He didn't overdose, it was a mixture of different medications that he was on that killed him. I'm pretty sure it happened because he had a couple of different doctors who didn't know what the other one was giving. But as for the news story, that's pretty cool.

I think they could actually use this as a way to get Harley Quinn into the sequel. There could be one scene where Jurors finally decided to gain a little sense and execute the joker after another escape and attempted terrorism. Using a few clever shots with footage of Heath Ledger mixed in with a double when you're not showing the joker's face. We can see the execution of the joker, and his therapist (Good old Harley) is there watching... After a few more scenes we see her going insane over the loss of her "love" and taking on the mantle of Harley Quinn and swearing vengeance on batman...

If Harley Quinn is in the next batman movie it would be a great way to have a little bit of the joker while still giving us a fresh villain... Just please choose an intelligent woman to play her, and don't over sexualize the character, Harley Quinn was flirty, but never really went beyond that (What I am basically saying is... PLEASE KEEP MEGAN FOX AS FAR FROM THE ROLE AS POSSIBLE)
I can haz: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000307/ ?

It would definately work for continuity purposes. Wouldn't want to get a new actor because that'd piss off all the 'OMG Heath waz tee bestes joker, nobodie should play the joker every again!!11" kids.
But damn, he was a brilliant Joker. Now, if we could find a brilliant actor who just happened to have Mark Hamil's voice...
I'm wondering why nobody's considered just straight-up casting Hamil himself as the Joker. He mainly got into voice acting because he's too recognizable, visually, as Luke Skywalker and nobody would take him seriously in another role, but with all the makeup the Joker has on, it'd be hard to tell him from anyone else.

I would love to see him again, but how are they going to blend the footage in to the story? Flashbacks?

As long as he has promission, does a good job of it and dedicates the film to Heath then i think its a great idea!

I say don't put him in. Hear me out. We all loved his performance in Dark Knight. To have some digital copy or look-a-like in the sequel might ruin that image for us. I say keep him out and preserve his legacy.

It sounded like he'd said this before asking his family first, which seems a bit dickish to me.

I've not seen the second film (I know, I know) so I can't comment on Ledger's portrayal, but it seems at odds with the Joker's character for him to have a brief non-speaking role. Unless, of course, he's either asleep or heavily subdued.

I think they should go for it, a small cameo would work for continuity, and as a tribute to the man who owned the role.
Something where Batman passes by the Joker's cell in Arkham and they both shoot each other a glance, like Joker's just letting Batman know that they'll meet up again eventually.

I'd dig it.

If his family are okay with it then more power to him. It's a pretty good way to cap off his performance when he can't.

As little as ten years ago, I could totally tell that Oliver Reed's character in Gladiator was faked in the one scene that needed to be filmed after the actor had passed away.
We mortals are but Shadows and Dust, Titomus. Shadows and Dust.
I didn't know that about Oliver Reed. What scene was he digitally put into?
Okay, remember the bit where they've got it all planned out for Maximus to escape Rome, recover his still loyal army and defeat Emperor Joaquin Phoenix?

Essentially all the times you saw him in the breakout scene, including his death.
They changed the colour of his robe (same footage from a previous scene) had another person walk through the yard, blurred out, and then reused his "Shadows and Dust" footage, again with simple editing of his lines, cut to another actor being repeatedly stabbed in the back, and you have yourself your own zombie Oliver Reed.

I'd agree but Hamil is far too old to play it now. Even if he has the perfect voice for the role, it doesn't mean he has the proper body language for it.

Hes dead largely because of anxiety he has having over playing such a disturbing charcater in that The Dark Knight, which sounds odd to me but whatever.

Ledgers death ENSURED this movies success, despite it being fantastic. How many people did you know who saw this that never saw Batman Begins? Or even liked Batman? (I fell into those categories).

While I hate to cry foul (which is a lie, I do), this just SCREAMS publicity stunt.

Well it worked in The Crow, and didn't Superman Returns do something similar? So I don't doubt a brief shot will look fine and realistic as needs be. And knowing Christopher Nolan, he probably imagined one specific shot with Heath being Arkham bars and from there created an entire plot around that one image to the point where this became his main option. It sounds ridiculous, but this is the guy that made Inception and Memento after all.

Heath returning from the grave with the power of computers to maintain some semblance of continuity in the Batman movies? Now if only the comics can have the same decency with them bringing Bruce Wayne back, which I'm refusing to believe until they make it less stupid. Either way, w00t!
Yeah, I'm really not liking what they've been doing to Batman for so long either. It's fucking daft.

But on to Ledger's Return.. It could work, and seeing as how Nolan's a very tasteful, respectful guy I can't see it being a problem.

That said, it's not an official announcement, so I'm not going to read too much into it.

Just get Johnny Depp, Colin Farrel, and Jude Law.
It worked really well for Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus.

Hmm. I like that casting. Get her to lose a little weight and put Harley's eye-mask on her, and she could sell it.
I've always imagined her to be Ms. Quinn, she's been in a weird/crazy role so many times as it is:
- Fight Club
- Corpse Bride
- Harry Potter (5?)
- Alice in Wonderland

Seems to be a pretty close match to me.
As an actor, she'd be my first choice. But if she had to do any jumping around and acrobatics stuff (which Harley Quinn is notorious for), they'd probably choose someone with a more athletic body (unless they chose to completely CGI it, lawl)

I don't think we'd see any Harley Quinn as it is, she's a Joker minion, and with Joker permanently behind bars (I sincerely hope they don't try to resurrect him with some other actor?) there is no reason to bring in Harley Quinn.

"Chris wants some continuity between movies and for the franchise to pay tribute to Heath and his portrayal of the Joker."

translation:

"Heath basically sold the movie itself and made us rich, we want more money by using old footage instead of finding another talented actor and paying them"

I actually think its disrespectful. He died, it sucks, but move on.
