Bots would be a good idea! They really need more. I suggest for people wanting to start in online FPS gaming to play objective based matches. You are more reliant (in theory) on team work and you can learn the game better.

Wugga, I got CoD4 at Xmas and proudly said in my first game that I had gotten it. I was immediately called a "Christmas Newb". I proceeded to get about 24~ish kills with 15 deaths. #1 on my team and we won the match. May not have been the best players either, but still, win. I had never played a CoD game online before and only briefly tried CoD2.

I would recommend Social Objectives or Social Big Team in Halo 3 or games like Sabotage or Headquarters for CoD4. I rarely play Deathmatch because that's where the hooting .... (think Yahtzee terms) tend to play.

Bioshock
Mass Effect
Assassin's Creed
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Dead Rising

Grand Theft Auto IV
Crackdown
Burnout Paradise
Battlefield: Bad Company
Gears of War
Call of Duty 4

The first 5 games are single player only, and are fantastic.

The latter 6 games have multiplayer modes, but also have high quality singe player modes. You will never get old of Grand Theft Auto IV.

I have no problem with games working in their Live multiplayer. I just get furious when they actively hurt the local multiplayer. For example, COD 4 has 4 player split screen. It also has LAN capability. It DOES NOT, though, allow 4 player split screen with its system link games. So until you have five 360s, five copies of COD 4 and an Ethernet hub with the necessary cat 5 cables you aren't getting any more players than you could get from a single 'box, and a single copy.

I think it's a fad right now, but eventually it's going to be essential for gmaes to have multiplayer if it isn't already.

The biggest examples of the multiplayer syndrome is (to my knowledge) Resistance 2 and MAG with those two (especially the latter) focusing heavily on multiplayer.

Ever since the Halo 2 days (i'm excusing Halo 1 because MP was introduced after it) multiplayer almost always has to contribute to the game for it to excuse the single player experience (See: Halo 3)

Multiplayer is fine to me, it adds to the repeatability, but when a company focuses its time on multiplayer instead of single player (Like Insomniac I heard, single player is awesome in their games) then that's where i have a problem.

Unfortunately, there are also people who buy a game just for the multiplayer (My friend comes to mind, he says that the single player for every game he buys sucks except for sports games) so those people are what make the companies make multiplayer.

I'm not sure if i contributed, but that's my 2 cents on this.

It's funny you say that, since after the second week of purchase I've never even thought about playing GTA IV again.

There isn't a difficulty curve Peter Molyneux has stated he doesn't want to limit the player a Lv 50 can go kill all the Lv 1's monsters for him no problem.

How is Banjo Kazooie not casual with the E rating cartoon characters and simple platforming/vehicles.
You're just so ignorant that that doesn't even deserve an answer. Also I didn't even understand that first sentence.

Well theres the ps3 which is free-online:p but thats like 8 years of paying for live.
If I can't afford a hard drive, a wireless router, and a gold account, what makes you think I can afford a PS3? >_>

Okay, it's starting to sound like I'm just complaining about being too poor. No, that's not it. I really want to know why developers think everyone wants to play with their friends. Or that they have friends to play with. Where have all the good single-player games gone?
I can totally agree with you. I personally have online, but I enjoy a good single player game more than anything else. I hate it when game developers say "but online is teh betterz".
NO.
Shut up.
Online can make a great game better.
It does not make a shit game good.
I hate the fact that there are so few games that focus on Single Player before online.
On a side note, Check out Bioshock, Bad Company, and Mass Effect.

here here!

The metriod prime series i enjoyed. And it didnt have multiplayer (I dont count mp2 as a multiplayer game :p) It had a great story line to it, and some pretty unique levels and areas.
Thing i like about valve, is that they make a game thats strictly single player, then make a game thats strictly multiplayer. They have 2 teams working on 2 different games. But i will say that the quality of single player games have diminished some

I really have no idea what the OP is even talking about.. I have so many single player games sitting here I literally can't play through them fast enough.

When a game comes out and is heavily multi-player focused, that's the marketing department doing the decision making. Not the developer. If you want to tell at anybody, yell at them.

As for me.. I don't play only the top 10 mainstream video games, so I don't have this problem.

To the various people suggesting ethernet cables: As previously stated, my current situation prevents me from using anything but wireless.
To the guy who suggest "I hate all 360 games and should have gotten a Wii": I have a Wii, but the majority of games for it aren't exactly what you'd call fantastic (Brawl is the main game I use it for.). And the only game I remember specifically saying I didn't like was Bioshock. CoD4 was a good game, it just could have been better if they had focused more on the signle player and not the multiplayer.

