Why does everyone pan Halo as the milked series, there's been countless iterations of mario and um, RATCHET AND CLANK? I'm pretty sure they have at least 7 games and no-one talks about that series being drawn out.

From what I have seen in this forum, and in the world around me, hating the Halo series (Or one of the games in particular) has become the new cool thing to do. Whenever someone mentions that it might actually be good, they have to include an add-on like "Yeah, I went there" or "I guess I'll be that guy".

It seems like people just insult Halo just so they can say "I insulted Halo".

Has anyone else noticed this?
I liked the last two games a lot.

Halo CE was waaay too repetitive for me and the flood levels were just torture.

But Halo 3 was a blast and had good shooting mechanics.

ODST had a very pretty world and a nice, dark atmosphere. Loved the zoo level.

Halo 3 online is pure fun with buddies, pure hell with random people.

All in all I do feel Halo is critically over-rated but it is still a very fun, solid shooter.

Eh. I had an Xbox and I played the first 2 Halo games. Nothing to HATE, but not to love either.

These people doing this are the ones that have come to the Escapist by watching Yahtzee and seem to think he's so cool they must act like him in every sense. Which is retarded since Yahtzee actually hates fan boys.

Tribalism. Honestly, people gathering around their hatred of Halo is a trend that is in decline, hence this thread. Hating the Wii is about at it's peak and you can see the stone age tribal logic of hating that at full flow. Something else might be on the rise but I'm not sure what it is. I dream of it being achievements and unlockables but they are in the interest of the games industry so us haters would have to fight memetic warfare against all of their viral posters to make it stick.

For me, the worst part about Halo is the fact it started the whole 'massively competitive online gaming' thing. For me, its fun to play as a game, with friends or my brother. But I just hate the people who become obsessed with getting a higher ranking and then thinking that this also gives them some standing over people IRL.

Exactly my point. As a game, it works well, and there is quite a lot to try out, with the different combinations of weapons and stuff, and the forge mode is great when you create some fun maps to play with your friends. But I would never choose it to be the one game you could not live without.

Honestly, these days I think it's more unique for someone intelligent to say 'I like Halo' then it is to say 'I hate Halo' because the bandwagon has exploded all over the place now and there aren't as many fans left.
Honestly if there is one thing we can learn from the issue of the Joobnook troll it's that Halo haters these days are the ones aggressivley seeking out and insulting people who like Halo and often giving many conflicting reasons as to why they hate it, if a person does not like something that is one thing and I can respect that. But when people angrily attack something in the hopes of upsetting or offending people it is another.
Finally I just thought I'd add that in my own opinion a lot of the annoying litle kids and dumb fratboys that plagued Halo in the past are actually now among the people hating it now. Because they most likely liked Halo because of a bandwagon so obviously now that the bandwagon is to hate it that's probably where they ended up... just a theory. People who liked it once now hate it only following what's popular.

Screw that, I hate Halo because I think its shit (which it is). If someone else likes it that's up to them (they're wrong, oh so very wrong but never mind I suppose).

Besides, its one of very few games where I can see no appeal what-so-ever in it. I mean, I don't particularly enjoy games in the Total War (except for Rome, the only RTS I've properly had a go at; I fail miserably every time) but I can still understand why people like them, and how deep they are.

Halo is just... The fact that it looks like its made out of play-doh sort of sums it up.

It's all about opinion. I enjoy the Halo games, but it is a really overrated series.

No. The majority of people aren't stupid on these forums and don't mindlessly hate something meant for entertainment. I think alot of people are under the impression "It was alright". Anyway Halo haters piss me off just as much as fanboys do:

"I hate halo because it's shit"

"I love halo because it's awesome"

Thankfully we don't get too much of either round here. After a few more months here you will come to see what I mean.

Right... so you would beat up a 10 year old for other games? Also, you need to be better with your insults; for your information sucking has two different meanings.

Just as most people say...Halo is over-rated.

It's a decent FPS, but I've played better ones. I think the only reason why people seemed to think it 'revolutionized' the FPS standard is because the mission was clear, the characters were a little more well-developed than normal, and the world was on a much grander, 'epic' scale than most of the other FPS's that came out before it.

Would I call it the best FPS of all time? No, not by a long shot. It's not even on my top five.

Yes, they do it. I'm willing to bet that most of the views in this thread are from people like that.

I suppose Yahtzee provides a rallying point for them, but I dodn't really enjoy Halo because the covenant things look childish to me, but smashing things with an impact hammer can be damn fun.

Yahtzee himself said it was an alright FPS.

No, nuh-uh. You have to justify statements like that. You can't hate something before it comes out, because you've never played it.

Of course, I'd venture a guess that many people who claim they hate Halo have never played it, but they're the bleating drones that you can just block out.

But he didn't say it was 10 out 10 like most other critics and reviewers at the time. His words have been twisted somewhat like all inspirational figures. I suppose everyone can twist something into what they want it to mean.

I know what you mean. It seems that declaring that you supposedly hate something which is very popular makes you edgy and cool, in their minds.

i don´t hate it. to be honest, i tried out every halo but never got hooked. odst was better than the others but still when i rented it i gave it back the same day. there´s nothing that appeals to me about it. it´s not bad, but why is everyone so all over the place about it? to me halo is the embodiment of the generic space marine fps.

yeah man! that is really weird and destroyed the atmosphere for me.
