All of my Halo loving anime hating friends are gonna love this.

I actually don't mind Halo and I love anime, but I can't imagine these two gelling together very well.

Halo was a series that became popular for it's multiplayer. Isn't this kind of missing the point?

I'm not sure I follow, Devil May Cry has an anime [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_May_Cry:_The_Animated_Series], a manga [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_May_Cry_3_(manga)], as well as two light novels [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_May_Cry_(novels)].

So 'yes' Devil May Cry did take a move from video game to anime, but it's certainly not the first of its kinda. Both Clannad [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clannad_(visual_novel)] and Air [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_(visual_novel)] have done the same. I'm sure I could find others if I really felt the need.

I don't play Halo and I don't watch anime.
Why do I get the horrible feeling I'm going to take a peek at this?

After doing some research, I think I'm going to hate this idea more than before.

Anime just isn't my thing...

Actually, there's an incredible amount of games that were made into animes in Japan: Shuffle and Happiness! being two other ones that I can remember. Oh, there's also School Days. *shivers*

But yeah, turning that type of game into an anime is a very common move in Japan. The only reason that this is so significant to me is that this is the first major Western game to get the anime treatment (to my knowledge.)

Didn't really delve into the story much. Red armoured female Spartan who isn't faceless, dark armoured heavy weapons spartan and the Master Chief has worked out how to Falcon Punch.

Animation's nice, though that's to be expected. Maybe this won't be as terrible as I thought \o/
I feel that the series will really have no where to go. The story is already pretty well developed and it would be hard for them to build on it without continuity errors/ plot fudges.
This would lead me to believe that they will simply be animating what has already happened in the Halo franchise, these events were not particularly amazing and as such I feel this anime will fall on its fanbase largely.
Except most of what you saw of the Halo universe is only through the eyes of Master Chief and his buddies that were along for the ride. There was more that went on then just the adventures of John, you know.

And I have to say at least Clannad is good (have not seen AIr)

Anyway, I am actually looking forward to this because it reminds me of The ANimatrix, which I loved.

I thoroughly enjoyed Clannad, though I felt Air was a bit dated and a bit contrived at times. Still an 'okay' anime, but not as good as it could have been I thought. I might have been coloured by watching Clannad before Air, it's predecessor (Like playing Windwaker before Ocarina of Time?) but that was my impression.

scotth266 wasn't wrong though, I too can't think of a 'Western' video game that got anime'd, which would make Halo the first. One might almost say it's the Forerunner? \o/
