you know i could go all fanboy OP and say...
Infantry: space marines (or chaos marines they both work)
Vehicle: Tau Hammerheads (with railguns)
Air: TIE Defenders
Uber: Warlord Titans (or whatever the biggest ones are cause i cant quite remember but i think its Warlords)
Hero: The God Emperor of Mankind

going none OP
Infantry: military trained PMC operatives army of two style
Vehicle: custom heavy APC's
Air: custom gunships heavyily armed and armoured
Uber: battlesuits similar to the Tau XV8 but less high tech (so minus jet packs and stuck with current day weapons)
Hero: they dont really have one... but lets say either a standard foot soldier but with better training and superior equipment and is just generally better with several unique skills or a more advanced battlesuit so better armour, bigger guns and better mobility

I believe Imperator Titans are the biggest.

I have to think on what my army would be.... I'll get back to y'all.

Infantry: Soldiers with no facial features in typical US combat gear who use RPG-7s. RPG-7s can be upgraded to have longer range and homing capabilities. They may also be upgraded to do martyrdom.

Vehicles: rocket shooting mechas that move by tank threads and shoot tons of rockets. The rockets can be upgraded to guass cannons and the threads upgraded to anti-gravity levitation.

Air: The missile men! (my avatar is a pic of one) They can be upgraded to wield SMGs instead of those little lasers. Can be upgraded to be more resistant and has a bigger on death explosion and faster speed.

Hero: A muscle man like the one seem on a oscar meyer that has dual 4 barreled rocket launchers that home in on targets. Has the super ability to shoot a anti-matter rocket when leveled up enough. Earlier levels give him the ability to absorb 'tank' damage, have high knock back melee attacks and get rapid fire rocket salvos.

Guess what my favorite weapon type is.

Infantry: Armored soldiers, coming in 3 types: Heavy, Medium, and Light. Heavy wields a minigun with an RPG attachment, but is slow as hell, making him unsuited for quick guerrilla strikes and better suited for defense and big offensives. Medium wields an assault rifle and grenades, and is fairly fast, making him suitable for quicker fire support for a Heavy, as well as many other uses, him being the most versatile, overall. Light is essentially a sniper unit, capable of moving quickly and hitting things from afar, with a handgun as a backup for closer-ranged combat.

Vehicle: M1A2 Abrams [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_Abrams] and its variants.

Air: I think F-302's [http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/F-302] should suffice.

Uber: This [http://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/00_Qan%28T%29] godly beast.

Hero: Commander Shepard. Because no matter what scars you bear, whatever uniform you wear, you can fight like a Krogan, run like a Leopard, but you'll never be better than Commander Shepard. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/miracle-of-sound/3158-Commander-Shepard]

wouldn't Heavy Arms Custom have been better? its got twice as many gating guns, + 2 machine cannons on its shoulders, and WAY more missiles ( X2 per leg, 2 smaller ones on the hips and 3 bays per shoulder)

OT:
Infantry
MS-06F 'Zaku II': basic starter infantry suits, dose everything the upgraded units would do, but cheaper to get out, but weaker

MMS-01 'Serpent': the upgrade
its got 2 shoulder mounted missile pods as fixed weaponry, and optional high output Beam Cannon, Double Gatling gun and Bazooka. it's armor is made of Neo Titanium, which is a step below the alloy used for 'Gundam' class MS

Special:(aka UBER types)
MS-18E 'Kamper': Low cost heavy assault unit, capable of soking more damage then a Serpent as well as dishing out more damage, weakest of the ground type specials
GATX-x131 'Calamity': Gundam class MS,capable of dishing out tons of damage, able to take down entire lines by it self
XXXG-01HS 'Heavy Arms Kai (Endless Waltz version): top tier ground type special much higher DPS then the Calamity

Air Forces
OZ-07AMS 'Aries': basic flight unit, weaker then the DINN, and armed only with missile pods and a machine gun

AMF-101 'DINN': the upgraded flight type mobile suit, thinner skinned then the Serpent but still well armed and maneuverable. fixed weapons consist of a chest mount multi purpose launcher system. while optional weapons consist of an 190MM anti-aircraft shot gun, and a 76MM heavy machine gun

