Hardest game ever.

These weird titles aside, I found the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games punishingly difficult. I still haven't gotten anywhere significant in any of the ones I own.

Do yourself a favor and get the Complete mods for the series. Not only do they fix a ton of bugs and update the graphics, but it also adjusts the difficulty curve making the game easier to get started and more difficult at the end.

Sorry. I just thnk that's pretty stupid.As a somewhat experienced stalker I have to say playing whit a mod on the first playthrough is one of the dumbest choices someon can make.
The mod changes the atmosphere and some core gameplay mechanics so that's why I have to recommend playing vanilla first to really understand and apreciate what each and every mod changes.

Ninja'd. I have finished the game however. The final boss incredibly hard, but not the hardest boss actually... It's worth to play it. It will last you a long time. Especially since it records how many times you die. Once got to the first boss without dying. I was so proud of myself.

I've heard Ninja Gaiden 2 is very very difficult

The US version of Ninja Gaiden 3 (NES), you take twice as much damage as in the other versions. And it's a Ninja Gaiden game. And you don't get infinite continues. Have a lot of fun, you insane masochist.

Edit: I'd like to take this time to point out all of Rareware's Nintendo 64 collect-a-thons: Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie and Donkey Kong 64. The actual games aren't too bad, except for a few boss fights, but at first the amount of stuff in the games can be somewhat overbearing, particularly with that last one. Also, you WILL need a pen-and-paper for Banjo-Kazooie. Take notes of everything you see and everything you're told. And beat it before the second one. And keep all your notes.

Edit 2: Pokemon HG/SS has a large number of sadistic bosses (i.e. all the Johto gym leaders), the wild Pokemon are underleveled so it's harder to grind, no VS. Seeker, Whitney's Miltank, Morty's Gengar...If you undertake this journey, be prepared to reset. A lot. B/W/? also has a number of quite evil battles.

yeah, this was the first game that came to my mind as well, I have got it, and can't get anywhere. I don't know why either, it looks easy enough really, but when you get round to playing it, you just can't do it.

Wow no one mention Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts until now? To this day I can never get pass the first level.

Also Donkey Kong Country Return was quite hard as well (or Donkey Kong Country was super easy). I am ashame to called upon Super Kong plenty of time during that game.