And to this list:
Bioshock - Like I said, played it, thought it was lame.
Mass Effect - Watched my friend play it, it wasn't all that exciting.
Assassin's Creed - I'm looking into this game, though again the problem is a lack of funds.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Not really into RPG's.
Dead Rising - I've heard a lot of good things about this game, and I really should look into it. I just haven't.

Grand Theft Auto IV - Have it, love it.
Crackdown - Admittedly I'm not sure what this game is about.
Burnout Paradise - I already have Burnout 3 and while this is supposedly better, one racing game with fantastic crashes is good enough for me. The next racing game I'm going to get is Grid, if any.
Battlefield: Bad Company - Was looking at this game, too, but again, Lack of funds.
Gears of War - See above, but add in everyone I talk to either loves it or hates it. No in between.
Call of Duty 4 - Own it. Got boring after the first two times played through.

So there's...Maybe three or four games on that list I should look into once I get some money, which is great. It'll keep me occupied for a while. But again, it's not about me. Four games with great single player compared to god knows how many with great online. It's just ridiculous. That's all I'm saying.

Despite the bad rep that Metroid Prime: Hunters has, I at least think they got the multiplayer right in allowing you to play multiplayer modes with bots instead of humans. It's not the same, but it's better than nothing, at least.

single player games are my only option. Of course there aren't any of those. (None that are good, anyway.) :|
if you can't find good single player games and cant afford to get online, stop playing videogames. they're meant to be fun, not a topic in which people get so bent out of shape about that their heads might explode from stress.

anyway, since you have an xbox 360 and want to play good single player games, you should buy some titles for the original xbox. there a lot of games made for single player on it like Knights of the Old Republic, Fable, etc. that is unless you've already played those

I have the Arcade. :|

Though Fable is amazing. I got the PC version. (Of course that was back when I had a computer that could handle games)

Also, your name reminds me of Biolizard.

It goes both ways. When a game comes out with no online multiplayer it gets cussed down by the gaming community.

Man. Pc games are totally made for people with a mouse. For those who don't have a mouse, like me, pc games suck. I wish developers would make more games for people without mice.

So it seems you'll need a 20g HDD which would be 60$..But then again thats almost a certainty the more games you play.

So 60$ for a HDD

10$ Ethernet 50ft cord.

And 60$ for live for a year..

Buy a 20g hdd one month then life the next?

I have a laptop too, and I have a mouse. Just go pick up a 40 dollar wireless mouse.

Excellent advice here. Do you have GameFly or a similar service where you live? If you're just playing the single-player campaign, it'll give you more worth for your games.

At any rate, I think your complaints are unfounded. Someone suggested eleven games with good single player and even though you shot down most of them you still have like five good games that you're playing or plan to play. And that's not just a splinter of games with good online because games with good online are just as rare. For each game that was designed with focus on online and single player as an afterthought there's also the opposite, and maybe only one of them is good because that's what the designers were focusing on.

Me, I don't have Live. Too much hassle to pull a wire all the way to where my console is and not worth putting down wireless. Plus I'm in Brazil and I'd need to do something to have it run here that I'm not quite sure what it is and is probably not worth the trouble either. And I don't complain. My GameFly analogue's list had almost 20 games, which would take me over a year to play through in a conservative estimate.

I wouldn't call putting the word "Loading" in tiny font size in the corner of the screen and filling the rest up with an animated background a cover up of load times.

But it's worth it when the rest of the game is fuckin awesome.
It's a testament to the greatness of the game that I never got up during the 3 minute install times.

...Shadow, did you come here really looking for help or to just ***** and moan?

Honestly we've all thrown a boat load of advice at you, backed each other up, added counter points and different angles for you to approach the problem, suggested games, suggested solutions, even broke down the actual cost of it all and still you shoot everything down and cry fowl against the gaming industry for not listening to you, the poor unnoticed platformer/fps gamer (as most single player games are either of these two).

Now you're entitled to your own opinion, but how jaded can you be to not even be interested in more than half the games we've suggested, or not take the time to look into the others you haven't played yet. Kobb's suggestion about making a project out of running the cable through your house through the walls, floor, or just clipping it to the wall would keep the cord out of the way, and be rather cheap if you went with the clips, hell it's a project I'm considering now that I think about it.

I'm also a college student like Kobb, so I know damn well how tight my wallet can get from time to time... Do you work enough hours though? Do you even work? I'm not trying to insult, but rather understand your psyche about this entire thing. Save some money, stop wasting it on new titles, and go buy yourself the hard drive, a live subscription and appreciate the things you have even more, and if you can't bring yourself to do that, then just quit buddy, you're not going to be happy with anything else much less our solutions.
