You know, a long time ago posts like this would actually have bothered me. Not so much anymore.

See I've realized looking at how much I'm enjoying Reach coupled by how well it's doing in sales that no matter how many people complain and ***** about it, the game still sells and the industry keeps moving forward. All people like you two are ultimately doing is not coming across as enlightened or elitist or intellectual, just kind of prickish.

So I guess if you want to dedicate periods of your time to insulting and bitching and whining about the popularity of a video game, more power to ya but it's not going to stop the game from being successful, nor is it going to stop Halo: Reach from being a fun experience for me and my friends and people around the world.
And if you, like so many others seem to, think that by complaining and demonstrating a hate for games like this, that a revolution is going to occur and make all developers rise up against the machine and create great timeless amazing games and finally free ourselves of the tyranny of mediocrity... I hate to have to be the one to say, that's not going to happen.

The game industry as it stands will always have a balance of franchises, indie produced games and the occasional new IP. That's just how it is, and frankly a lot of people need to learn to accept this fact. Halo is not causing a downfall in game design, new ideas for gameplay innovation still get made and new artistic games continue to grace the eyes and ears of players around the world.
But often it is the money made by popular franchises that keep the ball spinning and allow the industry to keep moving forward. It's a perfectly good system and it works just fine. So there is no reason to complain, because as I said before, complaining does nothing to prevent Halo: Reach from existing and being obnoxious or rude only serves the singular achievement of coming across as a dick.

So essentially what I'm saying is I no longer have any kind of grudge against people who feel the need to hate on things that are popular and be pricks about it, because at least I'm enjoying myself and playing games I like. That's something no one can prevent from happening. So if you don't mind, I'm going to play my Halo: Reach and if that makes me a sheep then at least I'm a happy sheep, and if being part of the 'cool crowd' means having to insult people for playing games that they like then frankly feel free to call me a 'loser' or an 'idiot' or whatever you feel like labeling me as.

Hmm I don't think it'll be very good, if you think about it you just control one character at a time in an M.M.O.R.P.G. so a space marine won't be any better than a hormagaunt due to game balance.

He said that Reach had already surpassed Halo 3 in terms of online players and would drive hardware sales.
See kids? You can run a company and be an idiot. Rach will not drive hardware sales. Reach was so anticipated and wanted because people who already owned XBOXs and played the first 3 Halos as well as Halo wars and ODST. People who have never experianced Halo or only experianced it in passing and have no real "connection" to the game aren't going to rush out to buy your system JUST to play this one game
Not true dude, I saw people picking up the Halo Reach Edition Xbox 360s at the midnight release party, people are still buying 360s some just waited until the version they wanted came out.
The sad and cynical thing is I truely believe those people already own XBOXs. I've got friends with a 360, the Elite, the slim... a RED one! They have 4 XBOXs because "A newer one came out" and they planned on buying the Reach edition.
It's understandable, that's just how most gamers do things. I have the old white 360 than I bought the 120GB HDD and after that I bought the 360 S.
Some gamers love new models.

There's no reason for me to act like I am enlightened or intellectual, because none of these words have any bearing on the Halo series, unless paired with the words "Halo is not.."

And if you think I posted what I did because I wanted to stop it somehow, you're dumber than you make me out to be. I posted my opinion and you don't agree with it. You're attacking me for it. Also, loser and idiot. There. You asked me to.

To be fair, MW2 was released on 3 consoles, Reach only on 1. $200 Million isnt bad for an exclusive.
Very very true. $200 million is good even for a multiplatform but an exclusive like this is unheard of. Congrats, Bungie, and that's for that Xbox Live Gold sale because now I can play online again.

And this really doesn't come as that big of a surprise to me considering nearly everyone on my friends list is playing it.

To me these figures don't really mean much without knowing how much it cost to make and advertise the damn thing. Pretty good for an exclusive.

Nice figures but is this really that surprising Halo Reach is a big hit, Pach thinks it will be the bigger than the sole sales on 360 for Black ops

Simply put, what I was saying was that it takes a very big headed person to insult what amount to 200 million people and label them as, to put it simply, 'fucking idiots'. From where I stand, to insult all those people so harshly and so obnoxiously, someone has to be pretty up themselves.
I apologize about the whole intellectual labeling thing, that was more aimed at the person labeling Halo fans as 'sheep'.

And if you think I posted what I did because I wanted to stop it somehow, you're dumber than you make me out to be. I posted my opinion and you don't agree with it. You're attacking me for it. Also, loser and idiot. There. You asked me to.
Not fun being insulted, is it? Not fun having assumptions made about you on the basis on your stance on whether or not a game is good.

And no, I was not assuming you wanted the franchise dead. What I was saying was that merely insulting the franchise and the fanbase achieves absolutely nothing apart from make the person involved with the insults come across as a dick.
Also as far as 'attacking people based on their opinions' goes I feel obligated to point out that you lashed out aggressively no less than twice to people who disagreed with your stance. First time I admit was probably okay considering the guy answered with a 'rage quit' joke but you still dismissed him by saying Halo has sucked since the second, 'everybody knows that' and then subsequently lashed out a second time when someone else pointed out that there are plenty of other people who do like the franchise by calling them the 'frat boys'.

The way I see it is, that is not expressing an opinion. If you were expressing an opinion you could say something more along the lines of:
"I personally don't think Halo: Reach is worthy of so much praise, but that's just me."
or:
"Personally I haven't really liked the series since Halo 2."

But instead you go on all out and say that anyone who bought the game is a 'fucking idiot' and that 'everyone KNOWS (as if this were an actual fact) that Halo has sucked since 2' and then dismiss the entire 200 million people in the Halo community as 'frat boys'.

