I usually work my mind to exhaustion and not sleep, because it's when I've stayed awake for a long time I get these flashes of complete clarity in my head, with all these concepts connecting to one another, just staring into the void. Then I feel good, and go to sleep.

Like right now.

sleeping has not been on the schedual for a while.
but only because after waking up at noon everyday for a week and then needing to get up at seven therity to get to school for eight. does not really mesh together.

but usually I put on a podcast of people talking. it is very soothing.

For me, I usually walk around a lot so that my body is exhausted when its time for bed. My roommate once got a medicine prescription that had "Drowsiness" as a side effect and he took advantage of it.

I went to the doctor when I was in college for sleeping problems. It seems the "Don't" list is just as important as to "to do" list.

Don't eat within the hour or two before you go to bed. Even if you sleep, the quality will
suffer.
Don't play video games from bed or work in bed.
Don't smoke cigs before going to bed.
Don't EXERCISE right before bed. This gets your blood flowing and wakes you up.

Theres more, but those are the ones that stand out in my mind.

IF I start thinking about abd things, i cant sleep

So I do the opposite of what my parents tell me and PLAY GAMES LIKE MAD before going to bed. Im still in the game (or thinking about the funny parts) and despite this apparently keeping you awake, it helps me sleep.

Though you need a funny game, so I play l4d 20 player versus. Its very funny.

Don't play video games before going to bed. It's the absolute worst thing to do. Your brain is creating new neural pathways that are a result of learning how to accomplish something and remembering details, which is what video games enforce best. High cerebral activity is often the cause of a bad night's sleep. Always read a book for an hour before bed, and not a boring one, since you'll want to stop reading. Wanting to read a book and dozing off while doing so is a good way to fall asleep. Sleeping patterns affect success of sleep as well. Waking up at midday may make it impossible for you to fall asleep. Sucks to wake up early but do it anyway as it saves frustration at night and ultimately you'll be less tired than after a sleepless one. When all is said and done, I often fail to fall asleep for a long time. One of the downsides to playing video games, unfortunately.

Is your mind overly-active at night? Is that the reason? Too many thoughts?

I was told that's a sign of either intelligence or creativity.

I am one of those people who have a lot of trouble sleeping. What are some ways that help someone get to sleep faster, or more comfortably?
I'm sorry if anyone finds this offensive, or if it appears I am being blatantly realistic but... Has anyone noticed how it is frequently gamers who have trouble sleeping? I think it's because most gamers play games all day and especially before they go to sleep, this would cause your mind to be active and full of things that had happened prior. Also it is quite common that gamers often have inside jobs that require little to no exercise, and when they go home they often start playing games, can you see the problem with this? Well the problem is that they get no exercise and exercise is great when you need to sleep because it help makes your body tired. If you play games all day, and your job or profession requires little to no physical effort to be done well than you will still have a lot of stored energy for when you go to sleep.

So in conclusion, if you want to get to sleep easier than stop playing video games, watching television, listening to powerful music and anything that will help keep your mind or body alert for at least an hour before your designated sleeping time. Also it would be most prudent if you took at least an hour a day to do some exercise, and I don't mean walking to work or school, like push ups, sit ups and anything similar. Or getting a hobby which forces a lot of physical work would be good to.

Most of what I just recommended might seem superfluous to some people, but try it for a week or two, I guarantee some positive results when you try to go to sleep.

Does this smell like chloroform to you?

Usually works.
I lol'ed

What I do is actually watch something on TV, can't really sleep without it. Try watching something kind of boring but not enough to lose your interest. Usually puts me right out.

OT: I wouldn't know how to help you. I usually only sleep around 6-8 hours a night. I really should go earlier to bed, but the internet needs me.

Sleeping next to a nice girl, they're really warm and comforting like man sized teddies. Providing you don't talk to each other all night you'll have a wonderful nap time.
Don't know what to do if your a girl though :/

Lying on my side, curled up, facing the wall, always helps for me. That, and having one foot outside the covers... :) Hope it helps!

Drink a little whiskey, have an orgasm, and breathe slowly.

I use an mix of mantras, podcasts, and alcohol, in order of seriousness of need to sleep.
