The problem is that it looks more like a Saints Row trailer (Hell the Assassin's are even called "The Saints") than a Hitman trailer. The problem is NOT that a woman gets her face smashed in, the problem is that she's in fetish gear as opposed to regular clothing.
Yeah I have to admit when I saw them at first I thought "Battle Nuns? Well it's an effective disguise, you can probably hide some weapons in the outfit, it puts targets at ease it's reasonable to say they'd make good assasins" Then then outfits came off and the RPGs came out and the trailer looked less like it was for a subtle assasination game and more like a boring and bland third person shooter with some done to death gimic like bullet time.

It really is incredible how most guys just don't get why something like this is sexist. It goes a long way towards explaining why casual, mindless sexism still exists.

The trailer is about a large group of personality-and-identity-free scantily clad women being beaten, choked, and shot to death by a large well-dressed white man. They even provide a scene of him getting himself ready in the bathroom, in order to humanize him. The women are, of course, pure fap material and largely interchangeable. They are dressed in ways to make their profession totally impractical and nothing they do makes any logical sense, so it's a bit like violence porno.

If you cannot see the problem with the glorification of ruthless violence committed on sexualized, dehumanized women, then you are a little behind on your societal sensitivity, my friend.

Yes, a lot of games involve of killing hordes of men. Yes, a lot of those men tend to be faceless drones served up for murder. But ask yourself this: how many of them are depicted in such a way as to give you an erection while you're killing them?

It's dumb, it's insulting, and really, we *should* be way past this. The fact that we clearly are *not* is the problem, gents. Get yourself some class and get with the zeitgeist before it runs you over.

My bad. It seems I misspelled heroine, but that is a female hero, which is also wrong. I blame lack of sleep.
I doubt he has a stab-proof vest since he has always been the kind of assassin that kills a target without threat of retaliation, or kills multiple targets so fast that he doesn't have to worry about being stabbed. Seeing this kind of combat is just weird.
He should though, things can always go wrong, it doesn't hurt to be prepared. If he can be attacked by a bunch of women in sexy nun outfits then pretty much anything can happen.

Oh dear. I feel I should be making more of an effort to care, but at the same time I think my apathy is the only thing stopping me from being dragged headlong into what is fast shaping up to be a flamewar.

I hope the game's good though.

I think that's going to need a little more clarification. I just read their comic and accompanying text on the matter and it doesn't seem like they take a side in it, besides making fun of the whole thing. They certainly don't defend the trailer, if that's what you're implying.

What I took from their newspost was that the trailer is pretty stupid, but Hitman trailers tend to be and that it is no reflection of the medium as a whole that one design team made one stupid segment in one game.

Maybe I'm a sexist pig but this just doesn't offend me.

I think the "controversy" would be worse if the assassins were male. Just picture them as a group of monks. The camera stares lovingly at their butts, they take off their habits and put plastic balls in their mouths. They are wearing just a few strips of latex, the camera zooms in on their hanging genitals and muscular chests...as they are being brutally killed.

Let's make another virtually identical trailer, only with a female Agent 47 and male monks wearing bondage gear under their robes, and all will be well.

Is it me, or does the left nun sort of looks like....a love doll...?

Those shines, those distant looking eyes and those large lips...he got attacked by a scantly clad nun and a blowup doll wearing a nun suit?

I would have to agree. Your protagonist is a contract killer. These aren't generally nice people, not the sort of people you root for. I just watched the trailer that this was based on and I'm kind of dumbfounded as to put in to words how fucking stupid that was. I played the first hitman when it came out and it was kind of fun, in a morbidly interesting way, but this is like a combination of that game and saints row, just bursting with pixels of idiocy.

They certainly went a long way to avoid condemning it, and taken in conjunction with the Dickwolves-fiasco and Gabe's pathetic defence of the rape simulator, a pattern emerges. Honestly, they keep missing the point so profusely, one must wonder if this is some elaborate prank at the expense of feminists and feminist allies everywhere.

"The answer is always more art; the corollary to that is the answer is never less art."

Yes, less rapey art can NEVER be a good thing.

Considering that the entire basis of this game is to skillfully murder people, I'd stay that person at IGN has their wires crossed.

Also, considering that some of Agent 47's previous missions have involved obese butchers at fetish parties, porn barons at christmas shindigs, and anarchists in bird costumes, this isn't even the oddest thing I've seen in a Hitman game.
Yes, but so far the entire concept of Hitman has been skillful, pragmatic, and intelligent murder. The eyebrow-raising characters in previous games were always part of a legitimately seedy scenario. The stripper angels were placed in a sex club, the christmas shindig was at a porn baron's hideout, and the fat butcher was at an underground fetish/night club.
Without explanation this is nothing more than the umpteenth variation of "chain mail bikini and stiletto heels" being taken seriously as combat attire.

It might not be the oddest thing to feature in a Hitman game, but coming from a series that always has been about intelligent execution it certainly is the most worrisome.

As to the series having a track record of fetishizing violence: guilty as charged. Heck, it's a game centered around finding creative ways to stealthily (and quite likely: brutally) murder your targets. It's really not going to dodge that claim.

Now that would be something you'd expect in a Hitman game.
