If you had a son, what would you name him?

James.

Nice strong name, flexible too, and no one will ever ask how to spell it. Plus he'll be grateful when his girlfriend/wife ever says "ooooh, James".

Also my middle name. I'd give his Middle name as Alastair, after my father's first name.

I plan on naming my son Jareth after the Goblin King in Labyrinth, the only people who would know he is named after that would be people that have seen the movie religiously.

The very first thing I thought, bizarrely, was Tiberius. Nothing should really have provoked that instinctive response, but that's what avalanched upon my thoughts when I read the question.

I probably wouldn't, but I suppose it does sound quite good, nicknames easily, difficult to make a joke out of (unless you consider the name itself to be the joke, which idiots at his school will do). Yeah how about that.

Oh wait, I remember why it jumped into my brain. He was the emperor of Rome when Jesus was sent before Pontious Pilate. I read it a couple of days ago on Wikipedia. Odd mechanisms my brain has. He was quite a complex and more interesting Roman Emperor if that helps. Quite a reluctant emperor, but a very able general. His reign ended quite abysmally sadly, in part due to the death of his son.

Anyhow, I'd be as indecisive as you ultimately, so I'm sorry I can't be of much help. I might choose something from the Lord of the Rings, that isn't too abstract and is easy to spell, but not related to the films so much as to elicit ridicule (Frodo being an obvious example).

Only maybe though, since those requirements are a bit steep to meet and have any significance. They're all hard to nickname too, not that that's a necessity.

Edit: Samuel, in honour of Terry Pratchett and Samuel Vimes. This appeals me ^_^

If your last name is Rodríguez; Bender Bending.

I have a thing for the name Eugene though, I think it's pretty.
I have a thing for Eugene too... I hate it. Ofcourse its my middle name so i am kinda stuck with it.

OT:
I dont actualy have any good sugestions for a name but i do have a suggestion for helping pick a name. See if it rhymes with something insulting like a swear word. if it does cross the name off the list. dont pick a strange or extravagant name such as Lucian.

when it comes to boys, in my family we name the firstborn boy after his grandfather. you could try that. or, if you're of a culture that chooses a godfather or sponsor for the baby, name him after that person.

as for names i just like, i'd go for domovoi or cameron.

Harlan. It's both a family name, and the name of a sci fi author I like. Plus my last name has an H, so it has alliteration to it.
