I recently stopped because I pretty much ran out of available content. I've never been much of a PvP guy and I've seen the majority of the new leveling content and dungeons (except the raids). I might return for another month when a new expansion hits. For now I've seen what I could see. I didn't regret my time either.

Yup. I used to tank. For some reason blizzard thought it was a good idea for the Valor Point cap to be reachable only by doing heroic dungeons (even if you beat every raid boss) and I got bored of having to drag idiots through them all the time.
Also the massive wait for a decent amount of new content pissed me off. Cata started out great with the new zones, but dungeons at anything other than endgame were completely trivial. Which kinda annoyed me :/

It also annoyed me that as a tank warrior, I seemed to be at an underadvantage compared to other tank classes, except for bears.

I did have a healer shaman too, which I enjoyed more, but couldn't be bothered to level it up.

I stopped playing a couple months after Cataclysm came out. I got burnt out after playing on and off for 5+ years. I just couldn't justify paying for the subscription anymore, and I was tired of being the only active tank in my guild. Seriously, we weren't much of a raiding guild, so when we did do raids I pretty much always got dragged there. It didn't help much that my cousin was the guild leader and would get on my case if I didn't sign up/want to go. It made me loathe tanking, which was always my favorite job, and I was damn good at it.

The game is also a time vampire, and I have other things I'd rather be doing with that time. It was honesty most fun for me during Burning Crusade. Oh how I adored Karazhan so. -sigh-

EDIT: Another thing that made me stop playing was Blizzard's incessant need to destroy everything I loved about WarCraft III.

I played it for about year-and-a-half from Vanilla launched, but left because I started hitting the boredom zone of about lvl 45-50... And I couldn't find the time to run dungeons, so all the best gear was out of my reach.. About 1½ years ago, I picked it up again, breezed through The burning Crusade, and got to Northrend... And hit another grindfest right at lvl 70... So I stopped again... It became too much of the same, and I got bored with it... At the same time, I started playing Dragon Age: Origins, and training for a tour to Kosovo... So my focus shifted quite drastically :p..
Been tempted a few times to pick it up again, with Cataclysm, but I always find other things to use my hard-earned cash on :)

Best Regards :)

My guild that i played with broke up, but i still played for about a year after but I couldn't find a guild that was right for me, i guild-hopped quite a bit. Raids ended up boring, mainly because of this, even in new guilds because the atmosphere wasn't like my old guild.

The complete disorganization of guilds didn't spur me on to stay once I'd hit the level cap of Cataclysm. I didn't like cataclysm at all, I found it too punishing, for too little reward. It just made me crave the time where I'd get off WoW and go outside. A really sad thing...

I don't intend to go back to WoW, I have many level 80's and a single 85. That's all the motivation I have with it tbh...

I was thinking of playing EVE, but I don't know... I might look at some lets plays first.

Stopped playing properly 2 years ago, but I have tried to start again twice since then but it's never re-ignited for me.
I used to enjoy it but I have realised it was just because of a friend.
Grinding was only 'fun' when I was playing with my friend. Dungeons - it didn't matter if we got curbstomped, or if we walked away with so much loot we ran out of bag spaces - because I was having a laugh with my mate. Zul Fa'rak (or whatever, haven't done it for 2 years) was my favourite to go through,
But mate left - suddenly grinding is a real pain. Dungeons - the teams were filled with greedy "I need that warlock only stuff you need, even though I'm a warrior!" twats, or morons trying to become the next Leroy Jenkins.

Why did I leave? I lost the social aspect. And it's ridiculously time-consuming. And the money.

I played from Day 1 on WoW up until Cata. Bought it and played it for a month and dropped that game like it never mattered to me. And I was pretty hardcore obsessed with that game, I'd freak out if I missed a day of playing.

My reason for leaving was that I had pretty much memorized that game, I could tell you npc names and how to do a quest and where anything was on the map instantly from memory. Then Cata came and blew everything up and I just didn't want to learn it all again. I felt like all my hard work had been ripped away from me. This may sound stupid but, before Cata, I felt like that was my world. Now I didn't know where I was or who I wanted my character to be.

So I quit, uninstalled it, Blizz has offered lots of free game time, but I just scoff and delete the emails.

I played WoW just long enough to get my weak-ass Undead Warrior (Oh Yes) to the main settlement for the Undead. I got to level 20 or so, then quit and never returned. I hadn't had any fun anywhere between level 1 and level 20, I found the controls to be both boring and counter-intuitive, and I'll be damned before I pay 15 dollars a month for the entire duration of my playtime in that game.

That said, Star Wars: The Old Republic is coming out soon and it's about to make me look like a massive hypocrite.

I haven't left WOW because I've never started WOW. One of my better decisions in life.

But I have started Magic the Gathering last year...the jury is still out on that one.

Crack is crack....whether it's made of paper or of 0s and 1s.

I've tried several character builds but haven't been able to focus long enough for any of them to hit level 30. I tried the extended trail but once I actually shelled out for the battle chest I only really managed to go forward a few more levels before I got bored and went back to my console gaming.

Played, found it boring and the community is over moderated. Seriously, bans for guild bank theft/trade scams that use nothing more than the games own mechanics? Jeez, eve online and some other mmo's would make the blizzard community mods weep upon hearing a trade scam described as "Market pvp".

The community as a whole seems to have a massive entitlement complex and player skill seems to take a back seat to almighty "EPIC GEAR SCORE" when groups are being sought.

Also I like pvp, and it felt secondary their.

Oh and finally, the races dont have any real differences (apart from cosmetic and "Lol I iz a cow) and the class balance seems to be.....well a little off.

i found that while i was playin id see a whole lot of content & gameplay that i wasnt interacting with because no one else was using it. you spent half your playtime lvling and not enough time /w your friends, so id always be wishing i was doing something else. also class balance really got to me, dunno why :s

i played for a little while but left because it didn't seem to have a story arc, grinding sucked, and going to any other place took forever. i know that last one isn't a big deal, but after playing GW for a few years with fast travel, it kinda weighed on me.

I probably came back and left again after every expansion. I never had anybody to do any of the big dungeons with. I dont really like partying up with people I dont know and all my friends never gave the game as much dedication as I did. Thats why I'm always a supporter of having some kind of way to play a MMO solo, like Guild Wars.

I've never been afraid to go on breaks whenever I felt like the game wasn't satisfying. So despite buying it all the way back in 2005, I think I "only" have about 2 years worth of active subscriptions. My breaks are getting increasingly longer though, and I think I've reached the point where I'm not sure if I'll ever go back.

The main problem I have with WoW in its current state is the lore. This might sound strange to most but I actually got into WoW originally because I really liked the setting in the RTS games. In Cataclysm, I think it shows that the remaining plot lines from Warcraft III have dried out and so far they have failed to keep me interested in the story they are trying to tell. I'm also sick to death of Old Gods, it has become too convenient to blame everything that goes wrong on them. I also find Deathwing to be a boring villain so far, even as a long-time lore fan he strikes me as being just "that dragon boss" with no characterisation beyond the fact that he's crazy. As for the areas, some of them are more concerned about making pop culture references every other minute than actually trying to fit in the setting (see Uldum).

And thanks to the new unlimited trial, if I ever get nostalgic I should be able to get my fit by leveling a character to 20. So at this point in time, I think it would take something quite significant to get me to subscribe again. It does make me sad somewhat because I honestly have a lot of great memories from this game and I often wish I could erase all of it from my memory and start from scratch again.

Tired of the obligations inherent in regular raiding, and too many friends had quit for alts or 5 mans to be much fun.
