Every single person who complains about this game seems to have the same argument. Omg you die after getting shot 3-4 times? Wow really how terrible that the game is realistic.

Seriously you can play this game as a shooter but you have to gain some experience first. I don't see why it's terrible that a guy just returning to work after having nearly his entire body replaced needs to gain some experience and get some upgrades before becoming a legit badass.

I played the first 2/3rds of the game pacifist but I lost my achievement on a certain mission and afterwards I killed plenty of people. If you get the dermal armor and upgrade your hacking you can do amazing things like hacking turrets and then carrying them around like a terminator.

Btw it's ok if people don't like a game but don't go on a message board and say you want to discuss why it's so bad and then lash back at people who don't agree with you. That's just plain silly.

Btw I loved he game. The story was brlliant, the voice acting superb, the music phenomenal, and the gameplay solid. I also loved how you needed to acquire certain augs to go through certain areas. It made it feel like a modern Metroid.

Lastly you can most certainly play this game like a shooter. It just takes patience and upgrading the proper augs. Nearly everyone I've seen who complains about this aspect wants to play the game like COD or Halo. It's not a run and gun game. Also if you install the game(on consoles) or patch it on pc it speeds up the loading times tremendously.

See and I really like Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Now what does it mean? ... Nothing, absolutely nothing...

It might possibly be the fact that you're playing a certain way; Stealth may give more points to silent killings intentionally, since that's the point of stealth. If that's true, then that gripe is your own folly. You even said that certain gameplay styles get more EXP for doing different things, so maybe this is one of those exceptions. Stealth gets more for non-lethal melee.

Other than that, I can't say. I've played no demos, but AI does look retarded from gameplay videos. As for the Parkinson's, there isn't a single character who looks like they don't have a paralyzing disease during in-gameplay speaking. Cutscenes, which I don't think you mentioned, always look and sound much better. Your concerns with control may not apply to me, because if and when I get it, it will be over Steam.

Other than the "choice" problem, you're basically saying exactly what every critic has said before now, so at least what you're saying is all legitimate.
Best example is the black woman after you kill the guy that tried to take her hostage. Firstly, horrible VA'ing, secondly, the thing is all out of whack. Who actually would say they didn't enjoy a game because the lips didn't sync perfectly, though?

Amusing.
And somewhat saddening that anyone took this topic seriously.

Just mark the offender and move on.

So you don't like the game. So what? I don't like FF, but I don't make an entire thread saying what I don't like about it. I just don't play it and if someone asks, I tell them I'm not interested or toss a few jokes its way. To be honest, it just sounds like you are trolling. Maybe it's the grammar or all the "u"'s instead of "you".

I am really enjoying the game. I like that you can't run out a la Rambo and kill everyone in a room. Doing that should get you killed. Admittedly the stealth takedowns are a little easy to get away with, but that's about it.

Playing this as a proper stealth, never get seen by anyone, set off no alarms, and don't kill anyone is pretty hard. That's how it should be.

Haha he raises legitimate concerns, and this game is a touch more linear than the first as well.

I agree about the frustration of toggled iron sights (that become irrelevant with laser) and not being able to toggle iron sights quickly from behind cover.

Jensen still has a (mostly) human torso and head so I disagree about instagib if you don't use cover. I feel like I'd get instagibbed with a few pistol shots if I waltzed across a hallway in front of a turret as well.

Most frustrating, and I couldn't agree with the poster more, is the experience awarding system. The face that I get almost twice as much experience for not being spotted once completely punishes the people who wanna play this game full assault style annoys the crap outta me. If you have the balls to beat this game on the hardest difficulty, combat only, you deserve to be rewarded for the effort.

Making a multiple-approach game that punishes you if you use one of those approaches doesn't make any sense to me...

All in all, legitimate criticisms. But I definitely won't go as far as to say I hate the game. Quite the opposite.

Okay, from what i have played so far i am not very impressed.

