Yay! I'm "the hypnotoad guy".

Also: The update by url is great for people too lazy to upload. [sub]like me[/sub] Makes it easier. Easy to do = gets done more

And someone stole my motherfucking avatar once. Haven't seen 'em since.

I make my ones myself (except this one that is a tv clip). There are a few repeats and thefts, but we like to be different.

One of my earlier avatars was a Hey Arnold one (yeah, no cat, big shock there, right?). When I saw some other guy having a nearly identical one, I decided to change it into another old cartoon I didn't see anyone else use... SWAT Kats.

Some time after I changed from my Razer avatar, I saw someone else take up a T-Bone avatar (the other SWAT Kat). I haven't seen anyone use the Pizza Cats yet though, so I think my last avatar isn't going to be copied.
Actually, I'm sure they won't, the main reason I changed from Swat Kats was because of the amount of PMs I got from people asking what cartoon that was.

Currently I have a Space Cats avatar. I'm pretty sure nobody remembers that show. Heck, googling it doesn't give you many good images. I had to go to YouTube and take a screenshot of the only video that had a decent shot of one of the cats.

We all know that's because you shot them. After hypnotizing them with your toadly awesomeness.

Also, it probably helps that you're "the hypnotoad guy" on other forums and interweb places as well.

Well, people want to make sure they dont copy for one thing, and it just shows what a diverse community we are. All hail the Escapist!

As forums go, the escapist is pretty diverse, due to this people have many different interests and beliefs, which leads to many different avatars.

Even if two people have avatars from the same game or about the same subject, the chance that they're identical is unlikely

Although I do recall one time when two users had the same avatar of a squirrel with a gun

I randomly noticed you being on GamesRadar the other day, so I figured you'd be The Hypnotoad Guy elsewhere as well. Because, well, I realized it was you from it being The Hypnotoad. Before seeing the name.

I use this avatar on all forums I post on, just as I use this screen name on them all. Despite my consistency, I've only ever had one person PM me saying "Hey, are you the Pinstar from this other board?"

For me, one of the great things about the escapist is that everbody has a very distinct "face" that anybody can instantly identify with. You can instantly tell, it's the hpynotoad guy that comments on every forum! The cat girl doing... something. Its that toon thing with the blue shirt and red hat that always is asking stupid questions! But why is it we have so few repeats? While 99% of the photos have been something from popular culture, they rarely overlap in use. I know like the Guru has been used at least twice, and somebody is using a back shot of that woman Suasan uses as her avatar, and many people use stuff from Zero Punctuation, but those cases are reletively rare. How can a site as big as the Escapist have so few doubles and so much distiction with everybody?
I was absolutely certain nobody else had my avie, since I literally took a picture of the source material (Yahtzee's Zero Punctuation review of Halo Wars) mere hours after the video was posted. :p

That said, I did not choose my avatar based on trying to be "unique". On the contrary, I wanted a ZP-themed avie precisely beacuse it seemed like it would really fit for the Escapist forum as there were other people using them as well.

EDIT: Also, I would say that it is an unwritten rule in general on any forum not to have an avie that is the same as that of another person. It just makes it easier to identify a specific user.

My old avatar is the one I use in most places, which is actually why I decided to look for something different to use here. A Yoruichi picture with different-from-normal eyes and some other details is still very close to the character theme I have in mind (Shjade's theme, not Yoruichi's, though a couple of friends have pointed out to me how much they have in common), but I won't be completely surprised if I see someone else with a similar one sometime.

Mine is just one of the standard ones you get from this site, under the matrix section. I think I must be the only person boring enough to use it.

Did you just call Wakko "that toon with the blue shirt and red hat,"?

Tsk, tsk, good sir. Tsk. Tsk.

OT: It's because we're all so awesome and special.

Yes there is such a place
Shameless self advertisement.

OT: I just love Toradora! and not many people like that show enough to have avatars of it....

But I do...

Also, lots of people don't even know what it is...
I have a gif of Taiga attacking Ryuuji with her sword. :D
I would use it.

But since I stole the name I usually use from FF7(I was young back then!), I use this scan of my "Game On" ticket at acmi.

Also: I hear that if you steal more than 3 avatars then al gore comes out of your mirror and kicks you off his tubes!

individuality is important when your faceless otherwise. also, the internet is full of loads of funny cult images so there's enough for all. if anyone takes my avatar i'll be a bit creeped out cos it's me...that would be wierd.

I seem to be an exception, before Scott Pilgrim over there, i had a cuddly version of Rorschach a gunshow webcomic ( http://gunshowcomic.com/d/20090313.html third panel), and before that, the famous Bloody GIR from Invader Zim:

I've seen both images used around here. Not that i'm angry or anything (why should i, both images were stolen in the most blatant way possible), it's just i can't seem to make my little picture on the side unique enough...

I like to think people see my avatar and take me more seriously. Though I doubt I'm of the forum fame you associate with Hubilub, or NeonBob.
