That's fucking ridiculous.
What if someone like my sis or friend is annoyed at me, they could enter and quit games loads.

How is that fair?

What if I go for tea or a friend asks me out?

All this will do is increase the amount of people who are AFK/AFC. Say a friend comes around, and your in the middle of a match. The logical thing would be quit the game, and go say hi to your friend. But now, you'll have to do with just leaving your game up, dying constantly.

That's dumb. Betrayals happen all the time by accident and people just boot the offender and it counts as quitting. I don't want to get banned from online play because Bungie made some really strong grenades and I accidentally happen to place one by a teammate. Dumb. I don't think quitting is a big enough problem to devote project resources to wards developing something to punish quitters. What if my house is burning down and I have to shut off my Xbox really quick to grab it and get out? Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

If you house is on fire and you grab everything you own and get out safely, I'd say there's a pretty good chance of you not playing Reach for at least 30 minutes, which is the maximum time mentioned for habitual offences.
Admittedly the house fire was a ridiculous thing to say, but what I'm worried about is what Bungie's definition of habitual is. I have been booted from several games in a row for accidental betrayal. Granted 30 minutes is not a big deal, but what of the habitual habitual quitters? Bungie will probably try to implement some sort of perma-ban on those folks.

What they should do instead of worrying about how to punish quitters is just let a new player come into the game as spots become open, and stick with the loss of experience for quitters.

This sounds MUCH better. I always did get the asshole statement whenever I get off for dinner and I'll get "Are you gonna be a little quitter ***** or are you gonna finish like a MAN!?!?" I just had to leave, not ragequitting.

What people don't seem to understand is that you're ruining a game for OTHER PEOPLE when you quit. You are LETTING YOUR TEAM MATES DOWN.

They didn't join to be outnumbered because some indecisive bastard can't loose like a man or decided he didn't want to play.

You can play our game or not at all!
More like:

"You can play our game with others who want to play the game. However, if you leave so many games continually in the same time frame, you are disrupting other players, and we will give you a 15-20 time out period" You can play again after that, just remember there are other people playing too."

That is more along the lines of what they are saying.
I understand that, it just funnier to imgaine Bungie as an eveil corparation devising a plan to stop people from stop playing their games.

I don't understand why they don't work at the source of the problem rather than trying to punish people for dropping out of the game. Quitters aren't the only ones who unbalance a game. People who might need to drop out to use the bathroom, or people with spotty connections aren't being malicious if they drop.

They should just add bots, or the next time someone kills a member of the team with fewer members they get swapped to the other team.

I would think it would be very difficult to determine someone who is just rage quitting and someone who has something pressing to do right at that moment. This just seems disastrous.
Bots would never work. It would be too hard to dial in the difficulty of the bots... people complain enough that people use bots as it is. Also the team moving would not work either. In ranked matches how fair is it to be destroying the other team when most of them quit, then be moved to that team to compensate, and end up losing because you are so far behind and undermanned. In ranked matches this would never work, social matches maybe but then you dont have that many people rage quitting in social matches.

On the contrary, the posts explaining that were posted inbetween the time I saw the article and was writing, and yes - you did come across as a bit of a dick.

My internet doesn't always like me very much... I think my ISP hates the amount I download.

Still as long as I can be disconnected a few times without repercussions then cutting down on quitters is a good thing in my books.
I don't like Halo, seems too old school to me. But I do like the idea.

This system is in Heroes Of Newerth (hon) and it works fine. You quit regularly, thats fine, but once your score shows that over 8% of your total games you'd left you will have to play in servers which allow leavers until your score fixes itself (note leaving a server which allows leavers to join will still give negative stats if you leave prematurely)

Being honest i like this system. Your leaving ruins my game, or my chance of winning and ultimately my stats. I personally do not care about my stats, but losing because someone else cant hack it winds me up. Of course i have at some point left games, wont be the first and wont be the last but i make a conscious effort no matter what game i play to stick it out until the end of the round.

I like this idea if they work it correctly. My opinion of "correctly" would be maybe a 20-30 minute ban if you quit out of 4 or more games in an hour. basically, if you left a game because you really wanted to play with your friend who invited you or must go do something, it won't hurt you at all except for possibly you lose x amount of credits, if they also keep that system in play. They would have to put in some way to detect who quits and who just gets disconnected though.

This feature is great.

Got to hate quitters, most games just do things like exp to bait people into staying. I like the temporary bans more though.

There are temporary bans in Guild Wars for example, and it works great. You can't play for like 3 ingame hours if you quit more than 3 games in 2 hours or something was how it worked.

sounds like a good idea however:

*ahem*
what if one has regular power cuts or one just so happens to have an ISP that provides a faulty connection?

they said something like this before the beta too, don't worry you won't be removed my online play forever, i think they said that you can quit a few times before they make you sit for 20 minutes not being able to play online, and this will only happen if you constantly leave not just once every week or something.im not to worred about it, i rarely quit unless i just get sick and tired of campers or something.

*hand* if people have really horrible connections and are being d/c for that, i dont want them on my team either. Not for the dcing and not for the lag.

I think they're going to only ban people who quit frequently. (like more then X amount of times per day) So the average person who quits once or twice a month should be fine. They should also give a pass to anyone that quits and is the last person on their team if they're outnumbered.

Bungie: You are all idiots. What if someone genuinly needs to leave, or is just not having fun. Are they not allowed to leave? Punish rage quitters, not quitters. Also: Any game that becomes unbalanced due to quitters isn't very good, or has terrible auto balance.
are you all stupid? HABITUAL quitters. that means when you leave the occasional game where you're being dominated it doesn't matter. this ban is for people who ragequit every other game or have a bot set to autoquit the second the game starts to derank not to punish the casual gamer who has to leave for dinner or something... unless you have dinner 15 times a day you should be fine