Specials:(even MORE Uber)
MSZ-006 'Zeta': low cost air type special more durable then a DINN with more fire power
XXX-01W 'Wing Gundam': high burst damage, high damage to hard targets like carriers and main buildings
FA-010S 'Full Armor ZZ':top tier air type, DPS/Burst damage,

Amphibious
MSM-07 'Z'Gok': a 'submarine' like MS, weapons are all fixed, the claws, for anti-ship maneuvers, to the 6 head mounted 240MM missile/torpedo tubes and the arm mounted Particle Beam cannons. armor is thicker then the DINNs by necessity due to water presure

Vehicles these would very, depending on terrain, from aircraft carries, to submarines, to large scale aerial transports, to 'aircraft carries on land'

Special Units(Chuck Norris in robot form)
units listed here are 'All Atmosphere' types, and as such are superior to all others (limit 2)
ZGMF-X10A 'Freedom': highest DPS damage
XXXG-00W0 'Wing Zero': extremely high burst damage, can obliterate even the 'hardest' targets with ease
MSN-04 'Sazabi': mixed burst/DPS damage, equipped with 6 funnels that attack independently

Hero Unit selected from ground or air type Specials at the start of the campaign.

Infantry: The Jägers from Girl Genius. All the fighting spirit of Space Orks, but with better accents and a love of fancy hats.
Vehicle: Space Ork Trukks. Ramshackle open topped vehicles that go crazy fast and are held together only by the collective will of those riding in it. The red ones go faster.
Air: Goblin guided rocks. They're only capable of short distance travel and the pilot doesn't have very much say in where it lands. Also has a 50% chance of killing the pilot.
Uber: The RX-3 It's all flash and no substance. It adds +12 to the rest of my army's stealth checks as a result.
Hero: The Doctor. Doesn't matter what the circumstance is, his plot armor is impregnable. Enemy units have a 1/3 chance of just giving up after he declares who he is.

Ah, but from my point of view, Heavy Arms Custom has reached a point where it is actually impractile. (great, I am debating the practicality of a 40 foot tall robot made of metal that doesnt exist. I have offically gone nuts.)

I mean, Just look at this thing:

Do I NEED that much firepower when I am going up against an army of tanks and foot soldiers, when I could get the job done just as well with less guns because my unit has higher mobility to dodge enemy fire, and still have MORE than enough firepower. Plus, It seems like it would be weighted down by the...um weight of all the guns, rocket launchers, and all the ammo for the guns. I know that my tank was the Mammoth Tank, but I still like to maintain SOME degree of mobility to my army. I usually go, Med Speed, Med Firepower, Heavy Armor.

Excellent thread...

Infantry: Fast-moving berserkers armed with hatchets, revolvers, and grenades. Have the ability to enter a berserk fury, slashing away anything in their path. Very good shocktroopers.

Vehicle: Sleek, fast-moving nuclear tank. It has a 130 mm cannon with high explosive, armour-piercing, and nerve gas rounds; a flamethrower; and dual chainguns. The epitome of fasty aggression.

Air: VTOL jet bombers, with both lethal cruise missiles and anti-air capabilities.

Naval: Destroyer-sized warships, with versatility as the primary focus.

Transport: Heavily armoured APCs, pretty much. Want to get to the battlefield in one piece.

Uber: A titan, the height of the empire state building. The very ground cracks under its weight. Has very lethal melee destructive power, and anti-air defences up its entire body, but more frightening still is the death ray which shoots from its mouth, capable of penetrating armour and bunkers with focused nuclear energy.

Hero: The angel of death... with a jetpack, a power sword, and a portable railgun, none can stand in his way.

Infantry: Squigs (the best things ever to be created in the Warhammer universe)
Vehicle: Voltron Lions
Air: X-Wings
Uber: Voltron
Hero: Serious Sam

(mass effect is probably the least interesting and most boring sci-fi universe I've ever experienced in my entire life. I feel sorry for you people that think 'LULZ FEMSHEP AND KROGANS' are the coolest thing ever. I feel for ya, I really do.)

do you need that much fire power?

-.- what a silly question, to answer i shall quot the experts

MOAR DAKKA!!! - 40k Orks

there is never such a think as to much fire power, and 'overkill' is a phrase utter by sissy's, there is only, 'I'm firing' and 'i need to reload'.

least that's my thoughts on it