For starters this game claims that you can "play it how you want." Well that couldn't be farther from the truth. This is a stealth game plain and simple; you just get to choose whether it is a game where u shoot people that know your around there somewhere, shoot people that have no idea your there, or u can choose to not kill people but instead put them into a magical coma with your non lethal pistol/tazer and tranq rifle. But what you cannot do under any circumstance is stand up and stop using their stupid ass fucking cover system, more on that later, because u will die instantly.
This falls under the false assumption that just because a game allows multiple plays styles means that it should necessarily have equal out comes. The point isn't what it lets you do, it's what it doesn't stop you from doing.

The game doesn't stop you from a straight fight, as I have played through the game using practically nothing but brute force. I don't think it's fair to complain about a game not letting you "stand up and fight." The argument is akin to complaining about how you can't survive in a desert without water. It's true, but it means that you should probably just not go to the desert if you don't want to bring water.

but u know what i dont give a frak if the game doesn't want to give me choice as long as the gameplay im pigeonholed into is good. I actually LIKE stealth games. The splinter cell games are great fun. I love metal Gear Solid. I've played every single Bethesda game as a sneak character, ive played 3 SOCOM games, i played stalker like a kneay ghost dishing out Ukranian justice and honestly u could list a trillion more examples; basically stealth games are my shit. So i start this game with the intention of playing it how they want me to and after about an hour or so i realize how freaking dumb the AI is and how stupid the EXP distribution is.
Again, the whole appeal of Deus Ex is that it doesn't pigeonhole the player. You may think that it does, but if I were to agree with the premise, I'd have to throw out hours and hours worth of experience I've had with it.

lets start with the "AI" and all the wonderful intelligence they have been blessed with. basically every single enemy i have come across has one single set path where they walk between one or 2 points, stopping occasionally. They never deviate at all or have any sort of realistic rhyme or reason to how they are moving. They cant seem to see anything u do except for randomly every once and a while when they are nowhere near u. They can hear up to about 3 feet away from themselves. unless u dare try to kill someone with a melee attack. Heaven forbid u harm a human being(but we will get back to that) Basically if u are crouching and u arent directly in front of someone u could follow them around their entire patrol route without them noticing. 2 people are in a room less than 10 feet from each other. No problem just melee on then walk over and melee the other. Stealth AI is notoriously bad but this is just a joke.
On the topic of the AI. It is "bad" in that it isn't something normal people would do. However, it works well within the context of the game because it allows the player to use understandable logic internal to the game rather than having to do trial and error over and over. If it this isn't your cup of tea, I understand, but I wouldn't say that it's an intrinsically bad decision.

but i guess the thing that pisses me off most of all, is that certain gameplay types actually get more experience than others.u get MORE experience for not killing someone(remember the magical coma). and u get loads more experience for meleeing someone but make sure u do a nonlethal melee attack because ure character has to kill people in the noises way possible. because u know getting stabbed is way noisier than getting the shit beaten out of you. This makes no sense.
Again, this isn't a bad thing. It rewards players for patience, but allows people who aren't patient to simply fight on. Any other system would have screwed over either the patient player by making intelligent play useless, or would have made it impossible to use a direct approach.

and the controls are just freaking awful. U have no choice but to use toggle iron sights, when u stick to cover u cant peek with the iron sight button but u have to move to the edge. the melee button and cover change button do different things depending on if u hold or tap them/ The sprint is a joke. most of the upgrades are pointless and feel like they should have been unlocked from the beginning.
I wasn't aware that this was bad thing. While it's a valid reason for you to dislike the game if it doesn't work for you, it isn't anything intrinsically wrong with the game.

Oh and the voice acting is shitty but u cant tell because the idle animations during conversations look like the character has parkinsons 50 percent of the time.
Yeah, the voice acting isn't deus ex's strong suit, but since this provided so good many memories [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kihGm4KfY7k] in the past, I invoke the grandfather clause.