That is not expressing an opinion, that is just being a jerk.

Yes, I do disagree with a lot of your points but that is not why I lashed out, I lashed out because you chose to present them with a smug and obnoxious mean spirited attitude.
I do not mind people disliking Halo and if they express that to me in a calm respectful sort of way, then I'll let them be.
But if I see a person blatantly insulting people and being way meaner than should ever be needed to be, then I will talk back. It's that simple.

Wow, I'm not surprised by Halo's success but rather by the amount of hate-rage in this forum. It almost seems like Halo peed in someone's Cheerios. Or maybe dated the girl they liked in middle-school.
In any event, I hadn't played a Halo game since the first one and I decided to get this one because War for Cybertron had worn thin. I honestly feel it was worth every penny. I'm not a fanboy, I've not read any of the novels, I didn't stand in line at midnight, and I think this game is excellent. I guess that makes me a sheep, you know, for having an opinion based on an unbiased playthrough of the game. Maybe I should just sit in my dungeon and hate on everything that isn't made by .

To say that Halo: Reach is not a system seller is just being naive. People who don't have the systems have to weigh the pros and cons of each, and having a game like Halo: Reach, only available on the 360, is a MAJOR pro for people to buy the system. The Halo Reach edition 360 slim was also even more compelling. Not every game gets it's own system release package. Halo is Microsoft and 360's flagship game.

You can bet your ass that PS3 will come out with a Gran Turismo 5 edition.

Hahah, exactly this.... haters can spend all their time hating, but me? I'm gonna spend my time enjoying something! I have the same opinion as you. Bought the original XBox for Halo: CE, enjoyed Halo 2, didn't like Halo 3 as much, rented ODST and loved it, but Reach just looks too good, and so far, it has absolutely delivered everything I wanted out of it. Kudos to Bungie!

MW2 sold around 7 million copies on its first day, which is more than $400 million dollars in revenue, assuming a cost of $60 per copy. Clearly, Reach hasn't snatched the record, but first day sales aren't everything, and Reach will undoubtedly continue to sell well for a considerable length of time.
To be fair, MW2 was released on 3 consoles, Reach only on 1. $200 Million isnt bad for an exclusive.
The silver lining is that Bungie and indeed all Halo fans doesn't have to deal with Bobby Kotick. That asshole already has enough money.

I don't want to crush their moment or anything, but when Cataclysm is released soon, won't that break the record? I don't remember, but both Burning Crusade and Wotlk set new first day records, didn't it?
Well yeah but world of warcraft is in it's own league with 11+ million subscribers world wide, it's not really comparable.
Actually, it's still impressive. China doesn't even have WotLK yet, and they won't have Cataclysm at launch either. In other words, the impressive launch numbers for BC and Wrath were excluding China!

See kids? You can post on these forums and not know a damn thing about what you're talking about!

As with almost EVERY successful Triple A game advertised and processed to the masses, there will undoubtably be a jump in hardware sales. Look at the sales coinciding with the release of Halo 2 and Halo 3, both shot hardware sales through the roof.

The popularity of games like Halo and Call of Duty, which are largly socially acceptable to even non-gamers, promotes people talking about it. That sparks interest. Interest leads to investment, either in inital hold-outs who FINALLY have enough money to buy a 360 and see what "all the fuss is about", or in kids who will NAG the shit out of their parents until a copy of Halo 3 and a 360 are lying under the Christmas tree.

Multi-Platform Triple A games spurs sales across the board, from Hardware to accessories and new computer components. Triple A games of largly popular franchises that are console exclusive will USUALLY sell the consoles they were made for (unless the game was a huge flop: See Dante's Inferno).

Erherm...

Im rather impressed for those sales figures. $200 million is not bad, at all.

Was that just the hype making it sell or is the game actually good? I've seen 4 copies already on the pre-owned shelf in gamestation today.
They could be one of three people:

1) Got the game a week early like myself and have played it to death already and / or were only interested in grabbing the easy achievements.

2) Cannot play online because they have the 4GB hard drive xbox slim, which means they cannot play online. More in another article on the escapist somewhere.

3) Have been banned by bungie for ragequitting. They're getting very heavy-handed when it comes to cracking down on bad sportsmanship and exploits.

Unsurprising, Halo is a 'safe' franchise featuring aliens and space marines in power armour. But that aside i do think this is the best halo to date, mainly because you feel like you're in a larger-than-life conflict as opposed to facerolling leagues of Covenant by yourself like you're Jesus 2.0 in power armour. The game also makes sure you feel relatively human during emotionally affectual times too, rather than making you care about as much as Master Chief ever did about what goes on around him. Updated graphics are a plus and the multiplayer suite is exactly what fans of Halo 3 were looking for. Essentially the same, but with a new mode and a few tweaks like the Armoury and commendations to keep you playing.
Yeah, read the articles more closely. You don't get banned for Ragequitting, at most you get a 30 minute time out. For quitting 10 times in a row. If you quit 10 times in a row, your an asshat. Go back to Call of Duty.

But, anyways... Theres plenty of reasons for returning Reach so early. Bought it as a gift and they didnt like it, they didn't like the gameplay, they bought the game, illegally copied it, and returned to disk to the store, etc etc. Its not uncommon to see a game hit the pre-owned shelf on the same day it was released. Hell, I saw the same thing happen with Fallout 3.

Modern Warfare 2 didn't make $400 million in it's first day, primarily because most retailers were selling it at less than half the $60 recommended retail price.
What are you talking about? NO stores sell MW2 for less than £40, even now, a year after its release.

Where the hell do you go to get a game on release date for half it's recommended price? Some back alley, from the back of some shifty looking dude's car?
