Sorry Bungie, I usually agree with everything you say and think, but punishing quitters that much?
By actually REMOVING them from the game?
That's harsh.
In all honesty though, I never really minded having half my team quit in Halo 3. It was just such a relaxing game which I didn't feel the need to take seriously at all, that I didn't mind if there were only two people on my team or only one on the other.

That sucks...about 1/4th of the games I join I get kicked out of with my current connection. Even when I had a 'good' connection, I would get kicked from a game due to lag and STILL was penalized.

You suck Bungie >.< What have we done to you!?

I'm gonna say this right out: Bungie are douchebags now. If I'm new to Halo and accidentally get stuck in a match full of pros, should I just suck it up now? If I'm not okay with the game, I should have the right to leave. Even worse, what if your interrupted while gaming and have to go. If this happens some times, then what? First that bonus for PC gamers, now this? Thank you, Bungie, you've made me not want to buy this game.

It's true, ragequitters are a problem, but it's better off when they leave, otherwise they'll just whine and not care. I've played Halo 3 very much, and I've been stuck in impossible games over and over. It's not fun to have to quit. And I think it's my bloody right to leave the game if I'm not having fun. Shouldn't it be fun for everyone?
I'm against this in principle, but at the same time I assume they're smart enough to make fair restrictions on this so as to not push away the nice little fan club they've accumulated for themselves.

Gotta say I agree, I'm not a big player of Halo, but I understand its pretty damn casual...

Fuck, Bungie! I thought we were chill man! You dont have to go all douchebag on me now! This goes way over the top... I thought other Halo games had it fine, in that they couldnt gain xp or rank up if they quit, so they could quit all they want but made no problems. Sure, people have quit on my team and left me alone, but you just stick it out and make it to the end. Never once did I think "Wow, those guys suck for leaving me. They shouldnt be allowed to play at all." Overkill on a barely significant problem, my friends.

But I still love you. And who knows, maybe its done incredibly well and works nearly perfectly. Theyve been great to the community before, I guess Id be willing to bet that they are really thinking this through and getting it to work as planned. I Ill just have to wait and see.

I personally think this is a great idea, as long as they do take into account connection problems and the like, I got sick and tired of my team or the other team rage quitting just coz they don't like playing off against a better opponent, the only way to get better is to play someone better. Good luck to 'em. :)

Is this so urgent you have to quit a game to do it? Multiple times in a short timeframe? You don't get penalised for quitting a few times, the punishment is to discourage habitual quitters.

I'm baffled by people who actually think this is a bad idea. I seriously wonder if you all mash the quit button every time you start to lose at anything.
Could be I find a load of games with lag, could be I'm having an off day with loads of issues... either way, I think this sounds a bit inflexible.

The main way this would piss me off.... So... What if I am playing and my misses calls me? I aint gonna say to her "I'll call back I'm playing Halo", coz ya know, I aint a crap boyfriend like that.... but I aint gonna wanna leave my dude just stood in the game getting made into swiss cheese giving people easy/undeserved kills.

Here's an idea, I'm gonna AFK instead of quit when I'm bored. No penelty and you get screwed over while the other team/players gain all their points.

(I honestly don't understand the problem with quitters personally, its a casual game, if its no longer fun, why not quit? Granted I'm not a Halo player at all, so feel free to shed some light)

I hate this, they used it in Halo 3 as well, YOU LOSE XP BECAUSE YOU'RE A QUITTER
Well fuck you maybe I just don't want to be playing a match full of douchebags, which is apparently such a rare occurance in your goddamn game!

Hell, i usually end up playing til the end of the game even if half my team's gone, but i also end up quitting when it's just plain boring for me and i want to play or do something else.

The principle is a good idea, but trying to execute something like this seems impossible...

...The amount of knee jerk reactions in this thead sadden me.
As has been mentioned before.
IF YOU QUIT OCCASIONALY YOU WILL NOT BE PENALISED.
IF YOU QUIT TEN TIMES IN A ROW WITHIN HALF AN HOUR(give or take) YOU WILL BE PUT ON A WEEK LONG 'PROBATION' THIS IS JUST A WARNING AND DOESNT AFFECT PLAY.
IF YOU QUIT ONCE MORE WHILE ON THIS PROBATION YOU BE GIVEN A 15 MINUTE TIMEOUT.
IF YOU CONTINUE TO QUIT.... IT DOESNT SAY BUT REST ASSURED ITS BAD.
LEARN TO MANAGE TIME PROPERLY. IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT BE INTERRUPTED IN THE NEXT 15 MINUTES DONT START A RANKED MATCH.

Also to quote bungie:
"If you quit because of an internet problem we wont ban you. If it happens multiple times in the same day/couple of day, then maybe you should contact your internet provider while waiting for the ban to be up"

Hypothetical 1: I have faulty wiring. The whole thing blows and my Xbox and TV shut off.

Hypothetical 2: I've been playing for hours and my parents come in and turn it off in the middle of my game.

Hypothetical 3: We're getting owned by douchebags.

Hypothetical 4: We're getting owned by skilled douchebags.

Hypothetical 5: We're getting owned by hacking douchebags.
/etc

EDITEDITEDIT: Ohrite, nothing to worry about then.

well maybe if you quite the game and then go offline for a certain length of time then it knows you had something to do but if you repeatedly quite and re-enter then thats when you get the punishment. i don't think that everyone who ever quites a game will get kicked out

all of those factors would have to happen on the same day... in a row... and even then, its only a short ban, unless you continue to quit.

And what about people with faulty internet connections? When the server drops them, will they be considered "quitters" too?
Read the article again. That question is answered for you...
No it isn't.
The Escapist is ASSUMING that Bungie has some super tool that can tell one quit from another, but Bungie has yet to say anything on the matter.
Please read the article again.

I think if they just made it so you had to wait 10 minutes before you can search for another one that would cut down on people just quitting out.