The music and art are nice tho. I guess that is a plus. So ya someone please tell me what im doing wrong or why I'm wrong.
You have every right to dislike the game, but I don't think it's necessarily because the game was bad by design.

U kno I find it really annoying when people consistently use u as supposed to you in sentences and r ramdomly not using full words at all in places becus thy **** spill (cant spell). It makes it really hard to read and agree with anything they say. Its like the literary equivalent of hearing somebody talking with a blocked nose.

Wow, I've played through it once so far using an adaptive character, some rooms I shot everyone in a run 'n' gun situation, other rooms I snuk around without anyone so much as becoming alarmed. As far as I'm concerned, this is the best game I've ever played.
One thing I feel forced to ask though is this: Have you played previous Deus Ex games? They warranted sneaking even more due to the lack of a cover system.

i played it for a good 7 or so hours. But whenever i go to do anything combat or stealth related i just feel like splinter cell conviction did it better.
saying that though is like saying Metal Gear Solid did it better than splinter cell (which is true)but they do not compare really because they play sooo differently you should be used to naff AI if you played splinter games.

I found a great deal of choice in the game comparative to most shooters.
Though I only really noted that there was choice when discussing how to get through a level with my brother.
Best EGs of this:
#1 The police station - He talked his way in a got to walk around all detective like in peace
I hacked into the basement and started shoving unconscious cops into ventilation shafts to mask my presence

#2 The end of the china mission when the room fills up with 30-ish guys
-He blew up the hole room killing everyone with typhoon
- I got really nervous about not being in formal atire and snuck out the vents without being seen.
Result of that one - he had to fight his way through more guards in the next room, I just had to run over the a computer and shut off the robots

#3 Montreal
- He stealthily shot people in the head with a silenced pistol to avoid detection
- I conscripted all manners of machine and walked down the hallway carrying a turret I'd turned friendly which was kind enough to do most of the work for me so I could read people emails being that everyone was polite enough to die off screen.

I don't like the boss-battles being primary gun focused. The occasional and unrealistic things like not-too-great-ai and a lot of people on the street having the same line is awkward in a game that on other fonts tries to be so immerse.

Other than that I'm having fun atm.

Wow ... for the first time in months I actually love a game so much, and then someone goes off and goes criticizing it. Yes, I know it's the internet and free speech and all that crap, but still! I don't like Half Life and I can write 2 pages about that but all I would do is piss people off.

(Didn't read past the first page)

All I can say is if you're going to go through this game like a shooter, you need to do it intelligently. Enter an area, assess the threats and your inventory, come up with a plan and execute. It's more than viable to go through the game killing everything in sight, you just need to be intelligent about it.

This game isn't so much a stealth game as it is a game about being CAREFUL. Think about it. You're ONE guy, who used to be a police/SWAT officer then got his ass handed to him a couple of months into his new job as a security specialist. Now, by no means am I saying SWAT teams don't train their men hard, but Jensen isn't exactly Johnny Green Beret over here. Hell, the original game had you as a nano-augmented super agent, and you could die very, very easily. Deus Ex has always been about choosing your role, then beefing yourself up that way. If you like killing everyone, horde pistol and combat rifle ammo and upgrades and get augmentations like Dermal Armor, Smart Vision and Inventory Expansion. I'm a "Commando" (use stealth to isolate and destroy enemies silently) type most of the time, but I have the full inventory unlocked so I can stockpile gear and ammo for every conceivable situation just in case.

Deus Ex is all about preparedness and careful planning, at least whenever I've played it. Just have some patience and make the battles work on your terms. Hope this helps change your mind so you can enjoy the game, OP.

the combat thing also frustrates me, I went in expecting to play as a badass that can go in and beat the crap out of everyone, but no I am a semi stealthy guy who uses a silent armour piercing pistol over all other weapons as it can 1 shot everything.

Also the game almost requires you to upgrade your hacking if you want to complete any of the side missions.
