Was that just the hype making it sell or is the game actually good? I've seen 4 copies already on the pre-owned shelf in gamestation today.
They could be one of three people:

1) Got the game a week early like myself and have played it to death already and / or were only interested in grabbing the easy achievements.

2) Cannot play online because they have the 4GB hard drive xbox slim, which means they cannot play online. More in another article on the escapist somewhere.

3) Have been banned by bungie for ragequitting. They're getting very heavy-handed when it comes to cracking down on bad sportsmanship and exploits.

Unsurprising, Halo is a 'safe' franchise featuring aliens and space marines in power armour. But that aside i do think this is the best halo to date, mainly because you feel like you're in a larger-than-life conflict as opposed to facerolling leagues of Covenant by yourself like you're Jesus 2.0 in power armour. The game also makes sure you feel relatively human during emotionally affectual times too, rather than making you care about as much as Master Chief ever did about what goes on around him. Updated graphics are a plus and the multiplayer suite is exactly what fans of Halo 3 were looking for. Essentially the same, but with a new mode and a few tweaks like the Armoury and commendations to keep you playing.

One thing I'd like to start seeing in articles such as these are prodcution costs. How much a game/movie makes is only half of the story, the real question is how much of that is actually profit?

Is anyone surprised by the launch success of a Halo FPS?
Props to Bungie and I was at the midnight launch to pick up my copy but I am not surprised at all to see the success of Halo Reach. People are willing to shell out the cash and that is a good sign especially in light of the recent economy.

I don't want to crush their moment or anything, but when Cataclysm is released soon, won't that break the record? I don't remember, but both Burning Crusade and Wotlk set new first day records, didn't it?
Well yeah but world of warcraft is in it's own league with 11+ million subscribers world wide, it's not really comparable.
Until the Warhammer 40K MMO is made and WoW just completely empties.
I very higly doubt WoW will simply empty. I don't think players have that much of a hive mind, plus why do you think we're still playing WoW? We're waiting for the escapist to show this on ENN:

This just in: Blizzard has run out of ideas for expansion packs. They made new races join the factions and literally tore the world apart. So instead of a real expansion, players will pay Blizzard $39.99 to have their very own prostitute fondle them as they play.

Holy fuck that would actually be a good joke for ENN... Maybe a tad risque

Glad to see it's doing well. It's a great game, not perfect but very well fleshed out and put together, so as it stands if this be the next game that unites a huge community together all to play one thing we all love in our own way then I say all for it.

Sure people will complain, the backlash of this game being very high selling will create some whining and discontent combined with anger and flaming, no amount of positive praise will convince internet haters however. And hate though they will, it won't effect the fun of the game for the majority and I predict a lot of fun games between I and my esteemed male friends in the near future.

Seriously, even if it was utter tosh, that number of people would have bought it. What's this got to do with anything other than the PR industry?

Great experiences? How could they have known that before they bought it? People were going to buy this in droves like they would the next Twilight or Harry Potter book, and then defend it to the hilt.

Regardless of how good it actually is.
How about the fact that it was in open beta for at least two weeks. Is that all the sudden not a good enough first impression. People bought Halo 3, and this because there was a public beta, so people knew what to expect from the online. ODST sold less well, even among fans, because they weren't quite sure what to expect.

A Halo game? Successful? NO WAI!

Seriously though, the game's great fun and I'm loving it. One hell of a way to send off a series. Here's hoping Bungie manages to survive Activision. They've survived Microsoft where others have been, well, just look what happened to Rare and Ensemble.

Sheep, that's all I can say.
Yes, because people buying based off their experiences in the open beta is fucking stupid. Everybody knows that you can't trust a beta version of a game to give a good first impression.

It's funny how all the haters seem to have forgotten that ther HAS been a way for people to try the game before it came out.

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!

Seriously, that is a HELLUVA lot of money on OPENING DAY.
But this is Microsoft, so they're expected to make a metric fuckton or three on the first day or two.
I just wish I had of been a part of it, because from what I;ve heard, it looks, sounds and plays AMAZING.

That ban only lasts 10 minutes minutes or so. I should know, I did it to myself to see what it would be like.

RAGEEEEE!!!!!!!

yeah, you just got banned for ragequitting.
You aren't making sense, pal. Halo sucked after part 2 and EVERYBODY knows it.
I'm assuming your stance on EVERYBODY knows it, is everyone that you've talked too....That hated halo. You must have blanked the several million people out who actually LIKE the series.

He said that Reach had already surpassed Halo 3 in terms of online players and would drive hardware sales.
See kids? You can run a company and be an idiot. Rach will not drive hardware sales. Reach was so anticipated and wanted because people who already owned XBOXs and played the first 3 Halos as well as Halo wars and ODST. People who have never experianced Halo or only experianced it in passing and have no real "connection" to the game aren't going to rush out to buy your system JUST to play this one game
Not true dude, I saw people picking up the Halo Reach Edition Xbox 360s at the midnight release party, people are still buying 360s some just waited until the version they wanted came out.

The sad and cynical thing is I truely believe those people already own XBOXs. I've got friends with a 360, the Elite, the slim... a RED one! They have 4 XBOXs because "A newer one came out" and they planned on buying the Reach edition.
