Ehh, he ought to have kept his mouth shut until he could demonstrate this promised awesome technology.

Seriously, am I the ONLY person who finds L.A. Noire's characters to be deep in the Uncanny Valley? All I hear is praise for the MotionScan stuff, but every video I see of it in action just creeps me out.

Anyway, on-topic, I agree with Mr. Cage that motion/expression capture has much more room for improvement than MotionScan. Body language IS important. His statements do sound a bit arrogant, and a bit like he's bashing a rival, but they're not wrong.

Meh, I didn't care for Heavy Rain. I played up until just after I lost the kid in the shopping mall. At least LA Noire can be counted as a game.
If you didn't play the whole thing then you have no right to say it's not a game. I'm sick of people just calling it a movie, most of these people who say this like you have either never played it or played only a tiny part of it.

OT: I can't wait to see what Quantic Dream does next. And I genuinely believe David Cage when he says they are gonna completely surpass L.A. Noire's tech.

Sorry, I didn't know I wasn't entitled to an opinion.
By the way, I still don't think it's a game; what's going to happen?

You only posited an ignorant and unjustified opinion.

If you haven't finished the game? How can you make that judgement? You can't, you're just repeating what others have said or perhaps just talking out of your arse.

I love Quantic Dreams' games, and could never really get into Rock Star's stuff, even though people praised GTA 4's storyline and characters. In that realm, Quantic Dreams is far superior, and as far as I'm concerned, that's the most important thing, followed by fun and engaging innovation and gameplay. I'm just excited to know that Mr. Cage is working on something new and sincerely hope that his claims aren't just hot air and/or rival-bashing.
But I'll be the first to admit that I like me some amazingly realistic graphics. So I'll be interested to check L.A. Noir out along with whatever QD has to offer in the future.

Okay, If I say it's a game will it make you happy?

Okay then it's a game. A game with bland unlikeable uncanny-valley characters, little gameplay and terrible pacing.

If I can't base the entire game around the beginning (the bit that's supposed to draw you in), then I'll treat all of that time I spent "playing" that section as a cutscene. An extremely long, bored-me-to-tears cutscene; happy?
You can't even say to me "It gets better later", as that's a terrible argument.

I just watched a trailer of L.A. Noir to see what you were talking about, Kavonde, and I definitely agree. The character models look very uncanny...
But I remember people bashing Heavy Rain for that based on trailers before, and by the time the game was released, it looked natural, so Rock Star will probably refine that. One can only hope...

OK I'll just throw this out there. He says Motionscan is too expensive yet his approach would require actors rather than stuntmen to do all the work and they are both more expensive and less capable of action scenes.

Imagine if I said: 'Meh, I didn't care for Mass Effect 2. I played it for an hour. At least FFXIII can be counted as an RPG.'

Is that a justified opinion? No. That's basically what you said. Fine say you didn't like the beginning but there is no way you can generalise the entire game.

Also as you only got to the shopping mall, you didn't meet any of the other main characters bar ethan, so unlikeable characters? Bullshit.

Again you didn't play hardly any of the game, so little gameplay? Of course there's little you only played a little. You were at the beginning of the game.

Terrible pacing? See the fact you were at the beginning of the game. Again unjustified.

With your logic I'm guessing you hate RPGs. Also most games get better as they progress, Heavy Rain or otherwise.

This looks to be a really fun game, And there is no dobut the facial animations are dop notch. Every wrinkle and every dimple well defined. In fact the facial animations are a little more well done then even Heavy Rain.

My only complaint, however, is the fact their skin looks very plastic like, light doesn't seem to be absorbed well, like no one in the 1940s had any oil in their skin. I know its based on system limitations, got only so much room and processing power before its too much to handle. I might wait a week or two to see the general concensis about the game, and if there are any game breaking bugs from launch, if all is green I might pick up a copy.

Here's a problem with some of what I'm hearing based on what i'm reading in this thread. Many seem to be judging the standard of the new tech that quantic dream is working on based on the quality of graphics/animations in their previous game (which I happen to actually like) which did not use said technology. Or at least that's wat i'm gathering here as many seem to be bringing up heavy rain as a reason that quantic dream's new tech isn't going to be good. Seems like a poor argument to me.

"blurs the lines" between video games and movies, I see what he did there...

We'll never get anything "realistic" on a ps3 or 360, the facial animations look good but when everything else is so dated it just looks weird.
