Oh, and if you absolutely LOVE fanservice (and how many anime fans don't?) then you should watch Girls Bravo.

EDIT: I nearly forgot to mention Queen's Blade! The fellows over on /e/ and /u/ stain their boxers at the mere thought of it.

EDIT SQUARED: I also had a good time with To Love-ru. It takes a bit of getting used to, but then it settles in and is quite entertaining.

EDIT CUBED: Desert Punk is also worth a watch. Lotta good gunfights and tits. No nudity that I'm aware of, though.

PREEMPTIVE EDIT:

I know this has been done before, but I am in need. I have a half-term holiday coming up and need a new anime to watch.

Required fields are:
-no more than 30 episodes
-no annoying anime chicks
-must have good character design
-no furry stuff or ridiculous fan service.
-as little filler as possible
-preferably a follow-up series that I can watch another time.

I am capable of enjoying:
-action
-mecha (as long as it is done well)
-fantasy (likewise)
-sci-fi
-romance (but only if it acts as a sub-plot)

I know I have exacting standards, but I am open to suggestions of animes outside of these guidelines as well.
Okie dokie: This is hard but I think I may have 2 or 3 possibilities ...

1) Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro Chan. There are 2 'series' but only about 20 episodes in total [total, total: I think it's 6 in series 1, 6 in series 2 but, I could be mistaken]. This isn't exactly romance but there are subtle undertones. It is definitely a fantasy. This is a comedy however which wasn't one of your requirements ... Although there is a lot of violence. It's cute and at least worth a look. There are some annoying little girls in this one BUT there is just as much toilet humor which I would think makes up for it!

2) Suzuka. This is a longer series. I think there are 28 episodes. This is a serious romance anime with some comedic elements. It's about a boy who moves to Tokyo to start High School and those annoying pangs that come with crushes, love and, other such things. I liked it: it seemed more real than the harem anime series and wasn't as goofy as say, Love Hina [and far more compact] There are a few annoying female characters but they are drunk women. I liked the art style with this one.

3) Detroit Metal City. This is basically the Japanese answer to Metalocalypse. The series has 12 episodes about a college student who dreams of starting a folk band. Angered by his failure, he turns one of his favorite songs [written by himself] and turns it into a metal song about Murder [Setsugai] which becomes a huge hit on as a single. It doesn't show how the band was formed but, now he must keep his metal alternate life separated from his tradtional life. This one is funny and you can find many of DMC's songs on youtube [such as Slash Killer, Death Penis and of course Setsugai] The only real fan-service I saw hear was aimed at Fist of the North Star fans when Krouser told somebody he was unfashionable: it sounded much like North Star's signature catchphrase. This anime series has a very modern style and looks really good.

4)New Fist of the North Star. This is a remake of Fist of the North Star and is only three episodes long. The original series was shorter than DBZ, Inuyasha, etc but it was still extremely long. This series takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland much like the Capitol Wasteland. This land is inhabited by roaming biker gangs and obscure, though exteremly powerful martial artists. This OVA follows Kenshiro as he tries to save a woman who is able to heal the sick and a young man who seems able to 'make' clean drinking water. Unlike other fighting anime series, Fist of the North Star is known for Kenshiro's fighting style, Hokuto Shinken which uses pressure points to cause his opponents to explode, implode and, even tell the truth against their will under certain circumstances. This is my favorite series in terms of animation and style.

I hope this helps you out a bit but for all I know, you've already seen these.

When you say "no furry stuff" do you mean no catgirls or their non-fuzzy ilk?

Maybe you could try,

Darker than Black (has 2 seasons, female characters being annoying is highly unlikely but not impossible I suppose)
Basically episodic so, its hard to say that it isn't filler, material.
If you like Darker than Black you'd also most likely want to see Samurai Champloo (I personally think Champloo is better) but they both have that episodic nature.

Texnholyze, a dark action anime that has slow build up, there are a few weird things going on at the first 4 episodes but it sets up for the rest of the anime. Not everyone's cup of tea.

Apart from that most people have recommended them already.

Oh hell yes, but its better than Anime in the single fact that it isn't fan service.
Show me a single anime/manga without ANY FAN SERVICE what so ever and I'll read it..
There are a few from japan that translate terribly but are pretty good though.
The only thing I know about fan service is that the girls are big-breasted bisexuals.

I have not seen any of these, you seem to have very similar tastes in anime as I do, I will take some of your suggestions. Thank you very much.

When you say "no furry stuff" do you mean no catgirls or their non-fuzzy ilk?
That's exactly what I mean. I watched one furry anime and found it a bit odd to say the least.

But catgirls are charming and add cuteness to a show. And they are just overall funny.

I disagree, but respect your right to an opinion.

One thing: Could you clarify what you meant by "odd"?

The whole culture just doesn't appeal to me. I'm not taking part in all of the furry-hate that you see on other forums, people can do whatever they want, I just don't see the whole fur-nomenon as that great a thing.

I should be put in a pun-itentiary.

Kino No Tabi(Kino's Journey) kind of fits fantasy and sci-fi.

Essentially it's about a person who journeys through 'countries,' that have interesting things about them. The twist of the story is that they all have a darker side to them that are revealed to the main character.

It has dark humor and only a tiny bit of action.

[small]And a few specific ones will really, really creep you out.[/small]

Other things-
Bakemonogatari (Don't know the episode length)- Interesting, I'll tell you what its about once I figure it out.
DOGS-Action (OAV, 4 episodes)

Hellsing Ultimate: It's and OVA series based on the manga so there's only 7 episodes so far with a new episode only coming out around every six moths or so but it is really amazingly violent and bloody, there is a also a thirteen episode anime based on it but it got ahead of the manga and started diverting from the plot and ended unsatisfactorily

What would you call it then?

Last time I checked, regular people didn't have ears or a tail.

I must sound like an ignorant bastard at the moment.
