerunners and maybe even the Precursors

-No armor lock, please and thank you.

-More huge fights like in "The Ark" in Halo 3.

-Make the vehicle physics more like Halo 3 than Reach

-Expand the characterization

-More varied playlists

-Expand Forge mode

i've seen the early concept of halo 4 and i was shocked of what i've seen. it was metroid prime with halo paint job all over the place. i mean the idea is master chief and cortana(i believe that's her name) landed on new planet and the explore it. If that doesn't scream metroid prime to you, i don't know what is.

Halo CE had a similar premise. As does many, many games and movies. Crashland onto weird planet, uncover secrets and usually the secret is something bad and you have to stop it. It is more common than you think. Metroid was far from the first to use such plot.

-PC version that's not a port (prefferebly w/ dev tools, console etc.)

-More huge fights w/ more scarabs

-Skulls should be back

-A side story like ODST with more RPG elements (silencers, ammo types, different armour that can break etc with each having pros and cons)

-More variety in armour abilities and weapons, you can balance them seperately for campaign and mp, same goes for armour

-Custom Server browser

-Bigger mp maps like sandtrap

-More open level design, like deus ex to encourage different approaches and to give more replay value

-All enemies in an area shouldn't be instantly aware of you if you shot one guy.

-Health and health packs should be back

As someone who enjoyed Halo. This is my wish.

Stop beating a dead horse you fucking, greedy publishers.

Bungie had the balls to end Halo because it needed to end.

You don't deserve anybody buying more of these games because you aren't bringing anything new to the table. You have to actually work to make money in case nobody ever told you. At least that's how it would be in my fantasy world of happiness and sense.

Not that anything I say matters. they'll be making a killing regardless. Capitalism, this is why I hate you.
Yes, because the millions of fans that want to see a new story in the Halo universe aren't getting anything new. I'm all for being civil, but that's the most ridiculous argument I've heard against new Halo games this side of "BUT HALO 3 FINISHED THE FIGHT HURRDURR."

A series never NEEDS to end. As long as they release good new games, which Halo has so far, there is NOTHING wrong with it. IF Halo 4 sucks, yeah, I'll be right there with you, but instead of saying "it should have ended!" I'll be saying "well, they obviously don't know what they're doing, so they better fucking learn from their mistakes or just quit".

I'm sick of the sequelophobia so many people have. Give it a fucking chance.

Emblem with with a teabag picture on it.

Brute chopper

Brute shot (my fav weapon)

No alpha zombies.
Playing as a zombie in that mode is like playing as a deer against several hunters.

Flood

A dev team that doesn't nerf something unless it actually is overpowered.

Halved or no damage against allies in competitive matchmaking.

More encouragement for teamwork like higher points for assists and protector medals

More custom armor pieces.

I'd rather people stop making the games and start something new and original. The first Halo, though not terribly original, was a refined and well nuanced experience that attracted a massive fan base for a reason--or several reasons, for that matter. But it's done. It's in the past. So much time and talent is spent and used recreating, rehashing, recycling and reimainging the same games all too often. Why not use those very gifted and dedicated game makers to create something new? A new "oh wow" moment? I know I'd much rather that than simply adequate expansions and addendum--just look at where the Assassin's Creed franchise went; tower defense? Really?

My number one wish for Halo 4: it's a bait and switch for something much bigger.
I'm just happy getting something I like to play. New games will come and the way coders and game designers work theres nothing to stop them from starting a pet project on their own anyway as long as they create and use their own IP. Plus it keeps good designers employed and a massive Microsoft sponsored studiio makes for a lot of opportunities for new people to get involved in the field.

If anything I think its great that 343 is continuing the Halo franchise (as long as they don't suck) because it gives Bungie the opportunity to make new games and for the new studio to test themselves. I honestly see no problem with the continuation of the halo franchise. Bungie gets free time, 343 gets a chance to prove the haters wrong, halo fans get new games, microsoft makes money, and the angry gamers online get to keep their favorite punching bag for a few more years. Everybody wins.

