Don't judge a book by it's cover isn't literal (although it is most of the time. I don't blame you) It means don't judge something by looking at it, judge it by actually reading/watching/playing etc.
that's all fine and good. after you finish Halo Reach in 6 or 8 hours let me barrow it so I can be proven right
or after you finish Reach in 18 to 25 hours let me barrow it so I can be proven wrong
(hypothetically of course. the times are the thing you should look at, I don't expect you to let me barrow your game)

I'm completely willing to give Halo Reach a chance. that chance isn't worth $60 to me

good on you everyone but the 1.9 million retards out there
Judging from your grammar, punctuation, and point; I can only assume that you should be ignored.

OP: Yes Halo Reach has set a new bar for videogame releases everywhere.
fine, ignore me, spend $60 on a game that you already own, then preorder Halo Reach 2, and Halo Reach 3. Never mind that you're being milked with new box art and slight graphical upgrades
Just because many people like the Halo franchise does not mean you can go around and insult them. What is the big deal if 1.9 million people pre-ordered it? Many of those 1.9 million people could like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and/or the Half-Life series. Why judge people just based on one game they pre-order?

On Topic: That is a pretty impressive number. With this being Bungie's last Halo game I am not surprised there were many pre-orders.
I used to be in this boat. I pre ordered Halo 3
and I was happy until I realized ti was just Halo 2 again

then there was forge mode...and that was sweet
Jetpacks didn't sell "Halo 3 again" to me

I mean, Forge World looks awesome, Halo, regardless whether you love it or hate it, has always had a massive fan base and with this being Bungie's last Halo game, it's gonna get snapped up pretty quickly.
You sir, are not very nice. Lucky for me, I already knew what I was being linked to, but it still scared me a little. You should be ashamed of yourself! :(

On Topic: I saw this coming, and I could go into a long list of reasons why, but I won't bother. Let us just be very happy that Reach is good and Modern Warfare 2 is awful from a gameplay standpoint.

Hahaha, this!

ETA: I'm not a fan of Halo and do love a bit of CoD, good on Halo though, 1.9 million? and that's only pre-order D:

You do realize that bungie and Microsoft are done right? Dude Reach falls... It's in the book. Everyone knows it. You can't MAKE a Reach 2 or 3.

Besides, Bungie and Microsoft are parting ways.

But it's good to know that you THINK you have your information down pat.
if Halo dies that is just fine with me... it's not going to
Microsoft doesn't care about your books, or about Bungie, they care about your money
they'll find some new ring or new alien to keep it going forever
and when reach 2 does come out it will sell just like all the rest

You don't understand, they are incapable of making a reach 2. The book was about the war and how Reach fell, basically winning the war for the convnant. Check the review on game trailers. One thing about this game is that you KNOW reach will fall no matter what you do. They can't make any new games. Besides, without Bingie's support, do you really think people will buy Halo expecting it to be good?

As much as I'd hate to admit it, this is one of the most true statements I've known. I'm just glad that Microsoft and Bungie departed. No more Halo games, no more beating the dead horse

you're missing my point so I'm going to put it in all caps and bold it for you

MICROSOFT DOESN'T FUCKING CARE

Reach 2 and 3 and 4 and Reach: Modern Warfare and Reach Theft Auto and Reach of War and Halo Reach Rocks the 80's are all coming out whether you like it or not

and I don't expect Halo minus Bungie to be any good....that wont stop it from selling
that would be great if a Halo game didn't sell
that would give me some faith in the FPS crowd

If Halo Reach 2 either doesn't come out, or doesn't sell I will eat my shoes
then hope that the same thing happens to Call of Duty so we can see some new games for once.

You know, as much as I disliked previous Halo games, this one actually looks good. I'm glad it's owning MW2 in sales. Well, at least for 360 since it's all exclusive and shit.

I agreed with he other poster because yes, if you put halo's name on something, you will make money. However, as to whether or not Microsoft will risk making dissapointing games without Bungie's support, risking their fanbase, I don't think they would.

