What annoys me is that people who hate Halo often say that it's because it's being milked, and then in the same post goes on to saying how much they love Call of Duty.

Because people assume its cool to hate the mainstream, And cling to bastions of niche games or games that didnt sell very well.

Personally, I liked Halo (all installments, 'cept halo wars) And i bought ODST. I just dont play the multiplayer online anymore, because im more of a CoD Fan myself.

It's not a new phenomenon, people tend to hate stuff that crashes into the mainstream as Halo has done, just look at the Wii. In some peoples heads, this equation is created:

Halo sells insanely well + large cultural legacy = Everyone thinks Halo is the best game ever.

This is flatly untrue. I've never met one of these rabid fanboys (although I'm sure there are a few) but I've met dozens of trolling haters who give very flimsy reasons for disliking it.

If Halo ever dies on its arse, eventually people will hail it as the best game EVAR, then when it is resurrected they'll get accused of "milking" and be hated again. It's just how trends work.

At least you wont be finding much support for the CoD series on Pc forums anymore.

People hate Halo because they think it will make them cool because everyone else hates it. I don't Halo 3 because the kids on multiplayer and that it's just plain boring. It's extremely repetitive and I don't see what the big deal is. I enjoyed Halo 2 slightly. People get really defensive about the games that they like/dislike.

Halo is popular. Think about it, any popular film or band is going to get bashed. Just for being there. It's not an isolated phenomenon.

It may not be new, but why is it happening?
often because we don't like series milking it or more general we have a reason to dislike it though it varies from person to person
If Bungie was milking the Halo series they wouldn't be stopping it at Halo: Reach, they would just do what Nintendo did with the Mario series and Sega with the Sonic series.

I mostly enjoy Halo but the thing I hated the most waas how they made you play almost every single level at least twice, especially those BORING snow levels where every corridor looks exactly the same.

Halo is just one thing on a list of many things that are hated for public appeal (see also: EA).

Personally, I liked the first game, thought the second game was ok and had some fun with the third (I also liked both ODST and Halo Wars) but despite all of this I wouldn't say that the series was great or terrible, it was just straight foward and simple fun.

Most of the dislike for Halo (in my experience) usually comes from the fact that it doesn't have the most in depth story or setting ever imagined (although there is a story and background it isn't in the game that much, which is a good thing in my opinion, Halo is just supposed to be a straight foward shooter).

Seriously, "Assault on the Control" room was one of the best levels once you had the tank.

For me, Hale: CE was where it was at. It was the grenade physics and actually having a button just for grenades. It sounds like such a small thing. But no other shooter at the time had this. It was always flip through your guns, throw the grenade, then flip back and get killed by the hordes of enemies.

i loved the Halo Ce halo 2 was meh and three was ..not that good one. the first had very good horror type levels your intro to the flood and 343 also the Library was hell and i enjoyed ho it played out the books are a good read and fill most of the holes for the game yes halo is over hyped but it's nothing to hate about besides the lack of health monitor or ability to recover Like first aid!

Anyway this is i just my view feel free to make fun and rip it apart

I don't think it's the game people hate, well not at first.

People normally get annoyed at the people that love Halo and continually bleat about it.

It's simple, people hate on whatever's popular because it's cool. I personally like to call it the Halo effect.

As for my opinion on Halo, I think it's pretty fun. I've had great times with friends over it.

I do know a lot of people who hate Halo just to be different, but it is a pretty great series (especially if you exclude Halo Wars and ODST, seriously, screw ODST). And it is definitely by no means average, anyone who as ever played a custom game in Halo 3 can tell you that.

I enjoyed the series as a whole, especially on the multiplayer side of things but I do believe it's just a slightly above average game with good multiplayer, rather than what all the reviewers deemed a "jewel-encrusted golden gift from the treasure vaults of Xerxes."

There isn't anything particularly wrong with the series, but on the flip side, there isn't really anything there that we haven't seen before (with the exception of the 2 gun minimum and regen shields in the first game).

My biggest issue with the Halo series is and always has been the slavering fanboys who have turned the game into some religious cult. That goes quadruple for those who somehow think Halo "invented the FPS," or was truly "innovative." It was just generally well polished and brought a couple of good gameplay ideas to the table (that way too many games try and copy.)

I've played lots of games, FPSes especially. I've also played Halo.

I think the Halo hate is baseless. In my opinion, Halo is pretty darn good. People are just trying to rebel for the sake of it.