But back to the OP

Despite all its issues I actually liked the leveling system for earlier halo's because they were more skill based rather than exp based. A person can play a lot of halo and still suck at it, I routinely got stuck with way higher level people that were gawd awful against teams of lower level people that are just flat out better.

My recommendation for Halo 4? Don't use the OP's ideas, except maybe where banning from multiplayer is concerned. Everything he said pretty much screamed "just remake Halo 2!"
The innovations in Reach were fantastic. Perfect campaign, fun and fast paced multiplayer, it was easily my favorite game to kick back and play with some friends.

I don't understand the grenade argument... grenades are explosives. They're supposed to kill things quickly and brutally, and nerfing them sounds less like a rational, game improving idea and more like the rantings of an angry player who's died of one too many frags.
I also liked the stronger melee, if I punch something as a super soldier wearing power armor, I expect it to hurt. Besides, you can greatly reduce melee damage if you see a blow coming by hitting back. If you didn't see it coming, then I think your opponent deserves his flashy execution or two hit takedown. And if you let players get close to you often enough that this becomes a serious problem, you're doing shooters wrong.

So like... Keep all that stuff, 343. What we really need in Halo 4 is elephants back. Elephants in every map. I want you to remake Battle Creek (or Beaver Creek, if that's your thing) and stick elephants in it. Maybe replace Blood Gulch's bases with elephants. I dunno how, but work them into Midship or Wizard. You'll think of something.

You see the problem with this industry and others is that when something great comes around we are all ovejoyed and blissful and happily hand over our money. Then the publisher says "What's that? You liked that game? Well, I hope you did because that's all you're getting for the next decade." and suddenly what was supposed to be a genuine gem in the history of our culture is bastardized into a cash cow which I have to put up with and look at while imagining the dozen other highly imaginative, fresh and innovative projects that less lucky developers came up with are left to rot in some cellar.

I'm not pretending this doesn't happen all the bloody time. Even Harry Potter and Twilight were clever and refreshing ideas at the time before they became the hideous, amorphous franchises that they are today. Modern Warfare 1, fucking masterpiece. They struck gold there and so we have to live with MW and it's fatherless brethren for another decade, growing larger and uglier as they feed of our pockets and occupy broader sections of the market with their flabby rolls of fat. You might think one could just ignore the franchise once it got annoying but that isn't how it works because the franchise doesn't go away, it stays there and the next amazing FPS experience has to wait another 5 years so it can find a place to occupy in the which is forever saturated with games that overstayed their welcome. The feeling is reminiscent of a cheerful elderly relative you get to see every Christmas and always has something interesting to say, however one day it's decided they should come to live at home and you realize they are incredibly naggy, short-tempered and constantly need you to switch TV channels for them.

And you say, what if the next "sequel" is really good? If it's a sequel, it's already playing with a handicap and that's that it has to follow the original and unless the original was shit it's very hard to take the same formula, tweak it and suddenly make it spout rainbows and unicorns. Sequels are only a way for publishers to play safe bets. They could be making other, better games, but they aren't, they're making the same game again because they are sure it will make money.

Again, I'm not stupid. I'm aware of how the world works and know that publishers aren't my friends. They want money, fans give them the money. I want a new game, I go and check the indie titles knowing deep inside that the humble oasis of fun and creativity I enjoy could be a sprawling lake where I could be admiring the sunset with a group of friends and talking about stuff, but I'm not, because no one in their fucking right minds would bother checking out Cave Story, Treasure Adventure Island, Knytt, Focus or any other game which proves how much we could be doing with videogames instead of just teabagging each other in the face.
Did you have that response loaded in the chamber, ready to fire at the next person that spoke to you? Because you seem to have completely ignored the points I made. You even ignored a question I asked that you reworded. "What if the next sequel is good? Well, obviously, it's hard for a sequel to be good". That doesn't answer the question in the slightest bit.

Also, no one called you stupid. You really took a TON of gigantic jumps in logic.

Quite sensitive about this matter, aren't you?

So, if you're going to respond to my actual post, please respond to the actual points I made. I'll even broaden them for you to encompass all games instead of just Halo. (Sorry to everyone else for going off topic).

Point 1: What about those that want to see a continuation of a story or a new story in the same fictional universe?

