I might have to if I ever want to beat the last Splinter Cell game. I either lost it, lent it, or traded it in...

I bought a lot of the games I had on Xbox on Steam when I started PC gaming, to name a few as examples:

Skyrim
Oblivion
Saints Row The Third
Fable III
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Dark Souls
Battlefield 3
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3
Dragon Age Origins

OK, I'll stop there.

Saints Row 2 for my 360 and PC, and Borderlands twice for my PC. I gave the first one away and bought the GOTY edition on Steam for 7.50.

I got Fallout 3 on PS3 ( I really have no idea why I did that) and then picked up the GOTY edition on steam years later.
Yea, I really liked Fallout 3 (even though I too had it on the PS3) and I wanted to play it with the mods so I got goty for the pc.
Same with GTA San Andreas, just enjoyed it so much and wanted to play it without buildings popping up in front of me so I got it for the pc. There were some great mods for that game too.

Bought Kingdom Hearts twice cause I lost my first copy and wanted to replay it.

Re-bought Super Mario 64 for the Virtual Console cause my N64 was long dead.

Bought Limbo, Braid, and Bastion (but for PC isntead of Xbox 360, where I had played them before) again because they were part of a Humble Bundle...still a great deal, and an excuse to replay all of them.

EDIT: Also bought GTA San Andreas for PC after owning it on PS2 because I wanted to play it again and didn't have my PS2 with me at school

I'm a constant victim (not sure if that's the right term) of this.

Whenever a new game I've been awaiting for is announced, I trade in older games for the trade-in credit towards that new game to reduce cost. But once I've finished that new game, I trade it in for a larger credit amount and pick up some cheap games I've already owned (and loved) at one time or another to play while waiting for the next big one to come along.

I do, however, own 3 games I've never traded in, MGS4 CE, Arkham City CE, and Red Dead Redemption "Special Edition".

Hell, Gamestop just recently had a Buy 2 Get 1 free Pre-owned sale and I picked up 3 games I already owned.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (cuz I wanted to expand my western game cache)
Enslaved (I really enjoyed it, but this time I bought it for the wife)
LOTR: War in the North (really liked what I played before, but a larger title I wanted more came out and I decided to trade it in)

I have three copies of Super Mario Bros., the original NES cart w/Duck Hunt, a Virtual Console version on Wii because I didn't find my NES untill later, and the one from the 3DS's Ambassidor Program.

I bought Morrowwind twice, although the second time was the GoTY edition.
I've also bought couple of games twice because I've given away my original copy, then decided I wanted to play it again.

Let's see... I've bought several versions of Mafia over the years, the same goes for Theme Hospital, SimCity 3000, Vietcong and Thief: Deadly Shadows. These were due to mostly losing or damage to the disc, my current computer being incapable of running it, or the game becoming glitched in some way or another.

On the other hand, I've now bought multiple versions of Thief 1 and 2. The first time I saw a new trilogy pack in a branch of Game, which when I noticed had Thief Gold instead the Dark Project I snatched it up straight away. I also bought a cope from GOG.com, as well as ANOTHER one from Steam. Not sure why exactly, I might just love it so much that I must own multiple copies =P

Then again when I bought one that could.
Then again when it was on steam for pennies, just cause.

I bought Wind Waker about 3 or 4 times. I also had both the gamecube and Wii version of Twilight Princess. Also had two copies of Saint's Row after my first copy got a pretty bad scratch. I also got the normal and GOTY edition of Fallout 3.

I bought Morrowind many years ago. A few years back, after finally getting a computer good enough to play Oblivion, I played that for a while, but that only gave me a huge desire to play Morrowind again. Unfortunately, the main Morrowind disk was cracked and the game couldn't be installed from it. So I ran to a store that, believe it or not, actually had several new copies of Morrowind GOTY edition. So I snatched one up so I could play the excellence that is Morrowind. It was so worth it.
this, basically. I had the original at one point and kind of lost it. So I bought the GOTY version because I wanted the expansions anyway. I'm currently facing having to grind some levels because werewolfs are just to damn powerfull, even for my guy being covered in priceless artifacts.

And I bought Max payne 1 on steam after my physical copy got broken. It's basicly the first real shooter I played so I'm pretty much in nostalgia love with it. Sadly it is apparantly at war with the sound card of my laptop so the cutscene's are screwed up but still.

Yes. I bought Fallout 3 on Steam, and my laptop didn't like it, so I bought it again for the 360. I then traded that in for money off the GOTY edition. I then bought the GOTY edition on Steam this summer because I bought a new pc.

I bought Awesomenauts on my (newly acquired) PS3, because I didn't want to wait the 2 months for it to release on PC. Bought it on release for PC as well.

That's it, I think. Oh, I'll be buying Trials: Evolution a second time when it releases on PC (bought that game for a 360 I don't even own I wanted to play it so much xD).

I bought Ninety Nine Nights 3 times due to a series of random circumstances.

Nope.

I stick to PC gaming.

The only scenario would be something like buying a game like Plants vs. Zombies 2 for PC and my phone. I barely play anything with my phone, but if the game was cheap and I felt it would work just as great on my phone, then I could contemplate on buying it for both platforms.

Reading the other comments, I'm honestly very surprised to find the nay-saying side I'm on, to be the minority.

As much as I hate it yes. I bought a lot of old PS1 games my brother pawned off (though technically my parents bought them the first time):
FF 7-9
Jumping Flash
Legend of Legaia
Chrono Cross.

I also got:
Catherine for the 360 and PS3 and I bought another copy to give to a friend if that counts.
DMC 1-3 and the HD collection
Several Genesis games since I have the originals, a PS2 collection and a PS3 collection.
Psychonauts since it was in the humble bundle and I own the PS2 version.

I bought KoA twice because it turned out you can't activate the retail version on Steam and GameStop wouldn't let me return it, I can sort of understand why but I did say when I bought it that I intended to activate it on Steam.
Still got the copy around because most of my friends aren't a big fan of Origin either so nobody would buy it off me.

I've also bought several indie games more than once due to bundles and all that, and the fact that I don't really mind.

And I suppose I bought HL2 twice as well since I bought both HL2 and later Orange Box.
