I think it's mainly just that it's seen as 'edgy' and 'alternative' nowadays. But it's become so prevalent that it's really just hackneyed and irritating.
Definitely. What's needed is a edgy and alternative approach to the "Humans are Dicks" idea.

I once read a science fiction story where Humanity is making first contact with a previously unknown species. Every precaution is made to hide humanity's savage ways from said aliens, lest they shun and hate us. Every effort is made to present humanity as a shining and benevolent force dedicated to peace and prosperity...only to discover that the aliens are doing the same thing, and hiding a much more brutal history mere humans could dream of.

Humanity has me, thus it rocks.

I'd like to complain more about half breeds and why they're SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo much better than their parent race. Does anybody else remember how genetics WORK? If not, study up on the mule...
Yeah, losing that extra feat isn't really worth the minor skill boosts and extra low-light vision.

Also, aren't mongrel dogs 'better' than the purebreeds? At least in the case of show dogs vs. shephard dogs, as I recall. Or maybe I'm talkin' bollocks. It's been years since I even looked at a piece on genetics.

Dogs are all the same species (canis familiaris) just different breeds. I used mules due to them being a cross of different species: donkeys (equus africanus asinus) and horses (equus farus caballus).

SCIENCE!!!

Honestly I'm liking the whole 'humans are crap' persuasion because I am so sick of the cookie cutter story of aliens automatically being evil and humans being the good guys. While I think it is unfair to also make humans entirely evil, taking an honest look back at our history I think it's safe to say we are capable of commiting some great atrocities. However I like a story with moral ambiguity, where not all humans are evil and neither are all aliens. That would be an interesting twist.
Speaking of, I still count dwarves and elves as essentially human because they still look human. I like to think of Lizardmen and Orcs and stuff as examples of non humans and it would be nice if they weren't always typecast as evil.

Also, humans are forever inferior to the Sangheili/fact
This post reminds me of the new movie coming out called planet 51. If we went to another planet then WE would be considered the aliens. I would wager too that we would screw up that meeting by invading the planet and or taking some of the aliens for our own experiments (which in turn would piss off the "aliens").