Point 2: What is wrong with sequels/prequels if they're well made and enjoyable?

I'll add a bonus point for good measure.

Point 3: What about people that love the style of gameplay that a certain series presents? ("Play another series like it" is not an answer. I shouldn't have to explain why.)

Now, are you actually going to respond to my points, or are you going to go on another unrelated rant?

Halo 1 still da best. Bring it back
Umm... they sort of did. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo:_Combat_Evolved_Anniversary

OT: I want to see a stronger storyline, or at least don't want to see the storyline pushed aside for multiplayer or "cool" set pieces.

There's an existing "relationship" if you like, with Cortana and John, please don't ruin it or turn it into something else.

Let's get us some damn proper lip syncing in this one please! Bungie just couldn't quite pull that trick out of their game engine, until Reach at least but by then it was too late.

Please get rid of those stupid "tools" we all know they were designed for the multiplayer, they were clunky and had no place in the campaign. Inbuilt Mjolnir suit powers would be better, perhaps with a customisable "level up" system. John would have to upgrade on the fly though, no UNSC backup this time around.

Aside from that, just surprise me, entertain me and give me an almighty Halo experience we can all be proud of.

Halo 2 evolved from Halo CE, Halo 3 evolved from Halo 2 and Halo Reach evolved from Halo 3. My request (apart from have it be good) is don't fall prey to nostalgia or fans blinded by nostalgia, if you want Halo 1, 2,3, Reach, go play it, we don't need another one, move forward.

in terms of graphics i would actually like them to do something similar to the Anniversary edition where the textures werent the best ever (ok improve them a little) but keep it colourful with out tonnes of bloom (i love the graphics in CE A)

Obviously keep the same basic formula that there has been all along but maybe spruce it up a but with having to actually use various strageties for various enemies (ala zelda)
also make it challenging this time, and not challenging by putting in lots of enemies but do something to how it was in Halo CE (i cant explain how the made the challenge but it was there)
in fact maybe make it more similar to Halo 1 overall but different (i dunno how and if i did i aint being paid to say how lol)

im all for keeping the amour abilities in MP but maybe not SP tbh (although i do like sprint)

and please get a decent writer, the guy who wrote Ghosts Of Onyx did a fantastic job, or better yet get Dan Abnett (that man is amazing)

That is artstyle, not graphics. And my guess is it is going to be many shades of brown because 343 want this to be a "mature" experience.

They should really look at ODST and CE for the FPS elements. There is always an opportunity to redefine a genre, and the start of a trilogy is an amazing opportunity.

-Make vehicles stronger and more like Halo 3 with damage reducing the armor capacity but never destroying unless the pilot dies
-More jump height
-Equipment: Power Drain, Trip Mine
-Bring back missile pod and make Rocket Hog not suck so hard
-Brutes from Halo 2 because they eat you and make Elites less silly because in Reach they seem brain-damaged
-Armour Customization: it was fine in Halo 3, by all means add more parts, but make it unlockable through challenges/achievements/waypoint instaed of grinding. Also bring the space voodoo dinosaur (Elite) skins back with proper customizability. Especially Commando head.
-Bring back Spectres, Choppers, Prowlers and Hornets
-Make the sword the same as in Halo 2 (3 would still be better than Reach), the hammer in Halo 3 and replace the concussion rifle with the brute shot. Bring back BR, SMG, Carbine, Beam Rifle, Sentinel Beam, Flamethrower/Grenades, Spike Grenades, Brute Plasma Rifles.
-Make melees do damage through a popped shield - otherwise you can have done 90% damage and he just runs up and equalizes with you. In Halo 3 he would have died, instead he undoes all your work.

Dear Bungie; Reach is still a good game, but overall I think you took too much out from Halo 3 for it to be as good, although some of the new playlists seem to be reversing that like the modded gametypes in Action Sack so good job there; but I'd like to see a lot of things changed back.

Also, all your game needs is Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori. Beautiful music makes for brilliant gaming. Scarab hunting in Halo 2 still feels exciting purely because of the effort put into the awesome music that for me always means "Cue awesome event" whenever I hear it.
