When I was a kid, it was always fun to say, "I was born on a pirate ship with a bunch of dirty apples," whilst fish hooking the corners of your mouth. Apparently, I'm as immature now as I was then.

I played the game Okami and have a habit of putting dark in front of usernames, then later I found out that susanoo was a god of storms(?).

Random name generator on WOW when i was making my name came up with Corthe. I changed it to Corthea but realized most people thought it was supposed to be pronounced cor-thee when I meant it to be cor-they-ah so I added the Y.

My dad once told me he would've liked my older brother to be named John-joe but my mother wouldn't let him(though it would've been awesome!)..
I think it sounds like a parrots name.. If that makes any sense..

Crawford Tillinghast was a pen-name I went under, based off of a character with the same name from a short story by H.P. Lovecraft. He was a guy who basically created a device which allowed him to see that which dogs bark at and cats prick up their ears towards in the midnight.

He also saw strange, elementary physics defying jellyfish, and a force that could give people seizures if they looked at it.

It became "Crowghast" when my friends would always pronounce "Crawford" (CrAH-Ferd) as CrOH-FORD. I realized that "Crowghast" sounded way cooler.

And here we are today.

I'd used several names over the course of the years. I just liked how this one sounded, and decided to use it on all my various accounts on the internet.

I was sick of my names always been taken so abbbout 10ish years ago I had a random flick through a dictionary and I found Acaroid
some dictionarys say it is a type of resin.... the dictionary I was reading when I found it says it is comes from the latin word acarus
and means 'Shaped like or resembling a tick or mite.'

why did I pick it?

Because Im sure no one else would XD

so if you see an Acaroid in a game etc, a good chance it is me...

Heh...I make up nicknames for all the characters in the games I play. When I was playing FFXII, Vaan was puppy dog because I thought his hair looked like anime dog ears...stupid, I know.

And of course I tried it, and laughed my ass off. How the hell did I MISS that!?!? My youth was wasted...

When I was six I needed a name for my email address. At that time I was addicted to Lego (The toy) so I fused Lego, and holic (to be addicted) thus ending up with legoholic.

Its a reference to Stephen Kings "The Dark Tower" series. That's it, but based on the number of people who either don't get it or have never read the book it think it unique enough.

Hmm. I made it up when I was picking an XBL name.
My nickname in high school was G Ro (not very imaginative; it is the first letter of my first name and the first two of my last, which is apparently my "thug name")
And then grok, as in to share another being's line of thought or perception (from Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert Heinlein)
I wanted it to be GroKker, but that name was taken on XBL.
So, I changed the Kk to an x and added an s to make it look like boxers, I guess.

Well, there's people in Germany who (for whatever reason) think it's cool to wear their socks over their pants. We call these people "Socken Gangster", which basically means "sock gangster" (surprise, surprise).
So when my character in an MMO I played got namelocked (the name was Hartcor Gettogangs Ter, was a char made to just fuck around with), I renamed him "Socken-Ganxter" (for those who care, the game is Tibia and the server is Astera).

And thus I was called Socken from this day forth.
