"The prosecution in the case admitted that Handley did not have a criminal history and wasn't in possession of any actual child pornography, but argued that the material had no "arguable scientific, literary, artistic or political value" and was "clearly obscene."

A person's individual property (a rock or a pencil or a comic book) is not subject to public qualification or requiring of scientific, literary, artistic or political value. Unless any actual child or animal was actually harmed in the making of those comics, why should it matter to anyone what's inside them? Is the man an offender of law which deals with action rather than thought-crime-by-proxy? Was he displaying this material publically?

Imaginary lines drawn in fictional sand to decide what unreal thing is acceptable and what unreal thing is not, then dragging citizens through hell because they found themselves on the wrong side of them strikes me as a gross perversion of liberty.

Still, if he broke a law, then there's no getting past that, laws should be obeyed, even bad ones. But bad laws should be challenged and struck down wherever possible, and this one smells rotten.

That and the greeks and romans sure did love the butt sex. A guy who did another guy in the butt was considered very manly. Not to mention all the fairy tales. Snow white was like 12 when she got knocked up (seriously, look up the original text)
Wait wait wait...snow white gets knocked up?o_O Is it by the dwarves?I need to know more!
The prince finds her while she's dead/asleep and basically date rapes her. It's very hard to find the original text because the Grimm brothers never published it and the version that did finally get out was already edited because all the incest and rape conflicted with christian morals.

Good riddance to the lawbreaker. Down with pedophilia and bestiality!
He wasn't viewing pedophilic or bestiality porn. He was viewing drawings. Drawings that harmed no one.

Good thing I don't live in the US.
I'd rather move to Japan!
.......Did you just call animated child porn artwork?
Pixels. That's all. No one got harmed. If it were actual children I'd be outraged.
Fair enough. I just don't think that it's normal for people to "collect" cartoon porn, especially if it's child cartoon porn.
Understandable. Though every individual has a different definition of normal when it comes to sex. What you dig I might find disgusting and what I dig you might find disgusting. Though it's not 100% for certain that this individual was getting his jollies from the material. He could just be a collector of rare hentai?
Maybe some of the details were left out Maybe he collected ALL forms of anime, but just so happened to have porn?

Prove that it is not.
Prove that it is.
I believe I already linked to a 5 foot statue of an anime man ejaculating a literal lasso of semen; a statue that sold for 15 million dollars.
..........What the fuck is wrong with people?

You can argue back and forth all you want but the truth is this is just a moral ruling. The courts can make up whatever the fuck they want about the reasoning but in the end it's just that some people didn't like his taste...
You've just described every criminal court case in the United States.

P.S.

I'm going to guess from your terrible grammar and spelling, lack of argument and use of a political party name as a pseudo-insult that you're a 14 year old who's feeling very superior right now for no reason. I'm an independent by the way because I don't side overtly with either the conservatives or the liberals because both are prone to myopia.

So, unless you can actually give a definition of what kind of liberalism and what kind of Conservatism you're talking about, because there are dozens of each, I think it's going to seem like you have no idea what you're talking about and are now running away because someone called you out.

I may not agree with you on all points, but good lord do I love your posts.

I've seen a bunch of teens rape and destroy a girls life get off with no jail time. But this guy has to go to jail and have his life taken away from him for something like this? Justice is amazing.
Justice is blind. Heard it somewhere.

Anyone got the numbers on convicted predators who are out on parole?
And how much money did they tax us to bag a guy with a sick porn collection?
How many arrests or child searches would that be?

In fact, why doesn't that court petition Japan to BOLSTERRAPE CHARGES and PUNISHMENT, or the Islamic women's rights groups? They need MORE "help" than this guy, what a joke. He will get therapy he has to pay THEM for, they clearly don't know how to budget funds.

The legal system is getting pretty lazy, picking the low fruit and hoping people don't notice. I saw 1984, I read Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World is in my library...for now.

Not all molesters are paedophiles.
Not all paedophiles are molesters.

All I am suggesting is that people that are proven to be paedophiles are made to recieve help from support groups/therapy. It does them no harm, it can only do good, and it has the added bonus of being a preventative measure against paedophiles who can't control their urges.

I honestly can't see what the issue is here. Not everyone with an uncontrolable temper is going to assault or kill someone, I should know. But when someone displays excessive amounts of aggression, is it such a bad idea to get them counselling?

Plenty of people would sentence all paedophiles to death, molesters or not. I'm finding the middle ground here, unlike those people, I understand that its not something they can just stop being, that doesn't mean they can't be helped.
If this had been a kid, who had drawn up plans for a school shooting, would this still be an argument? They're just drawings, we don't know that he'd act on it... Its still evidence that he needs help.

justice is blind...

my aching ass

I don't agree with the kind of stuff that guy is looking at but this is bullshit and everybody knows it crimes that hurt nobody are not crimes...

Wait a sec didn't the postal service break a law because unless their was harm to a person what they did is illegal by going through his mail... I don't really know..

Agreed.
I 3rd this.

I mean, we all know this falls under a whole load of controversial arguments, but in the end, it's just a couple of old people sending a dude to jail because they think his cartoons went to far.
Ironic this happened in the states of all places.
Not really. Look at our ban on Pot. Started because a media giant feared that hemp would endanger his paper business so he slandered it till the public demanded it be outlawed. Even now, when we know all the stuff he claimed was bull the overt moral assholes refuse to overturn it because "It was what mah parents taught me".
wont start a huge argument here, but even though its obvious pot was made illegal mainly cause of some sigarette companies, we all (should) know that pot is dangerous in large doses (like most medical substances). problem with pot is that you dont get the hangover before 2-3 days after, meaning you will do WAAAY over "healthy" portions of it if you have it availible, damaging your brain (dont remember exactly what parts, but side effects are chronic migraines, loss of concentration and docileness)

so pot wouldve still been a "hospital only" medicine, even if it werent for the lies that made it illegal
Cig companies my help keep it Illegal but it was Hearst and Yellow Journalism that MADE it illegal.

http://www.drugwarrant.com/articles/why-is-marijuana-illegal/

You'll note that cig companies don't show up once in that. The reality of it is that cig companies would just sell Marijuana Cigs if they were legal. The reason for the illegality of pot is complex but is focused mainly around racism toward mexicans at the time and yellow journalism.

As per the potential problems of course there are potential problems for over use, but there are potential hazards for the over consumption of alcohol and fat but that stops no one.

That and Carl Sagan was an active pot head who repeatedly sang it's praises. Its not really related but it sure flies in that face of the idea of pot heads as lazy idiots. Personally, I don't smoke or drink but I think we should respect the rights of people to do so.

It's hard to since it's been heavily edited over the years. This
http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/grimm053.html

Is the edited one that appeared in the Grimm tales but it's still not the original. It does include them torturing someone to death though. Like I said, it's very hard to find the original text. I only saw it once many years ago in some book about the evolution and censorship of myths. If you look hard enough you can probably find it.

They should have given him a warning or something before destroying his life and treating him like a convicted pedophile.
well he essentially is. he is convicted, with possession of child pornography of some sort. regardless. it is illegal in every sense. so honestly he kinda had it coming to him.