I think you'd taken it a little far out of proportion. I can understand that Microsoft might WANT to release 5,000,000 games with Reach's name on it, but would they risk their integrity and attempt to make more? No.

Even if they did: After the first or second game people would know it was shit, they'd stop buying, and Microsoft would go dead quiet. People wouldn't buy the original Halos anymore because of how much of a cop out and sell out Microsoft made it. Pure business: If you don't have your main partner, one of the reasons your product have been so... Let's say innovative (for arguments sake), then you don't try to make new products based on what you and that partner had. Why? Because you know it'll fail.

Again, as much as Microsoft doesn't care if they beat the franchise dead, they don't care if Halo'sname no loniger mean anything. However, they won't risk if because they know that they'll fail

Here's MW2 on the same date http://www.vgchartz.com/preorders.php?date=40125

Halo Reach is quite the beast.
Of course it could beat MW2 it's an exclusive to the system with a similar content/fanbase while MW2 was multiplatfrom.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare still has the best overall launch sell.

It was sold on 3 platforms on it's 1st day of release the Xbox360(selling: 1,857,294)and PS3 (selling: 748,092) & PC (Selling: 304,079)

For a grand total of 2,909,465 copies vs. Halo:Reach (selling: 1,992,079)

If Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare 2 was Exclusive to the 360 it could of possibly beaten 2 millon units sold on 1 system since there were over 1 millon sold on other paltfroms.

I disagree, I don't think Microsoft even cares about their own integrity. or fan base
and there's nothing stopping them from buying a couple perfect 10 reviews for Reach 2
so it'll sell

but we'll just have to wait and see

for the record I don't hate Halo I think it's the most fun of all the crappy FPS's out there
and I want Reach to be good, I really do. Experience has taught me that FPS sequels are bad.

If you like Halo, and you're only going on past experiance, why are you bashing so hard? Give it a try before you call people tools and such. And yes, Microsoft can buy all their perfect little reviews, but would you listen to IGN (they did rate the game 10), or one of the escapists for word on a good game? We know that perfect reviews are impossible. IGN even said "If you want a good story, this isn't for you" so how did it become PERFECT?

Consumers listen more to consumers than "professional" reviewers. Microsoft HAS to care about its integrity. If they blow that, no one ever buys their games again.

there really isn't a reason for Reach to be any better than Halo 3, besides the jetpacks.
and if it turns out to be as bad as I expect I saved $60 and if it turns out to be as good as I hoped it'll probably have had a price drop by the time I learn about that

why I'm so hard on the people who lined up in droves to play it on day 1 is that they have no Idea of the quality
which is the same with any pre order I suppose
If the game is bad Bungie or Microsoft or whoever still makes money off 1.9 million sales

But it's all moot because when I see the "Mass Effect 3 preorders through the roof" thread I'll have to post "Yay, I contributed to that number"
or something equally as hypocritical

this is the internet, you're supposed to hate for the sake of hating.
and call people douchebags
and speak in massive generalizations and hyperbole
and get put on probation for some dumb comment
and I just think it's fun to bicker back and forth about something stupid like this

Quality? Dont make me laugh. Halo is the same game every single time.

If anyone is being a sheep and following the "masses" its anyone who's bought a Halo game.

Halo can go sodomize itself with a rusty pitchfork.
Reach is far from the same game. If this is the same game then I don't know what different is.

Besides, not nearly as much as fucking Zelda or Mario.
Your passive agressive jab at me is noted. Halo is boring. Kill this guy, Kill that guy, Repeat.

Legend of Zelda, Mario, Gears of War, Elder Scrolls, Metroid, need I go on that are basically the same games time after time? If its a winning formula why try and reinvent the wheel? Halo: Combat Evolved DEFINED what a console shooter was. Its not following the masses if you enjoy a console shooter.

P.S. Want to know what separates those games I mentioned above from their Predecessors of the same series? STORY. Reach is a losing battle and has been known to be one since game 1 being able to make a great story line for the game even though we all know that is how it ends Making people want to play it over and over again is what makes it good.
