Decapitate him and slice the rest of his body into 5 pieces (Arms, legs, torso) before throwing each piece into separate volcano's.
but what if you ended up with 6 angry Wolverines? you wouldnt even get him to one volcano.

He can't die. In one of the comics they cut his head off, took his brain out and put the head in an oxygen-less box. He went into a coma state, but was still alive. His power is survival. He can take anything the world throws at him.
He survived a nuke at one point and rebuilt his entire body from less than dust. So I wouldn't kill Wolverine, I'd try and make friends with him so he doesn't kill me.

Tie him down with some nice strong chains that stay out of the way of his claws, then hand him over to a crematorium and get them to cook him at gas mark 50 for 36 hours, then before he has a chance to regenerate any ligaments or tendons, separate the adamantium-coated bones and encase them in concrete.
Wolverine survived the equivalent of a nuke blast, and regenerated from nothing but a skeleton. I don't think that'll work...

Bind him with heavy chains and weights and dump him over the Marianas Trench. If the lack of oxygen didn't kill him, the freezing water or crushing pressure would, or at least keep him from escaping.

The same way you kill the T1000, full body immersion in molten metal until his brain cooks in his adamantium skull.

Arm myself with a coathanger, hop into a time machine and pay a visit to his mom.

create a wolverine made entirely from anti-protons and positrons, and get him to give the real one a hug.

Then hide behind 3 km of lead shielding.

Since the 'fire him into the sun/black hole' idea is already gone, I'll go with .22 Vibranium bullets. Why a .22? The bullet wouldn't leave his head, just ricochet around inside, but never leaving, so when he regenerates the bullet would be blocking major parts of his brain just by their presence alone. Oh, he'd be alive, but severely brain-damaged to the point where he's no longer a threat. Of course I'd never trust just a single bullet to do the trick, so just to be sure, I'd double/triple/quadruple/quintuple/sextuple... -tap just so you know that his brain would never function again properly. Wolverine wouldn't be a threat if he was a vegetable lying on a bed after I empty three full magazines of .22's into his head.

Or you could shoot him with a bullet loaded with the Life Eater Virus from Warhammer 40k just to see what would win: Wolverine's regeneration or the virus specifically designed to turn organic matter into flammable/explosive goo & gas.

I'm going to show how nerdy I am.

Wolverine has been killed and resurrected by Gorgon, and Gorgon just beat him the old fashioned way. To death. Gorgon was beyond normal superhuman, though. According to Sabretooth (who has similar healing), drowning would kill them. Any sort of suffocation should work. Also, when surgery needs to be done on him, they can insert an extremely high radiation capsule to use up his body's healing. Thus, if that was inserted, then he could be killed much easier. Of course, how well he can heal is different in every story line, I'm just talking normal. Xavier could probably kill him instantly; I don't know if Wolverine can heal from mental blocks. Rogues power could kill him; utilize her. There was a girl that had a healing power similar to Wolverine's, and Sabretooth just killed her the normal way. I think that in one show, Magneto's daughter was able to nullify mutant powers. Hurling him into a volcano might work, but he'd have to either be unconscious or pass out from the heat, otherwise there's a chance he could crawl out. And it'd have to be an active volcano.

Of course, there's ways to straight out cheat, like time traveling to when he was a child before his powers were active. I don't know if "Death" exists in the Marvel universe. Temperatures high enough to melt adamantium should work. Cold temperatures might...but there's know way to know if the healing factor would keep him alive after he was defrosted (as we don't fully understand the nature of his power.

A couple of points: To the person who claims it takes a long time for their brains to recover: sometimes this is true, especially in older comics, but in MOST newer comics, the regeneration is much faster, unless something special is done to the brain. Maybe it's possible to hit the part that is responsible for healing?

Someone said that adamantium can pierce adamantium. This might be true, but it's hard enough that you'd probably need super strength to do it. So..I wouldn't try to physically stab him using his own claws yourself. Also, when he has an adamantium skeleton, he has minor super strength, so normal humans cannot overpower him (unless it's convenient for the plot).

Angry Flashlight, that's a good idea, but if you turned him into a vegetable like that, you better have some awesome security. Because if his friends ever find him (using methods like teleportation and telepathic searches encompassing the entire world), they can easily get those bullets out. Also, if you fail to destroy either his ability to do basic reasoning or his ability to stay conscious (or his motor functions), he can take the bullets out himself. Also, how sure are we that his body doesn't automatically remove objects? That is, he's immune to poison and disease, so it's not like his power is just putting itself back together. He can't even get drunk as his body cleanses and disperses the liquid to quickly. We don't know the extents to his healing factor...

The flammable goo thing sounds interesting to me in ways that I should probably see my therapist about.
